Time for a lab activity!

Introduction
Complete this lab exercise to practice what you learned in the “Viewing Devices and Inventory” section of this
course. In this activity, you will learn how to view basic information that is related to your network and its devices.

Lab Topology
Task 1: View Device Details
The purpose of this task is to view device details.

Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:

Step 1
From the jump host, open the Google Chrome web browser and click the Cisco EPN Manager bookmark
(https://epnm-40.lab.local) on the toolbar to access your Cisco EPN Manager server.

Step 2
Log in as user root with the password Pass1234.

Step 3
From the menu, choose Inventory > Device Management > Network Devices.
Step 4
The Device Groups navigation pane includes a hierarchy of device types for the managed devices. Practice
expanding and choosing types to see how the list can be filtered. (For example, choose Routers.)

Step 5
In the Device Groups navigation pane, choose All Devices.

Step 6
Above each column in the list of devices is a Quick Filter field. (If it is not displayed, choose Quick Filter from the
Show drop-down menu in the upper right of the list.) Practice entering values to quickly filter the list. (For
example, type PE in the Device Name column.)
Step 7
Delete Quick Filter values to return to the complete list of devices.

Step 8
In the upper right of the table, click the Gear icon drop-down menu and choose Columns. Modify the selected
columns to see how the list changes.

Step 9
To the right of a PE device’s IP address, click the Information icon to open the Device 360° view.

Step 10
Review the Modules tab in the Device 360° view.
Step 11
Click the Interfaces tab in the 360° view.

Step 12
Click the Neighbors tab in the 360° view.

Step 13
Click Actions and notice the available actions. Some devices have different options, and your user privileges
control which actions are available as well.

Step 14
Choose N-Hop Topology. Click the pencil icon to edit the view. Experiment changing the number of hops and
the layout.
Step 15
Close the N-Hop Topology.

Step 16
Close the Device 360° window.

Step 17
To the right of a tcc device’s IP address, click the Information icon to open the Device 360° view. Review the
available information and close the Device 360° view.

Note: In the IP Address column, some devices have a Chassis icon, which means that the device has an
associated chassis view.
Step 18
Click the XRv9k-1 name hyperlink on the Inventory > Device Management > Network Device page. The
Device Details view is displayed.

Step 19
From the Device Details tab, select the various objects in the navigation pane to review details about the device.

Step 20
Click the Configuration tab. Expand the various objects.

From here, you can create or modify some of these objects on the device. For example, if you select Interfaces
> Ethernet, you can edit, delete, and enable interfaces and create subinterfaces on your selected device.

Step 21
Click the Configuration Archive tab. Listed are archived versions of the device’s configurations. (TL1 devices
require further device configuration to retrieve binary configuration images.)

Step 22
Expand the top entry and click Details to see this configuration version.
Step 23
When you are ready, close the window and return to the Configuration Archive tab.

Step 24
Click Other Device and choose the XRv9k-2 device’s running configuration to compare the XRv9k-1 and
XRv9k-2 configurations.

Step 25
View the two configurations side by side. From the Select Type drop-down menu, choose Difference Only.
Step 26
When you are ready, close the windows and return to the Configuration Archive tab.

Step 27

The purpose of this task is to view details of NCS 2000 or ONS (TL1-based) devices.

Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:

Step 1
From the menu, choose Inventory > Device Management > Network Devices.

Step 2
Click a Device Name hyperlink for the tcc181 device (which has the Chassis View icon). Note the difference in
layout.

Step 3
The Chassis View tab is selected and the Chassis Explorer is open. If the device name (tcc181) is not
selected, select it now.
Step 4
With the device selected, notice the available tabs on the right pane.

Step 5
Click the Configuration pane on the right side of the page.
The listed categories display the current configuration but can also be used to perform a configuration with the
proper user groups assigned.
