Continous software maintenance and introduction of new µFORS derivats will require the
installation of an update of the IMK software.
The software will be provided as a zip container file. For installation the zip file should be
extracted to an empty directory. Instructions on how to install the update are provided in the
readme.txt file contained in the package. The readme.txt file also list all µFORS derivats
supported by the IMK-2.
FTP-Server: ftp.litef.de
To access the ftp server and retreive the update package a ftp client must be used. Ftp
access via Internet Explorer may not work correctly.
The ftp server may provide the following files for download (Note: actual files available and
names of files may vary from example):

5 Installation
Note: If an old version of the imk3 software is installed, this must be deinstalled before
the installation process is started.
If you install the program from a downloaded file (e.g. 309715-2001-701_x.exe where x
represents the file revision and may be any letter from “A” thru “Z”), copy the file to C:\
and start it using the windows explorer.
4. The setup program will ask for a location to install
the IMK application to. It is recommended to used
the pre-set path C:\. All references throughout
this document will refer to the default installation
path. Start installation by clicking the OK button.
The installer will automatically install the
application and then terminate.
6. In case you have 2 serial RS-232 COM ports available on your PC continue with step 8.
7. In case you need to use the supplied USB-to-Serial RS-232 converter install the
corrsponding drivers as follows:
C:\LITEF\309715\

To proceed with the installation of the drivers yopu will need administrator priviledges.
Connect the supplied USB-to-Serial RS-232
converter with your PC using the USB cable. There
may be two small sounds and a message indicating
drivers are not installed.
Now start the driver installer and confirm all relevant steps until the installation if finished.

6 Configuration Process
6.1 Safety Remarks
Connect / disconnect a µFORS sensor to / from the IMK2 module ONLY, if IMK indicates,
that power to UUT is disabled i.e. switch if off and leds +3.3V and active are off (see
accordingly in the description of each configuration mode, e.g. chapter 6.5.1, Step 8).
Connect / disconnect the µFORS-6U adapter (PN 309774-0000-000) to / from the IMK2
module ONLY, if the IMK2 box is completely disconneted from power, i.e. power cord is
pulled.
Connect / disconnect the µFORS-1 adapter (PN 309325-2900-000) to / from the IMK2
module ONLY, if the IMK2 box is completely disconneted from power, i.e. power cord is
pulled.
Never switch off the IMK2 module during the configuration process
Never interrupt power to the IMK2 module during the configuration process
Never kill IMK application by using Windows task manager. It is strongly
recommended not to use any other Windows application while configuring a
µFORS sensor.
Never exchange the µFORS sensor between "Connect UUT" and "Configure"
Note: Violation of these remarks mentioned may result in damage of sensor and will cause
loss of warranty.

11. Also the IMK main window will indicate the successful
completion of the configuration process in the log output.
13. If necessary restart the whole procedure, beginning with step 1, for a new UUT.
Especially do not try to read out configuration of one sensor ("Connect UUT")
and configure another sensor ("Configure") by changing the sensor between
these steps! This may result in permanent damage of the sensor and therefore
loss of warranty. The sequence "Connect UUT" - "Configure" must be
performed completely for each sensor to be configured!
Note: If any error occurs the program will give advice on remedial measures.

7 Monitor
The IMK2 provides a limited monitoring functionality which can be used for a
functional test of the sensor. This monitor mode connects to the sensor, acquires
sensor data and provides the choice to store this data to a file and/or display the data
graphically.
Note: The monitor fuction is intended for low level interface and data plausibility tests.
It is not designed and tested to do performance measurement tests.
Note: This monitor mode does not provide data acquisition for the full update rate
possible by the sensor.
Note: If the monitor data shows an actual rate while the gyro is at rest you may
observe the meassured earth rate..

With some laptop computers it can happen, that the power drain of the USB - RS-232
adapter is not high enough for Windows to switch on the USB external power supply. This is
due to the power saving features of these laptops. In this case a USB mouse can be
temporarily attached to this USB port to enable the external power supply of this USB port.
Then remove the mouse and reconnect the USB - RS-232 adapter.
Assigned COM ports may be used by other applications like terminal programs, PDA
syncronisation SW, etc.
IMK setup (installation) assumes a standard PC configuration with ether COM1 and COM2
available or, when using the USB to RS-232 adapter supplied with the IMK2, COM3, COM4,
COM5, COM6 or COM7.
If the configuration of the PC, where IMK shall be installed, differs in any way from this, the
COM port configuration must be manually adjusted.
Make sure that the USB to RS-232 adapter supplied with the IMK2 is connected to
the PC.

CHANNEL=4 // used COM Port
[PCCOMSRV_2]
CFGFILE=.\config\PCCOMSRV.CFG // CFG-File
INIFILE=.\config\PCCOM2.INI // INI-File
CHANNEL=5 // used COM Port
Change the port settings (Channel=...) to the COM port assignments of your computer as
noted in step 4.
E.g. if you noted ports 6 and 9 being assigned to the adapter, this section would look like:
//-------------------------------- PCCOM -------------------------------------
[PCCOMSRV]
NUMBER=2
[PCCOMSRV_1]
CFGFILE=.\config\PCCOMSRV.CFG // CFG-File
INIFILE=.\config\PCCOM1.INI // INI-File
CHANNEL=6 // used COM Port
[PCCOMSRV_2]
CFGFILE=.\config\PCCOMSRV.CFG // CFG-File
INIFILE=.\config\PCCOM2.INI // INI-File
CHANNEL=9 // used COM Port
Note: In case of further communication problems try switching the two COM port channels.
Note: Exchanging multiple USB to RS-232 adapter at the same PC results in COM port
reassignment. Every USB to RS-232 adapter identifies itself towards Windows in a way that

Windows can distinguish these adapters. Therfore every USB to RS-232 adapter gets
individual COM port assignments by Windows. When operating multiple IMK2s with one PC
always use the same USB to RS-232 adapter, otherwise the manual COM port correction
described above has to be performed each time you change the USB to RS-232 adapter.
Possible Cause: Check for SW updates of IMK and install them as described earlier in
this document. If this does not solve the problem contact NG LITEF for
support.
Using Monitor mode with HEX format (refer to chapter 7) allows to make a functional test of
the sensor. In this mode all data bytes, status and checksum are logged in the log-file (see
chapter 9). Analysing these frame bytes (remember: the 0xFF frame start byte is not logged)
allows verifying proper operation of the sensor.
This may be helpful in pinpointing design problems when implementing an IBIS interface.
Typical problems in this respect are cabling problems or implementation problems of the
IBIS interface
