TECHNOLOGY LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT TESTING SCRIPT
1. Overview
The purpose of this document is to provide the Beta Test Team with a testing script and
related use case functions to perform on the Technology Life Cycle Management site.
The results of these tests will provide the basis for changes and improvements to the site.
The site testing script presents the Beta Test Team with a series of test situations which
will fully test the functionality of the site. After the performance of each test situation, the
Beta Test Team will evaluate the system using the Script and Use Case Evaluations
section of the document. Each use case within the script is evaluated and a comment
area is provided for explanations of use cases that need work. After all of the site scripts
are tested and evaluated, a Beta Test Team representative and the developer will review
the evaluations to see where improvements or changes can be made.
The testing script will provide a realistic test of the performance of the site. Two sample
technologies will be introduced and one tracked from Evaluation to Elimination, the other
will be Abandoned. Beta Test Team users will take on different roles (actors) in order to
test how the site distinguishes between the various actors and their access rights.
Each paragraph under the Script section is performed by either a single user or by all
members of a group. Within the paragraph, actions are described and followed by the
related Use Case number. Users should refer to the Use Case Analysis document to
compare the stated description of the function and the actual function performed. Any
discrepancy should be reported. All Beta Test Team members should read all scripts
whether or not they are the primary actors.
1.2 Conventions
As this document is developed, items will be identified that need attention in one way or
another by one or more of the parties involved in this endeavor. We have developed a set
of conventions for calling out these items to ensure easy identification. The following
examples highlight the types of items that we would like to call attention to:

Use Case 27: Display a chart that shows years as the x-axis and the
technologies listed on the y-axis with stacked horizontal bars indicating the life
cycle phase that the technology was in.
Use Case 28: Export the data to Excel.
Use Case 31: Provide a link to view any Requests a user has submitted that
have not been completed or declined. (None should appear. Do not submit any
Requests at this time unless instructed in the script.)
These Use Cases should be tested several times throughout the rest of the test script,
and not always in the same order. Try bookmarking the URL, logging out, and then
selecting the bookmark from your Favorites. You should be taken to the login page.
Aaron Brown will submit a proposal for a new technology, WinAce, version 2.5, category
of “Utility” with no components, and a description of “File compression utility.” Leave the
other fields blank and click on the Submit button (Use Case 29). After submitting the form,
fill out all of the Technology Proposal Form fields with some information (each field should
have some unique information that can be used later for searching), enter a start date of
10/1/2004 and projected end date of 6/1/2005, leave the radio button default at “Pending”
selected. Click on the Submit button. (Use Case 30).
This process creates a new technology, WinAce, which the Beta Test Team will use
throughout the rest of the testing protocol. Aaron Brown is the Tech Champion for the
technology. An email acknowledgement is sent to Aaron Brown to verify that he was the
person who submitted the form. Every night at 12:35AM the Technology Life Cycle Form
