INTRODUCTION
This document contains a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about enabling Redwood for
Oracle Cloud HCM Applications.

FUNCTIONAL Q&A
Q. What is Redwood?
A. Redwood is Oracle's next-generation design and development platform that is being adopted
across all the Fusion Application pillars, ensuring modern, consumer-grade+ experiences.

Q. What are the benefits to my organization from adopting Redwood?

A. Redwood experiences are highly ENGAGING - our focus is to deliver modern experiences that
exceed the best experiences from leading consumer app companies.
• Modern design is optimized for mobile, with conversational user interfaces.
• Rich, immersive experiences, bring together related areas of activity into consolidated action
centers for Employees, Managers, Learning Specialists and more.
• Unified design elements deliver experiences that are easily personalized to guide users to
better results and engagement.

Focused on performance so users can get through tasks more efficiently, with fewer clicks and
faster downloads.
• Designed as single web page, faster page load times and no more full-page refreshes.
• Fewer clicks, improved navigation, and contextual availability of data for the user means
HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY for uses through Redwood.

Redwood applications are Intelligent - Improving productivity, elevating experiences, and

transforming how work gets done.
• Our Natively embedded AI in the UX, AI and GenAI in the Apps – transforms how users
experience and interact with the technology.
• Intelligent nudges and next best actions drive better user outcomes.
• Contextual Journeys streamline and simplify experiences while driving improved consistency
and data quality.

And finally – Redwood is highly Adaptable. Unique to Redwood is our new Visual Builder Studio
Express Business Rules Framework – the new personalization tool that lets you tailor HR processes
and ensures data quality. It replaces the previous Transaction Design Studio. With our new
Business Rules, you can:
• create and manage all your defaulting and validating AutoComplete rules, basing them on
various criteria such as country, business unit, user, role, etc.
• Make fields and regions required or optional, read-only or editable, and show or hide fields
and regions depending on the criteria.
• Access the tool directly from the page; Visualize and filter data in an organization tree;
Perform many actions in a single click like deactivate all rules.
• Identify the fields and regions affected by a rule at a glance, and Instantly test page
personalization.
Q. Which Cloud HCM applications are included in Redwood UI?
A. The footprint for Redwood UI is continually evolving. Generally speaking, two groups of Cloud
HCM applications are included in Redwood UI: applications natively written for Redwood UI and
applications evolving from Responsive UX to Redwood UI.

Q. When should my organization adopt Redwood UI?

A. For the applications natively written for Redwood UI, we strongly encourage customers to start the
process of adopting those apps. For those applications moving from Responsive UX to Redwood
UI, we encourage customers to investigate Redwood UI and make the move when it makes sense
for your enterprise. Customers should also consider Oracle’s recommended Adoption Plan at a
Glance, included here as Figure 1.

Q. How do I move pages from Responsive UX to Redwood UI?

A. Enabling Redwood UI involves setting Administrator Profile Values. Refer to My Oracle Support
Doc ID 2922407.1, “HCM Redwood Pages with Profile Options” for instructions. In addition to
setting the Administrator Profile values, an evaluation of existing personalizations and extensions
should be done to inform the development of a Redwood Adoption timeline specific to your
organization.

Q. Can Redwood be enabled incrementally, or must customers move all at once.?

A. Redwood can be enabled on a page-by-page basis. Customers can adopt applications and features
natively written in Redwood at any time. For applications and features transitioning from Classic
Simplified UI or Responsive UX, see My Oracle Support Document ID 2922407.1, "HCM Redwood
Pages with Profile Options", for more information.

Q. Does Redwood cost extra?

N. No. Redwood is part of your Cloud HCM Applications licensing.

Q. Are there any prerequisites for migrating from Responsive UX to Redwood UI?
A. Yes. Oracle Search should be enabled if you haven’t already done so. Refer to My Oracle Support
Doc ID 2922407.1, “HCM Redwood Pages with Profile Options” for instructions. There are many
benefits of moving to Oracle Search including improved results and faster performance.

Q. What about the Oracle Search prerequisite for newly provisioned environments?
A. Beginning with update 24A, all newly provisioned environments will be delivered with Redwood
enabled. Customers should refer to “Fusion HCM: Redwood Required Steps for Environment
Provisioned on Release 24A” – My Oracle Support Doc ID 2997123.1 for instructions on enabling
Oracle Search for newly provisioned environments.

