III. Learning Procedures

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Routinary Activities
a) Prayer
It’s wonderful morning isn’t it? Before
we start our day, I want you to keep
stand up and do whatever I am going to
do, did you understand? Yes, Sir!
Harold kindly lead the prayer. (Harold says a short prayer)

b) Greetings
Good morning wonderful and amazing
People! How was your day? That is
good to hear. Good morning, Sir!
c) Classroom Management
Before you sit, kindly pick up a piece
of waste under, above, front, below, (Student follow)
and back of your chairs. In the count
of 5,4,3,2,1.

Listen to our lesson attentively and

participate actively. Yes, Sir!

d) Checking of Attendance
How is everyone? How is your
midterm exam? We are doing good, and get a good score,
Sir!

(I can give them a little advice)

Secretary, who is absent today? Good Morning Sir, I’m proud to inform you
that no one is absent today.

That is great!

e) Checking of Assignment
I remember that I gave you an
assignment last meeting. Did you
bring your assignment? Yes, Sir!
Kindly pass your assignment in
front. In the count of 5,4,3,2,1
f) Recall
It seems that all of you have an
assignments, meaning you have
your answers, right? And if you
have answers, means you
understand our discussion last
meeting. What we have discussed
last meeting? (Student raise their hands)
It is about Solving Polynomial using Long
Division.
Very good! It is about Solving
Polynomial using Long Division.

So What are the steps to solve (Student raise their hands)

polynomial using Long Division? Divide, Multiply, Subtract and Bring down
then repeat.
Let us have an example
x³ + 6x² + 10x + 3 / x + 3

Anyone who wants to solve our

problem? (Student raise their hands)
(Student solve the problem and explain to
the class)
B. Motivation
But before we proceed to our next
topic, let us have an activity first
and this activity called “Polynomial
Race.”

The challenge is to solve this

polynomial division problem using
long division as quickly and
accurately as possible and I am
going to divide the class into four
groups and give you an envelope.
Inside the envelope is a polynomial
problem that you need to solve
using long division as quick as you
can. I will give you 3 minutes to
solve the problem. Each group
need to raise their hands if they
solved the problem and the last
group that solved the problem will
do a dance and this dance called
“Ice cream yummy dance.” And
from that group I want you to
choose 1 representative from your
group to solve the problem on the
whiteboard and answer my
questions. Understand? Yes, Sir!

Alright, let us begin! You may start

now! (Student will answer the problem as quick
as they can)

Now, we have here the last group to

do the dance, solve the problem and
answer my questions.

What did you notice about the steps

in long division? (Student answer the question)
Was it quick, or did it take some
time to organize everything? (Student answer the question)

C. Lesson Proper
Great job, everyone! Now that we
have solve this problem using long
division, let me ask you a question:
If we had to solve a whole series of
these problems in a short period of
time, would it be better to keep
using long division.. or do you think
there might be a faster way? Yes Sir, there might be a faster way.

This brings us to today’s topic and

our topic will be Synthetic Division
of Polynomials. Anyone who knows
the Synthetic Division? No, Sir

None?

If that is the case let us have an

example.
1. 2x³ + 5x² + 9 / x + 3

Do you understand? Yes, Sir!

Let us have another example.

2. 2x³ - 5x² + 3x + 7 / x-2

Alright! Do you understand it now

how to solve polynomials using
Synthetic Division? Yes, Sir!

If that so..

Let us a another example, but this

time I want you to volunteer to
answer this example.

3. 3x³ + 5x - 1 / x+1

Anyone who wants to solve this

problem? (Student raises hand)
Explain your answer.

Good job, did everyone get the

same answer?

Do you already know how to solve

polynomials using Synthetic
Division?

Very good! Let us have a group

activity.

D. Enrichment Activities
Since you already know how to
solve synthetic division of
polynomial, Let us have a group
activity. The instruction of our
activity is each group will solve a
series of synthetic division problems Yes, Sir!
to unlock a phrase. Understand?

I am going to divide the class

into four groups and I will provide an
envelope. Inside the envelope is the
problems that you need to solve that
corresponds to part of the phrase or
key. For each correct answer, you
will receive a clue that will complete
your phrase and if you already done
to solve all the problems, I want you Yes, Sir!
to shout what is the phrase that you
got. Understand?

Before we start, again, what are (Students answer the question)

the steps of solving polynomials
using synthetic division?

Alright! I will give you 5 minutes

to solve all of that. You may start
now!
Time is up! “PA- DA- YON”, Sir!

What phrase did you get? To continue or move forward, Sir!

What is the meaning of that? Why, Sir?

Do you know why I choose the
word“PADAYON”?

I choose the word “PADAYON”

because I want you to continue your
journey even though sometimes we
struggle. I want you to continue your
dreams to become a good teacher
someday. Again say it, PADAYON!

Alright! Very good, Class! That is the

end of our group activity.

E. Generalization
Alright! Did everyone understand our
topic Synthetic Division? Yes, Sir!

Well, prove it then. Why is synthetic

division important? Synthetic division is useful to divide
polynomials in an easy and simple way as it
breaks down complex equations into
smaller and easier equations.

Very good! What are the steps to get

the quotient of the Synthetic
Division of Polynomial? Step 1: Set the denominator = zero to find
the number to put in the division box.
Then you need to set the numerator into
descending order and if any terms are
missing we need to use a zero to fill in the
missing term.
At last, list all the possible coefficient in the
division problem.
Step 2: Find the leading coefficient and
bring it down

Step 3: multiply the number in the division

box with the number you brought down.

Step 4: Write the result at the bottom of the

row by adding the two numbers together
until you reach the end of the problem.

Step 5: Write the final answer.

The numbers in the bottom row with the last
number being the remainder and the
remainder which is written as a fraction
makes the final answer.

I. Evaluation
Are there any questions? Any
clarifications? No, Sir!

If that is the case, let us have a quiz.

Bring out 1/2 crosswise yellow pad
and solve this following problem
using Synthetic Division.

1. 4x³ + 3x² - 5x + 6 / (x - 2)
2. 2x³ + 4x² -5x + 2 / (x + 1)

II. Assignment

Alright class! I will be giving you an

Assignment for you to practice what
we have learned today.

Instruction: Answer the following

polynomial problem using Synthetic
Division.

1. 4x³ - 8x² - x + 5 / 2x - 1
2. x³ - 5x² + 3x + 7 / x - 3

That is it for today class. I hope you

leaned something. See you next
meeting. Goodbye! Goodbye and thank you, Sir!
