Lab Report 07

The lab report introduces parametric constraints in 2D orthographic drawing, explaining the importance of constraints in controlling geometry and maintaining specifications. It covers types of constraints used in AutoCAD, including geometric and dimensional constraints, and provides a detailed overview of various constraint types and their applications. The report concludes with a practical exercise in CAD drawing, detailing the steps taken to create an orthographic drawing.

Lab Report # 07

Objective:

Introduction to Parametric Constraints and to exercise a 2D Orthographic Drawing (2D Practice

Drawing-06)

Constraints:
Constraints are rules that are applied to 2D geometry. By applying constraints, you
can control the location, size, distance, angle, and other parameters of objects in a drawing. As a
result, you can identify and maintain specifications in a project.

What are drawing constraints?

Geometric constraints are created automatically between lines, arcs, and other geometry as you
sketch. Constraints can also be manually applied after the sketch geometry exists to stabilize sketch
shape or position. These geometric constraints allow the sketch to be edited with predictable
results.

What are the two types of constraints used in AutoCAD?

There are two general types of constraints:

• Geometric constraints control the relationships of objects with respect to each other.
• Dimensional constraints control the distance, length, angle, and radius values of objects.

What is a constraint tool?

Use Positioning Constraint tool to maintain spatial relationships between parts , IntelliSnap’s,
and/or assemblies. This tool allows the user to determine the desired constraint prior to selecting
any geometry and it will narrow the available types based on entity type selected.

What are dimensional constraints?

Dimensional constraints control the size and proportions of a design. They can constrain the
following: Distances between objects, or between points on objects. Angles between objects, or
between points on objects.
What are parametric constraints in AutoCAD?
Parametric Geometric Constraints | Dimensional Constraints. This is a new feature in AutoCAD
2010. Parametric constraints allow you to force an object to behave the way you want it to. If you
need a line to remain vertical at all times, you can set a constraint on it to do just that.

Parametric constraints ensure that a drawing maintains its original precision by maintaining the
relationships between an object and world space, between two objects, or within the object itself.
Parametric constraints can be placed on all 2D objects

What are 3D constraints?

In engineering design, particularly in the use of computer-aided drafting and design, in the creation
of 3D assemblies and multibody systems, the plural term "constraints" refers to demarcations of
geometrical characteristics between two or more entities or solid modeling bodies.

What is On shape constraint?

Constraints are listed in the sketch dialog when a sketch is being created or otherwise open for
editing. Constraints may be applied between entities in a sketch or between entities in two or more
sketches (for instance, when you Use an entity from one sketch in another sketch).

What is a horizontal constraint?

Description. The Horizontal Constraint forces a selected line or lines in the sketch to be parallel
to the horizontal axis of the sketch.
What are the 12 geometric constraints?
We have the following geometric constraints.
Coincident constraint, Collinear constraint, Concentric constraint, Fixed Constraint, Parallel
constraint, Perpendicular constraint, Horizontal constraint, Vertical constraint, Tangent constraint,
Smooth constraint, Symmetric constraint, and Equal constraint.

What are 2D constraints?

Control drawing entities parametrically by specifying geometric and dimensional properties.
Easily define the relationships between entities and control their dimensions like length and angle.

What is a concentric constraint?

The concentric constraint causes two arcs, circles, or ellipses to have the same center point.

What is a collinear constraint?

Constrain the collinearity between two linear objects. If one line is moved, the other constrained
line adjusts to remain aligned. The lines do not need to be aligned when you place the constraint;
the first line moves to become collinear to the second line.

Is tangent a geometric constraint?

There are tangent, parallel, and perpendicular object snaps and tangent, parallel, and perpendicular
geometric constraints. ... The difference between these relations as object snaps and geometric
constraints is that constraints are persistent.
What is the vertical?
A vertical is an alignment in which the top is always above the bottom. It is a property of two or
more points in which if a point is directly below the second point, and they are vertical to each
other. Vertical lines or objects are always perpendicular to the horizontal lines or objects.
Practice CAD Drawing –VI
Steps:
In the start, I make A2 size rectangle. Then I divide the sheet in the horizontal direction
according to dimension 96mm, 165mm, 97mm, 120mm, 96mm. in vertical direction according to
48mm, 136mm, 48mm, 120mm, 48mm.

Then, I use the trim command to make the box for front view, top view and side view.
Then, I make the front view of the part.

Then, I make top view of the part.

Then, I make side view of the part.

Then, I make title block and give the following details.

The final orthographic drawing is given.