Q. Where can I find a list of Responsive UX pages that are available for moving to Redwood UI?
A. Refer to My Oracle Support Doc ID 2922407.1, “HCM Redwood Pages with Profile Options” for a full
list of Responsive UX pages with Redwood UI equivalents and the profile options requiring
enablement for each page.
Q. What impact will the delivery of Redwood have on support for Responsive UX pages?
A. Oracle will continue to support Responsive UX pages during the rollout of Redwood, although
customers should expect no new development and very limited code fixes for Responsive UX
going forward.

Q. Must my organization be using Responsive UX in order to move to Redwood?

A. No. Customers using still Classic UI can and should move directly to Redwood.

Q. Are some Redwood UI profile options delivered enabled by default?

A. Yes. Refer to My Oracle Support Doc ID 2922407.1, “HCM Redwood Pages with Profile Options” for
a listing of which profile options are delivered enabled by default.

Q. Can I enable some applications with Redwood UI while waiting to enable other HCM applications?
A. Yes. Customers can opt into portions of Redwood UI when it makes sense for them.

Q. How can I personalize and extend pages in Redwood UI?

A. Extensions and personalizations are built and deployed using Visual Builder Studio Express Mode
and Business Rules. Note that Page Composer, Transaction Design Studio and Autocomplete have
been replaced, with the functionality consolidated in Business Rules. For more information, please
see Extending Redwood Applications Using Visual Builder Studio – My Oracle Support Doc ID
2991662.1

Q. When will Redwood become mandatory for all Oracle customers?

A. We are asking our customers to move all employee and manager self-service pages to Redwood
prior to taking the 25B update. 25B will be delivered with Redwood enabled for employee and
manager self-service pages enabled. Other pages should be adopted no later than the end of
2025.

Q. Will 25B also be delivered with Redwood enabled for the Administrative pages?
A. The target for adopting for adopting Redwood for the Administrative/Professional HCM pages is
the end of calendar year 2025. But rather than delaying until that time, customers are advised to
move forward with Redwood wherever possible in order to provide a more consistent user
experience.

Q. Are there additional considerations or milestones regarding the migration to Redwood?

A. Yes. Those additional considerations include:

• Learning Self-Service for Learners and Managers will transition to mandatory use of Redwood
during the 24B update.
• Time Card customers must transition to from the Classic UI timecard before or during the 24D
update.
• Journeys will replace Checklists and Onboarding as of the 24D update.
• Newly provisioned pods will be delivered with Redwood enabled as of the 24A update.
• In addition, Oracle will deliver some pages with Redwood enabled when we see value for our
customers in doing so; an example is the delivery of the User Person Types page in 23D.
• HR Help Desk has no mandatory deadline set for migrating to Redwood.
Q. Is activity sequencing required to enable Redwood Self-Service for Learnings and Managers?
A. Yes. Please see https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/talent-management/24b/faiml/enable-
redwood-self-service-for-learners.html#u30236400

Q. Which configurations will be converted automatically from classic/responsive to Redwood?

A. The My Oracle Support document “HCM Redwood Pages with Profile Options” (Doc ID 2922407.1)
provides a list of the Redwood profile options and describes which pages are delivered
enabled. Unless otherwise indicated, customers must manually enable Redwood for specific HCM
pages.

Q. Where can I find the HCM security privileges required for Redwood?
A. All the HCM security privileges are found in the Oracle Security Reference for HCM Guide. The 24B
version can be found at https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/saas/human-
resources/24b/oawpm/index.html#COPYRIGHT_0000.

Q. When you go to redwood design are all pillars impacted - i.e. is the look at feel of ERP also
changed? I always thought this was a theme and so look a feel systemwide would be impacted. Is
this true?
A. Redwood is an Oracle-wide initiative. Each product pillar has their own roadmap for how they are
rolling out Redwood, including ERP, CX, EPM, SCM. Redwood is not just a look and feel theme. It
also includes modernized page templates with improved efficiencies.

Q. Will the existing deeplinks be overhauled to point to these new Redwood pages?
A. In 24B, users will find two separate sets of Deep Links: “Deep Links” for the Responsive UX Quick
Actions and “Redwood Quick Actions”, the latter obviously intended for Redwood pages. Users
with security authorization to access Deep Links can find them by the following navigation:
Navigator > Tools > Deep Links.

Q. Can customers on 24B or later compare Responsive UX with Redwood pages?

A. An easy way to compare the two is through the use of Deep Links. Look at any page in both
Responsive UX and Redwood by viewing the page through each of the different types of Deep
Links.

