Language Learning

By "Language", we mean that it is a system of communication in speech and


writing that is used by people of particular country. In this sense, there is no country
in the world that does not a have a language.
There are over 190 countries in the world today and most of nations have more
than one ethnic group. So, there are a lot of languages used by different people in
the world. One of the languages, I think English language and Chinese language are
the most useful in the world. In Myanmar, English language is the most useful.
I know that there are 4 skills in English, Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Languages have 4 skills. Each skill needs to be learned and practised to become
holistically promotion. Listen to English speech if you really want to have a good
English level. Then, there is no doubt that listening is very important.
Listening is the most common communication activity in our daily life. The
communication time spend on listening is greater than any other skills. Listening is
the primary channel for language input and it plays a basic role in second and
foreign language teaching instruction. Listening activities can be done without a
cassette, recorder as the teachers themselves can be a resource.
If I do spelling and dictation exercises, I will improve listening skill.
Students' speaking skill can be developed by using mixed activities such as
dialogues conversations, songs and poems. The teacher's clear voice and correct
pronunciation is very important because students repeat exactly what they hear.
Through constant revision and recycling of words and structures, student's speaking
can improve together with better pronunciation and other language skills.
But I am weak in the speaking and listening skills. As you know, in this age of
globalization, we have to communicate with people from every part of the world and
the best language to communicate with each other. I think, English as it has become
an international language.
Reading themselves knowing the meaning of individual words as well as the
meaning conveyed by sentences made up the words. Reading aloud is done mainly
to develop the student's activity to read with correct pronunciation, stress, rhythm
and intonation.
The students listen to the teacher's model reading, paying attention to his/her
pronunciation, especially that of new words. At the same time, they mark each
pause within a sentence with a single slant line (I) and the pause at the end of the
sentence with double slant lines (II). Now, I am improving at reading skill.
Writing is a basic skill because students who learn a foreign language need to
know how to express what they want to say in the written form. There are two levels
of proficiency in writing, the sentence level and the paragraph level.
So, I should do to have a good command of English. They say that to be
proficient in English, one must be good at learning the four skills, listening,
speaking, reading and writing.
