‭ escribe an important event that you‬

D
‭celebrated‬

‭ ne of the most memorable celebrations I took part in was my close friend Ismat’s‬
O
‭wedding, which took place last summer in the Bakhmal district of Jizzakh,‬
‭Uzbekistan. It was a lively, traditional Uzbek wedding with all the cultural elements‬
‭that make such events vibrant and unforgettable. Weddings are major occasions in‬
‭Uzbekistan, and this one was no exception—it was packed with joyous activities,‬
‭delicious food, and an endless flow of friends and relatives.‬

‭ or some context, Ismat and I have known each other since childhood, so attending‬
F
‭his wedding felt especially meaningful. We had shared countless memories growing‬
‭up, and now, seeing him step into a new chapter of his life was something I wouldn’t‬
‭have missed for the world. The event lasted three days, as many Uzbek weddings do,‬
‭with each day marked by its own unique traditions.‬

‭ n the first day, we gathered at Ismat’s home for the “Nikoh” ceremony, which is a‬
O
‭symbolic, religious contract that marks the official start of their marriage. The‬
‭following day involved a caravan of cars, all honking and decorated with colorful‬
‭ribbons, as we escorted the bride to her new home. I was part of this lively convoy,‬
‭which is one of the most thrilling parts of an Uzbek wedding. The final day included‬
‭the grand feast with pilaf, a traditional Uzbek rice dish, as the centerpiece. I‬
‭remember jokingly challenging myself to eat as much pilaf as possible, knowing I’d‬
‭probably regret it later.‬

‭ hat made this event even more special was that nearly everyone in the village‬
W
‭attended. It felt like the entire community had come together to celebrate. Each time‬
‭I saw familiar faces from different stages of my life, it reminded me of how close-knit‬
‭our community is and how, during big events, we truly come together as one family.‬

‭ ontrasting with other events, like simple birthday parties that come and go, Ismat’s‬
C
‭wedding left a lasting impression. While birthdays can be celebrated again every‬
‭year, a wedding like this one felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience filled with‬
‭cultural richness and community spirit.‬

‭ ad Ismat chosen a quieter, more private wedding, I believe the experience would‬
H
‭have been entirely different and perhaps less memorable. The laughter, music, and‬
‭endless rounds of dancing are part of what make Uzbek weddings so unique.‬

‭ ooking forward, I hope to celebrate more weddings like this with friends and family.‬
L
‭These events are not only about the union of two people but also about creating‬
‭cherished memories that last a lifetime, and for me, Ismat’s wedding will always be‬
‭one of those treasured moments.‬

‭Speaking part3‬

‭1.‬‭Why are festivals important for society?‬

‭ estivals are important because they bring people together,‬
F
‭fostering a sense of community and shared cultural identity. They‬
‭provide an opportunity to celebrate traditions, create memories,‬
‭and strengthen social bonds. For example, religious or cultural‬
‭festivals like Diwali or Christmas allow people to reconnect with‬
‭their roots and spend time with family and friends. Festivals also‬
‭promote diversity by allowing people to experience and‬
‭appreciate different cultures. However, in some societies where‬
‭people are less engaged, festivals might not have the same‬
‭unifying effect.‬

‭2.‬ ‭How do festivals affect the economy?‬

‭ estivals can have a significant positive impact on the economy by‬

F
‭boosting local businesses, tourism, and employment. During‬
‭festivals, people often spend money on food, travel, clothing, and‬
‭gifts, benefiting local shops, hotels, and restaurants. For example,‬
‭events like Oktoberfest in Germany or the Rio Carnival in Brazil‬
‭attract tourists and generate substantial income for the city.‬
‭Additionally, festivals create temporary job opportunities in event‬
‭management, security, and hospitality. On the other hand, if not‬
‭well organized, festivals might lead to overcrowding, affecting the‬
‭local economy negatively.‬

‭3.‬ ‭What are the benefits of attending cultural festivals?‬

‭ ttending cultural festivals allows individuals to immerse‬

A
‭themselves in different customs, traditions, and art forms,‬
‭enhancing their understanding of other cultures. These festivals‬
‭offer a chance to try new foods, watch performances, and interact‬
‭with people from diverse backgrounds, promoting cultural‬
‭ xchange and learning. For instance, attending the Edinburgh‬
e
‭Festival Fringe in Scotland exposes people to a variety of art‬
‭forms and performances. However, some people might find such‬
‭events overwhelming or irrelevant to their personal interests,‬
‭which could lessen the benefits for them.‬

‭4.‬ ‭How do important events shape the identity of a‬

‭country?‬

I‭mportant events, such as national holidays, independence days,‬

‭and historical commemorations, play a crucial role in shaping the‬
‭identity of a country. These events highlight the country’s history,‬
‭values, and traditions, helping people feel a sense of pride and‬
‭belonging. For example, the Fourth of July in the United States‬
‭celebrates independence and is a powerful reminder of the‬
‭country’s founding principles. However, in countries with political‬
‭instability or deep divisions, such events might not have the same‬
‭unifying effect and could even cause tension.‬

‭5.‬ ‭What role do festivals play in preserving traditions?‬

‭ estivals play a vital role in preserving traditions by keeping‬

F
‭cultural practices alive and passing them on to future‬
‭generations. They provide an opportunity for communities to‬
‭celebrate their heritage, teach children about their history, and‬
‭maintain rituals that have been practiced for centuries. For‬
‭instance, the Chinese New Year celebrates ancient customs like‬
‭dragon dances, firecrackers, and family reunions. However, some‬
‭modern festivals may be commercialized, leading to the loss of‬
‭their original meaning and traditions.‬

‭6.‬ ‭How do festivals contribute to tourism?‬

‭ estivals are a major driver of tourism, attracting visitors from all‬

F
‭over the world who are eager to experience the unique cultural or‬
‭entertainment offerings. Festivals like the Carnival in Brazil, the‬
‭Edinburgh Festival, and the Songkran Festival in Thailand draw‬
‭tourists who want to witness the vibrant celebrations. These‬
‭visitors not only contribute to the local economy but also help‬
‭promote cultural awareness and global exchange. However, in‬
‭some cases, overcrowding during popular festivals can detract‬
‭from the experience for both locals and tourists.‬
‭7.‬ ‭Do important events and festivals always have a positive‬
‭impact on communities?‬

‭ hile important events and festivals can have positive effects on‬
W
‭communities by boosting morale and unity, they may also have‬
‭negative consequences if not managed properly. For example,‬
‭large-scale festivals may cause disruptions in daily life, such as‬
‭traffic congestion, waste management issues, or noise‬
‭disturbances. Some individuals or groups may also feel excluded‬
‭if they don't participate or if the event doesn't reflect their values.‬
‭Thus, the impact of these events can vary depending on the‬
‭organization and inclusivity of the celebrations.‬
