Operations is one of the major functions in an organisation along with supply chains,
marketing, finance, and human resources. The operations function requires
management of both the strategic and day-to-day production of goods and services.

Operations managers are responsible for managing all company operations and
processes, including process design, improvement, and optimisation; quality
management; process; and strategic decision-making. Additionally, they are required to
have a specific skillset that includes organisation, communication, and strategic
thinking abilities.
A contemporary programme in Operations Management will help you learn about the
role of operations and how they are connected to other business functions in
manufacturing and service-focused organisations. It will help you relate underlying
principles to operations management frameworks and techniques; process
information to make decisions; and apply analytical techniques for tactical operations
decisions.

Participants are expected to take up projects in areas of operations management related to their
companies.
Pedagogy
The programme will be taught through a unique blend of diverse pedagogical tools
such as case studies, industry examples, and analytical tools.
Programme Delivery
Sessions will be conducted via a state-of-the-art Interactive Learning (IL) platform and
delivered in Direct-to-Device (D2D) mode that can be accessed by learners on their
Desktop, Laptop, Tablet, or Smartphone. Participants will be provided reading
materials, etc., for each course. They may also interact with the concerned faculty
through e-mails/chat mode.
Face-to-face sessions will be conducted during the campus immersion at IIM Calcutta
campus. Campus modules will remain compulsory for all.
Medium of instruction for the programme is English.

Campus Immersion
There will be two campus visits of FOUR days and THREE days, which will be scheduled
in the middle or at the end of the programme.
It is mandatory for participants to attend the campus visit for successful completion
of the programme. The campus visit will be conducted subject to the evolving
pandemic situation and will depend on government and institute regulations,
advisories, and guidelines related to the pandemic. In case the campus module is not
confirmed due to any reason, the same will be included in the total number of online
sessions.
Who Should Attend?
• This programme is specially designed for managers who plan to further their careers
in both service and manufacturing organisations. Executives working in the below
functional domains too will find the programme both challenging and stimulating.
• Working professionals with at least three years of work experience in an Operations
Management role (manufacturing, design, procurement, production, logistics, sales
and distribution, service delivery, and programme or project management).
• Working professionals functioning in strategic activities like network optimisation,
supply chain design, process technology management, innovation management,
designing improvement programmes, and product/process configuration.
Eligibility Criteria
• Bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 or equivalent) or Diploma holders (10+2+3) or Master’s
degree or equivalent from institutions or universities recognised by UGC/AICTE/AIU/DEB
• Minimum 50% aggregate marks of all years in either Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
or its equivalent
• Participants with less than 50% marks in graduation but 50% or more in
post-graduation are also eligible
• Candidates should be working and should have a minimum of THREE years of work
experience* post completion of qualifying education
• Final selection will be done by IIM Calcutta
*Internships and training experiences will not be considered in full time work-experience.
Admission Criteria
• The selection will be based on the candidate’s
overall profile evaluation, subject to meeting
eligibility criteria.
• Candidates will have to submit an SOP
(Statement of Purpose) while applying, along
with other relevant documents.
Attendance Criteria
A minimum of 75% attendance is a prerequisite
for the successful completion of the programme.
Participants with less than 75% of attendance will
not be permitted to appear for the exams.
Assessment & Evaluation
Continuous evaluation components consists of class participation, case discussions,
assignments, quiz, project presentations and final examination. Examination
Evaluation shall be conducted by IIM Calcutta. Evaluation will be held for individual
modules, but not for modules that are held on campus.
For modules that are evaluated, participants will be given any one of the following
grades: “Excellent”, “Good”, “Fair” and “Poor”. Candidates will successfully complete the
programme if they have met the attendance criteria and received 'poor' grades in not
more than two courses.

Programme Directors
A doctorate from Cranfield University, Prof. Partha Priya
Dutta teaches Supply Chain Management and Operations
Management at IIM Calcutta. He was awarded the James
Cooper Memorial Cup 2007 for the best Ph.D. in Supply
Chain by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and
Transport, UK. His research interests lie in intelligent
supply chains, supply chain resilience, operations strategy,
etc.
