This workbook is designed to be completed as you progress through the


module. You will cover all the relevant skills in lectures and your lecturer
will tell you when to start each of the tasks. When completed, you should
submit it to Turnitin as one document by the deadline given in your
assessment brief. All the tasks in this workbook MUST be based on the
following essay question:

Discuss the impact of social media on interpersonal relationships.

You must complete the first 4 tasks before writing the 500-word essay in
task 5. Please note that the word limits given for each section of the essay
are indicative. You MUST attempt all tasks; failure to do so will result in
grade deductions.

Read the news article given and identify some of the main ideas from the
text. Then state how the key points relate to your given essay question.

Then discuss the differences/similarities between the arguments/findings
in the two articles. Finally, state how you will use the ideas from these

Task 3: Paraphrasing and Synthesising (150 words)

Choose one or two sentences (30-40 words) from Source B and another
one or two sentences (30-40 words) from Source C. These should contain
ideas that you could use to support an argument in your essay. Copy and
paste them into the boxes labelled Original. Then use the other box to
write down your paraphrase. Finally, write a short passage which
synthesises ideas from both sources, using your paraphrased sentences.

Task 4: Essay Outline (150 words)
The next task will be to write a 500-word essay which answers your given
essay question. Write down the outline of that essay. Use citations to
show where your evidence will come from.
