Tutorial 3

The document is a tutorial for a course on Dynamics of Rigid Bodies, specifically focusing on problems related to the velocity and acceleration of various components in mechanical systems. It includes multiple problems involving rollers, sliders, and balls in motion, requiring the determination of angular velocities and accelerations. The tutorial emphasizes the application of dynamics principles to analyze the motion of rigid bodies at specific instants.

Dynamics of Rigid Bodies (MMB 333)

Tutorial 3

1. At a given instant the roller A on the bar has the velocity and acceleration shown. Determine
the velocity and acceleration of the roller B, and the bar’s angular velocity and angular
acceleration at this instant.

2. The slider block has the motion shown. Determine the angular velocity and angular
acceleration of the wheel at this instant.

3. At the instant shown, ball B is rolling along the slot in the disk with a velocity of 600 mm/s
and an acceleration of 150 mm/s2, both measured relative to the disk and directed away
1
from O. If at the same instant the disk has the angular velocity and angular acceleration
shown, determine the velocity and acceleration of the ball at this instant.

4. At the instant  = 600, the rod in Figure below has an angular velocity of 3 rad/s and an
angular acceleration of 2 rad/s2. At this same instant, collar C travels outward along the rod
such that when x = 0.2 m the velocity is 2 m/s and the acceleration is 3 m/s2, both measured
relative to the rod. Determine the Coriolis acceleration and the velocity and acceleration of
the collar at this instant.
