What is Libre Office Calc?

It is the Spreadsheet component of Libre office similar to Microsoft excel .It helps to
manage,analyze and visualize data.

What is Libre Office Base?


It an versatile and robust open source database front-end component of libre office. Base uses
internal HyperSQL Databse (HSQLDB). Therefore it is ideal for lightweight standalone
applications. It support all features of conventional relational databse and standard sql for
quering.
Base integrates with other libre office components like Calc and Writer therefore it helps to
create complex report and forms .Base offers easy to use application interface which is extremely
easy to use and helps to manage data easily. It provides wizards so it is very helpful for people
who are knew to database. The templates available in base helps to setup database easily. The
Form Designer in base helps to create custom forms without writing any code.
Base can supply address book data for mail merges in Writer using LDAP protocal. It can also
be used creating linked data ranges in calc files for data pilot analysis or basis for charts .

What is Data integration with base and calc using libre office?
Using Libre Office you can connect Libre Office Base(database) capabilities with libre office
Calc(Spread sheet) capabilities. Here you can transfer your spreadsheet data to a table in your
base database.
importing Calc Spreadsheet to Base Database Table :
1. Save spreadsheet with .dbf extension (to dBase file).
2. Close calcs and open Libre office Base.
3. Now choose the option to connect to an existing database in the select data wizard.
4. You can see a dropdown below the option to select database , from it choose dBase.
5. Click next
6. Copy and paste the path to the dBase file .
7. In last screen select register database for me and Open database for editing.
8. Click finish
9. Now you can see a table created with the name as that of the dBase file.
10. Double click the table , you will see the cals spreadsheet data is imported to table in
base.
