B. Establishing a
purpose for the Imagine that we have an aquarium and a wooden box. If we will fill
lesson up both of them with water until they become entirely full, which of
them will take more amount of water? Explain.

Based on the illustration, the aquarium will take a greater amount of

water as compared to the wooden box because it has more space to
hold more amount of water. These objects are examples of solid
figures.

C. Presenting The big box below is another example of a solid figure. What kind of
examples of the solid figure is this?
new lesson

Answer: Rectangular prism

Look at the illustration of the box and try to answer the ff. question.

What is the shape of the bottom part of box? (rectangle)

Is it the same with the shape of the top part?(yes)
What is the right side of the box? (square)
Does it have the same shape with the one on the left side?(yes)
Do the back and front sides of the box have the same shape?(yes)

Objects in the real world are called three-dimensional if they have

length, width and height. In Mathematics, the three-dimensional
objects are known as solid figures.

H. Making What are the different spatial figures.?

Generalizations prism, cylinder, cube, pyramid, cone, sphere
and abstractions Describe each one.
about the lesson
Prism-is a solid figure that has two opposite bases that are congruent
and parallel.
Cube- has six square faces that are congruent to each other, has
twelve edges and eight vertices
Cylinder- has two congruent circular bases connected by a curve
surface, has no edge and no vertex.

NOVES SANGILAN & SUSAN GUARDIANO
MATHEMATICS RESOURCE
PACKAGE
Pyramid- a solid figure with polygonal base. Its lateral faces are all
triangles and they meet at a common vertex.
Cone- is a solid with a circular base and a vertex connected by a
curved surface.
Sphere-bounded by a surface whose points are of equal distance from
appoint called center.

What are their common characteristics?

*Prisms and pyramids are common polyhedrons.

*Polyhedron is a three- dimensional geometric figure whose sides are
polygons.
*The base of a prism or a pyramid is a polygonal region of three or
more sides
* Prism has at least two of the flat surfaces must have an angle
between sides.

Give examples of real life objects that represent each spatial figure.

Prism-shoe box
Cylinder-glass
Cube-dice
Pyramid-camping tent
Cone-ice cream cone
Sphere-globe

DISCUSSIONS:

*Polyhedrons are solids that have flat surfaces. Some common

polyhedrons are cubes, prisms, and pyramids. Polyhedrons have faces,
vertices , and edges.

*A cube has 6 square faces that are congruent to each other. It has
12 edges and 8 vertices.

* A prism is a solid figure that has 2 opposite bases that are

congruent and parallel. Its lateral faces are rectangles .The lateral faces of
a right prism are rectangles and they are perpendicular to the bases.

* A pyramid is a solid figure with a polygonal base. Its lateral

faces are all triangles and they meet at a common vertex. The number of
the triangular faces depends upon the number of sides of the polygonal
base.If the height of the pyramid is at the center of the polygonal base,
then the pyramid is aright pyramid.
