Government should spend more money on education

than other social services

I agree with the statement “ Government should spend more money
on education” because Education is one of the most weapon we can carry in
fighting our life in this world. Education is one of the most important things for
us people. It is not only helpful for us but it is also helpful for the development
of our economy and our community. Just like anyone says, the only thing that
a thief can’t steal to a man is education. Nowadays, the budget for education is
not enough to meet the needs of our youth. In the Philippines, however, the
government continues to give insufficient amount to education while they give
more at the other sector. In this evolving world, education faces challenges
especially in this generation. Population is growing and many students are
enrolling every year. It is very crucial to invest in education. In increasing
funds in education, it will not just help our student in present time but also in
their future and the future of our country. More money spend in education
can lead to better quality learning, development in economy and many more.

Improving Educational Quality

One of the most reason for spending more money in education is to

improve the quality of education. According to Manila Bulletin (2022), the
country’s educational system continues to face challenges especially in
infrastructure like broken classrooms, lack of toilets, inadequate learning
resources, and insufficient teacher education that should be attain by
training, seminars and etc. These problems hinders student from receiving a
quality education. By spending more money in education, the government can
provide better infrastructure, enough learning materials and well trained
teachers. In result, we can improve the quality of education and students can
compete globally bearing the name of our country.

Employment

Secondly, Filipinos have the ability to be one of the best workers in

various types of work because many races say that Filipino is patient and
skilled. According to National Center for Education Statistic (2023), some 80
percent of 25- to 34-year-olds were employed. The employment rate was
higher for those with higher levels of educational attainment. For example,
the overall employment rate was highest for those with a bachelor’s or
higher degree (88 percent); and lowest for those who had not completed
high school (60 percent). Having a higher attainment in education have
more chances in easy employment. Especially nowadays when you apply
for a job they look more at what you have completed. They will only
accept you based on your educational attainment the more higher
education you have the more chances you get accepted. In by spending
more money in education, we can assure that we can decreased the
number of unemployed.
Economic development
Moreover, Education play an important role when it comes to
economic. They say a country with higher literacy makes stronger economy.
According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (2023),
education is the foundation of any functioning society. Investing in education
has individual, country level and global benefits. At the individual level,
education can improves people’s employ-ability,earnings and health
outcomes. Countries that have invested heavily in primary, secondary and
tertiary education have been able to contribute to advancement in sciences
and technology. Globally, investments in education underpin social cohesion,
economic growth, competitiveness and innovation. Investing in education is
necessary to protect economies from sudden shocks and rapidly changing
labor markets.Investing education can forge strong economies and open
societies.

But according to Abhijit Banerjee, a Nobel laureate and

economist, the Government has already spend enough money in
education as part of its budget and giving more can strain the
country’s finances. According to the Philippine Institute for
development studies (2023), government investment in education
and training has increased but still remains low compared to the
Philippines’ more developed peers, resulting in students’ poor
learning outcomes and low quality of education. Well it is true that
the government give budget to education but it is still not enough
to address the problems that education system face. They need to
keep up the growing population, broken infrastructure, lack of
learning materials, inflation, needs of modern technology access
and many more. If we compared our education in another country
we can differentiate our lacking and the government must give
more attention in education. The government should priorities
addressing the quality of education for students. In spending more
money we can lead to have more quality in education, can give
more opportunities for student and strengthen our educational
system.

In conclusion, the government of the Philippines should priorities

increasing its spending in education to promote quality education, easy
employment and economic development. We have strengthen our educational
system by giving our youth a quality education, enough learning materials so
that in the future generation we can ensure that they are knowledgeable
enough and with their skills needed to contribute meaningfully to our society
and our economy. As what Nelson Mandela say “Education is the most
powerful weapon which we can change the world”.In this way we can break
the cycle of poverty and building a brighter future for all Filipinos.
