Week 1 Jason Torres Cloud Network

This document details the design and implementation of a local area network (LAN) using Cisco Packet Tracer, focusing on components such as routers, switches, and end-user devices with a dynamic routing protocol. The network was successfully created, configured, and tested, confirming effective communication between devices. Future enhancements may include VLAN segmentation and load balancing for improved performance.

Designing a Local Network Using Packet Tracer: Lab Assignment 1

1
Introduction

A well-structured LAN allows for easy communication within an organization. Cisco

Packet Tracer does provide an ideal environment for the simulation that is needed during the

design and testing of network architectures. This report will discuss the designing of a local

network comprising routers, switches, and end-user equipment with appropriate IP addressing

schemes using a dynamic routing protocol.

2
Network Design

 The network consists of the following components:

 Routers: Facilitate inter-network communication.

 Switches: Enable internal device connectivity.

 End-user devices: Computers and other peripherals.

 IP Addressing Scheme: Utilization of subnetting to optimize IP allocation.

 Routing Protocol: Implementation of a dynamic routing protocol for efficient data

transfer.

Implementation Steps

Topology Creation: Devices are placed and interconnected using Ethernet cables.

3
IP Address Configuration: Assigning static IP addresses and setting up DHCP where
necessary.

Testing Connectivity: Using ping, traceroute, and other diagnostic tools to verify network
functionality.

Results and Analysis

The network design was successfully implemented and tested. The diagrams illustrate the
topology and configuration details. Connectivity tests confirm proper communication between
devices, validating the effectiveness of the design.

4
Conclusion

This activity showed the power of structured planning and implementation on a network.

We were able to make a routing protocol-based functioning local network using Cisco Packet

Tracer. Enhancement in the near future could involve VLAN segmentation, load balancing for

better performance, and so much more.
