1 (i) The role of the router is to assign IP addresses on a network and also manage traffic,
prevent network congestion, and provide security by filtering incoming and outgoing data
(2 marks)
ii) Fiber optic cables can transmit data at much higher speeds and over longer distances without
significant signal loss. This makes them ideal for high-speed internet connections and large data
transfers.
Fibre optic cables provide less interference with regards to data transfer due to the fibre glass
and not copper wire when compared to twisted pair and coaxial cables. (2 marks)
(iii) A hotspot is a physical location where people can access the internet using Wi-Fi
technology. It is typically set up in public places like cafes, airports, and libraries, allowing users
to connect their devices to the internet wirelessly.
Essential computer network hardware components necessary for setting up a hotspot are:

customer service teams.
Cost Savings: An extranet can reduce costs associated with traditional communication
methods, such as phone calls, faxes, and postal mail. It can also streamline processes,
reducing the need for manual intervention and increasing efficiency.
Increased Security: Extranets provide a secure environment for sharing sensitive
information with external partners and clients. This can help protect company data and
ensure compliance with industry regulations. (2 marks)

(c) drawbacks of using electronic mail (email) compared to normal mail for day-to-day
business communication:
1. Security Risks: Emails can be vulnerable to hacking, phishing, and other cyber threats.
Sensitive information sent via email can be intercepted or compromised.
2. Overload and Spam: Email inboxes can quickly become cluttered with spam,
promotional messages, and irrelevant emails, making it difficult to manage important
communications.
3. Lack of Personal Touch: Unlike handwritten letters or physical mail, emails can feel
impersonal and lack the personal touch that comes with traditional mail.
4. Technical Issues: Emails rely on internet connectivity and electronic devices. Technical
