- Let’s proceed to the next slide to further explain what is brain-based education. 2nd Slide WHAT IS BRAIN-BASED LEARNING ✓ Basically, it refers to teaching method, lesson design, and school programs. What are these? An example of teaching methods is teacher-centered instruction in which the teacher manages and supervise all activities. ✓ Sa lesson design or lesson plan naman ay nakakatulong sa mga guro ate estudyante para maintindhan ang goal of an instructional module. ✓ And I believe we can all agree on what the school program is. With various educational programs, such as interest clubs, music, the arts just like BAGLIS here in SPAMAST ✓ Brain-based learning focuses on how the brain functions. When a teacher is aware of how the brain functions, they are more capable of helping their students. The teacher can assist the students in narrowing their focus, which will improve their ability to retain information. ✓ It's not a one-size-fits-all approach since each student is unique and has a unique manner of learning concepts. As a result, not every student in a class performs at the same level academically, behaviorally, and socially. For various students, certain brain-based learning exercises are more effective. We all learn best in our own distinct ways, so it might not work for you if you like studying without music because it can be a distraction for you. For me, personally, I love studying with classical music playing in the background because it helps me focus. ✓ Yes, it has various form of learning strategies and we’ll discuss that later in the next slides. Brain-based learning focuses on how the brain functions. When a teacher is aware of how the brain functions, they are more capable of helping their students. The teacher can assist the students in narrowing their focus, which will improve their ability to retain information. 3rd Slide BRAIN-BASED LEARNING PRINCIPLES ✓ Next is the brain-based learning principles. ✓ This means that healthy nutrition, exercise, and both mental and physical activity support the brain's reliable functioning. Hence, a healthy body encourages a healthy mind. ✓ A student who is happy can better organize their thoughts than one who is not. However we are unable to judge those unhappy students since we are unaware of their lives outside of school. Positive outlook for the students helps to increase their self-esteem in the classroom and keeps the learner engaged throughout the whole class period. ✓ The learner's brain develops better when they engage in group activities and interact with or teach their classmates. Brainstorming works best if the student is cooperating with their group mates. ✓ Practice makes memory better. It is more effective to learn through making mistakes than to learn everything at once. ✓ Catching your students’ attention through humor, movement or games stimulate their brain’s emotional center. As a result, students are more likely to participate and process new information quickly. ✓ A learner who is stress-free can study better. Burnout, pressure, procrastination, and an unproductive schedule may all be caused by high levels of stress in the brain. Performance is therefore impacted by these. So, we have to remember that we aren’t robots, and we get tired also, and it’s important that students must take a physical and mental breaks. There are more chances of student engagement and increased performance if the learner feels supported and encouraged when they communicate their ideas and opinions. ✓ We are giving the students a chance to let them to discuss what they’ve learn in their own words and helps them express their ideas to their classmates. ✓ A lot of people are visual learners who learn best if they see a visual representation regarding the lesson. For example, grade school or kindergarten students. We all know that they easily recognize things if we show them colorful and interesting visual representations. ✓ It has been proved that chunking, or breaking up challenging ideas into simpler parts, helps students identify key words and phrases, and understand the text in their own words. For example, (945 2061 067) But if we chunk these number into simpler parts, it’s easier to remember them. ✓ Brain breaks are necessary and this is the best way to get your students up and moving. As we all know, we get bored in a long hour of class session, so doing some movement into the day can help. 5th Slide BRAIN-BASED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ✓ We would be able to tell right away if we walked into a classroom where brain- based learning has been implemented. Optimism and enthusiasm should be evident in the classroom because they make students feel more at ease, and at ease people are more willing to boldly express their thoughts and develop their self-esteem. ✓ To lighten the mood, lighting should be natural and not too dim, and the music should be both relaxing and stimulating. ✓ Giving students opportunities for problem-solving and group projects can get them moving and enable them to brainstorm ideas with their peers, which is an efficient means of gaining knowledge. ✓ As I have mentioned earlier, grade school and kindergarten students respond most to colorful handouts and posters, which are also an efficient approach to boost their memory by having them visualize and evaluate the visuals presented.
