What is AI

According to the father of Artificial Intelligence, John McCarthy, it is “The science and engineering of

From a business perspective, AI offers powerful tools and methodologies for solving problems. In
programming perspective, AI encompasses symbolic programming, problem-solving, and search
techniques, making it a versatile and essential field in modern technology.
What is Intelligence?
The basic idea of intelligence revolves around the ability to perceive, understand, and effectively
respond to information or stimuli. Here’s a simplified breakdown:
1. Perception
Receiving Information: Intelligence involves gathering data from the environment through
various sensors or inputs, such as vision, hearing, or other sensory modalities.
Understanding Context: This information is then processed to make sense of the current
situation or environment.
2. Understanding
Knowledge Representation: Intelligence involves organizing and interpreting the gathered
information. This includes recognizing patterns, understanding relationships, and storing
knowledge.
Reasoning: Using the represented knowledge to make sense of situations, solve problems, and
draw conclusions. This includes logical thinking, making predictions, and understanding complex
concepts.
3. Action
Decision-Making: Based on understanding and reasoning, intelligence involves making decisions
or plans of action. This could mean solving a problem, responding to a situation, or achieving a
goal.
Execution: Implementing decisions through actions, whether they are physical (like moving an
object) or abstract (like generating a response).
4. Learning and Adaptation

For AI systems to make smart and effective decisions, these search strategies need to be guided by an
appropriate control mechanism. This ensures that the system can navigate its knowledge base
efficiently, making informed choices similar to those made by humans.
Intelligence Systems:

information, reason , make decisions, and take actions in a manner similar to human intelligence. They
are designed to adapt and improve their performance based on experience and changing conditions. In
order to design intelligent systems, it is important to categorize them into four categories (Luger and
Stubberfield 1993), (Russell and Norvig, 2003).

Agent function: Mathematically speaking, we say that an agent's behavior is described by the
agent function that maps any given percept sequence to an action.
Agent program Internally, the agent function for an artificial agent will be implemented by an
agent program. Agent = architecture + program

description; the agent program is a concrete implementation, running on the agent architecture.