Q. Are there best practices in how to efficiently reconfigure and test on Redwood?
A. The MOS document “HCM Redwood Pages with Profile Options (Doc ID 2922407.1)” provides the
details on how to enable the Redwood pages. After Redwood pages are enabled in your TEST
environment, you will be able to view the page and if necessary, open the page with VBS Express to
edit, test, and publish the page to DEV and PROD environments for use. Please see Extending
Redwood Applications Using Visual Builder Studio – My Oracle Support Doc ID 2991662.1 for
additional details.
TECHNICAL Q&A

Q. What is the foundational difference between Responsive UX and Redwood?

A. Responsive UX was built with the Oracle Applications Development Framework (“ADF”) in the
JDeveloper integrated development environment. Redwood UI is built on the Oracle JavaScript
Extension Toolkit (“Oracle JET”) in Visual Builder Studio.

Q. How will page personalizations transition to Redwood?

A. Page personalizations created in Page Composer and Transaction Design Studio must be rewritten
in Visual Builder Express Business Rules. Oracle recommends that customers inventory their page
personalizations, determine which personalizations they plan to carry forward to Redwood UI, and
subsequently rewrite those personalizations in Business Rules. The Oracle Redwood
Personalization Helper Tool (discussed later herein) can be a significant aid in identifying and
migrating page personalizations.

Q. Will AutoComplete Rules survive the transition to Redwood?

A. In discussing the transition to Redwood, AutoComplete Rules must be considered in two
categories: Validation Rules and Defaulting Rules. For the most part, AutoComplete Validation
Rules will transition to Redwood. Some Autocomplete validation rules may need to be
reconfigured, so you will need to test these. But all defaulting Autocomplete rules will need to be
built in VBS Business Rules. This functionality will be introduced in release 24B under safe harbor.
It's also worth noting that customers will need to maintain any existing AutoComplete rules for
HDL and HSDL.

Q. Is there documentation comparing the functionality of Transaction Design Studio to Visual Builder
Studio Express Business Rules?
A. In My Oracle Support Doc ID 2991662.1, "Extending HCM Redwood Applications Using Visual
Builder Studio", the Technical Brief includes a section comparing Express Mode vs HCM
Experience Design Studio and Page Composer.

Q. Where can I get help with using Visual Builder Studio Express Mode to extend and personalize
HCM apps?
A. You can refer to MOS Doc ID 2991662.1, “Extending Redwood Applications Using Visual Builder
Studio”. In addition, you can post your questions in the Visual Builder Studio for HCM Applications
forum on Oracle Cloud Customer Connect, found at
https://community.oracle.com/customerconnect/categories/hcm-visual-builder-studio-for-hcm.

Q. Are there any limitations in using Visual Builder Studio to personalize, customize or tailor HCM
pages in Redwood UI?
A. HCM delivers our pages in such a way that VB Express Mode is the capability for safely extending
and personalizing Redwood pages. HCM only supports extensibility and personalization using VB
Express Mode, other than HCM pre-approved and documented use cases for Advanced mode;
submit proposals to the Idea Lab on Customer Connect.
Q. When will DFFs and EFFs be supported?
A. Oracle began rolling out incremental support for DFFs and EFFs in 23D on a page-by-page basis,
with full support planned in the near future.

Q. Will the locators change for my automated testing scripts?

A. Generally speaking, yes. Redwood pages are built with Oracle JET rather than ADF. So most
locators will change.

Q. What is the Oracle Redwood Personalization Helper Tool?

A. The Tool collects and reports on all page personalizations made in a source Responsive UX
environment (either production or non-production) and generates a report of those
personalizations, including which personalizations are supported for migration and which are not.
It also provides the option to migrate supported personalizations to a target Visual Builder Studio
workspace for application in a Redwood environment.

Q. Is the Tool version specific?

A. Yes. There is a 24A version of the Tool to be used with 24A HCM environments and a 24B version
to be used with 24B HCM environments.

Q. Where can I learn more about the Tool and download the Tool?
A. You can learn more about the Tool and download the Tool at the COE Central website at
https://securesites.oracle.com/OracleCoE/ready-for-redwood/redwood-helper-tool.html.

Q. Which apps modules support migration of page personalizations via the Tool in 24B?
A. Table 6.1 in My Oracle Support Document ID 2999756.1, “Fusion HCM User Guide: HCM Redwood
Personalization Helper Tool”, lists the supported HCM apps modules for 24B.

Q. How do I get help using the Tool?

A. Post a question in the Redwood Personalization Helper Tool on Oracle Cloud Customer Connect at
https://community.oracle.com/customerconnect/categories/hcm-redwood-personalization-
helper
