1.4 Introduction

The IMK2 is a configuration tool for NG LITEF single axis fibre optical gyros of the µFORS
family.

 These gyros have the capability to work in three different modi

o rate, the actual turning rate in deg/sec
o incremental angle, the angle rotated since the last request
o accumulated angle, the angle rotated since the last reset
 Within each mode, different measurement ranges can be selected
 The data can be output using different communication interfaces
o IBIS: an synchronous interface
o Async: an RS232 interface with different baud rates and communication
algorithms
 SW-trigger: The Unit Under Test (UUT) is triggered to respond per
software command
 HW-trigger: The UUT is triggered to respond per hardware discrete
 Autonomous: The UUT outputs its data autonomously at a defined
frequency

8 FAQ & Troubleshooting

8.1 USB Power Inactive

With some laptop computers it can happen, that the power drain of the USB - RS-232
adapter is not high enough for Windows to switch on the USB external power supply. This is
due to the power saving features of these laptops. In this case a USB mouse can be
temporarily attached to this USB port to enable the external power supply of this USB port.
Then remove the mouse and reconnect the USB - RS-232 adapter.

8.2 Red LED "+24V" does not light.

Check AC supply of power supply (breaker).

Check if power cord is connected to power supply and outlet.
Check if power supply DC cord is connected to IMK2 module.
Check +24V output of power supply.

8.3 Communication Problem

Problem: Communication between PC and IMK2 is not
working.

Possible Cause: Check availability of assigned COM ports.

Assigned COM ports may be used by other applications like terminal programs, PDA
syncronisation SW, etc.

Possible Cause: COM port assignment mismatch

IMK setup (installation) assumes a standard PC configuration with ether COM1 and COM2
available or, when using the USB to RS-232 adapter supplied with the IMK2, COM3, COM4,
COM5, COM6 or COM7.

If the configuration of the PC, where IMK shall be installed, differs in any way from this, the
COM port configuration must be manually adjusted.

 Make sure that the USB to RS-232 adapter supplied with the IMK2 is connected to
the PC.

Germany

 Use windows hardware manager to determine the

COM port assignment of the COM ports conencted to
the INK2.

 Open Windows Explorer and navigate to

C:\LITEF\309715\2000\config

 Open "Platformhw.ini" in editor and go to section [PCCOM] within this file. This section
should look like the following:
//-------------------------------- PCCOM -------------------------------------
[PCCOMSRV]
NUMBER=2

[PCCOMSRV_1]
CFGFILE=.\config\PCCOMSRV.CFG // CFG-File
INIFILE=.\config\PCCOM1.INI // INI-File
CHANNEL=4 // used COM Port

[PCCOMSRV_2]
CFGFILE=.\config\PCCOMSRV.CFG // CFG-File
INIFILE=.\config\PCCOM2.INI // INI-File
CHANNEL=5 // used COM Port

Change the port settings (Channel=...) to the COM port assignments of your computer as
noted in step 4.

E.g. if you noted ports 6 and 9 being assigned to the adapter, this section would look like:
//-------------------------------- PCCOM -------------------------------------
[PCCOMSRV]
NUMBER=2

[PCCOMSRV_1]
CFGFILE=.\config\PCCOMSRV.CFG // CFG-File
INIFILE=.\config\PCCOM1.INI // INI-File
CHANNEL=6 // used COM Port

[PCCOMSRV_2]
CFGFILE=.\config\PCCOMSRV.CFG // CFG-File
INIFILE=.\config\PCCOM2.INI // INI-File
CHANNEL=9 // used COM Port

Save the file and restart IMK program again.

Note: In case of further communication problems try switching the two COM port channels.

Note: Exchanging multiple USB to RS-232 adapter at the same PC results in COM port
reassignment. Every USB to RS-232 adapter identifies itself towards Windows in a way that

Germany

Windows can distinguish these adapters. Therfore every USB to RS-232 adapter gets
individual COM port assignments by Windows. When operating multiple IMK2s with one PC
always use the same USB to RS-232 adapter, otherwise the manual COM port correction
described above has to be performed each time you change the USB to RS-232 adapter.

8.4 Configuration Failure

Problem: Sensor is recognised or not by IMK2.

Configuration may be read out or not by IMK.
But in the progress of reading out
configuration or when trying to write back a
configuration to the sensor the following error
indications appear:

Possible Cause: Check for SW updates of IMK and install them as described earlier in
this document. If this does not solve the problem contact NG LITEF for
support.

8.5 Functional Verification of Sensor

Using Monitor mode with HEX format (refer to chapter 7) allows to make a functional test of
the sensor. In this mode all data bytes, status and checksum are logged in the log-file (see
chapter 9). Analysing these frame bytes (remember: the 0xFF frame start byte is not logged)
allows verifying proper operation of the sensor.

This may be helpful in pinpointing design problems when implementing an IBIS interface.
Typical problems in this respect are cabling problems or implementation problems of the
IBIS interface
