INTRODUCTION
Hi everyone! This is Sarah GURRADO - @calisarah1998 from Twitter. This document is a
guide that presents you the custom filters I created in the photo mode of Days Gone, the
video game developed by Bend Studio.

WHY DID I CREATE THIS GUIDE?

First of all, I've seen people say " The advanced photo mode is complex, I find it hard to
use ", and it's true! Days Gone's advanced photo mode is one of the most complete and
detailed photo modes I have ever seen. I also didn't know how to use it at first and found
it difficult. I learned a lot about how to use it by varying the settings and watching the
effects it produced. Over time, I saved the filters I created so I wouldn't lose them and
could use them again if I wanted to. I hope that by trying to reproduce these filters you
will better understand the advanced photo mode.
Many of you have asked me "How did you take this shot?", "How did you get that color on
the background?!" or "I love the tones you used, how did you get them?". I tried to answer
you as best I could in comments, but the best way is to show you!
Finally, I've been thinking about sharing my custom filters with you for a while now,
hoping that it will make you want to go back to the game to capture its beauty and share
your creations with the community and the developers. That's how I came up with the
idea for this guide: an easy-to-use tool that you can save on your phone or computer.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE?

This guide includes general tips and tricks for using this advanced photo mode and
several custom filters. For each of these filters, you'll find the photo mode settings to
apply to create the filter, illustrative images and specific tips and tricks.
These are the basic parameters. Don't hesitate to add or reduce brightness, contrast and
vary the settings if needed: filters have different effects depending on the place, the time
of day or night, the weather etc... It's up to you to adapt the filter and make it your own
depending on what you want to create!

WILL THERE BE OTHER GUIDES?

Since I play this game regularly and just started my first game on the PC version, I think
I will make another guide with my new filters.
Also, if you have created custom filters and would like to share them with the community,
it will be a pleasure to include them in the next guide! Of course, you will be credited for
your creations. If you want to participate, feel free to DM me on Twitter - @calisarah1998.

I hope this guide will be useful to you, and that it will make you want to dive (again) into
the wonderful world of Days Gone. If you use my filters, feel free to tag me on your photos,
in comments or send them to me by DM. I would love to see your creations!

TIPS & TRICKS
Using the bloom
The bloom is the parameter that adds glow from light
sources (sun, fire, motorcycle headlights...). You can
change the color, size and height of this glow. You can
change the settings of 2 different bloom.
 By changing the color of the glow, you can give
a different tone to your photo (warm up the
tones, give a sunset effect...) without changing
the other filter settings.

Warm tones
 You can change the orientation of the glow
(horizontal or vertical) by changing the values
on the X and Y parameters.

Vertical Horizontal

If you want to take a portrait photo, you may have to change the orientation of the bloom to horizontal.

If the photo is too contrasted

If the photo looks too contrasty and you lose detail in the
darker parts, you can try this:

1. Increase the OFFSET value in the COLOR GRADING

window:

2. Increase the contrast in the normal photo mode:

If the photo is too dark or too light
If the photo is too dark or too light and the brightness setting is already at maximum / minimum, you have 2 possibilities: using tint
or gamma in the depth color grading window. The advantage of these methods is that you can adjust the brightness of the background
and foreground differently.
 Using tint in the depth color grading window

Increasing the far tint values (from 1 Reference photo - All parameters are Reducing the far tint values (from 1 to

How to create a black background?
You can easily create a black background by changing the far tint in the depth color grading settings.

1. Reduce the red, green and blue far tint to 0. “Far tint”

2. Reduce the transition spread to 1.

3. Change the transition depth to bring the black
background closer behind the character.
