The ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity inspire many nationalist movements in other countries.
Reign of Terror
➢ Newly formed government faced internal and
external problems
➢ Disagreement over the execution of King Louis XVI
➢ Created turbulence and violence in France
➢ Taking advantage of this, Jacobins, a radical political
group- seized the power
➢ Jacobins, led by Maximilien Robespierre, unlashed
the Reign of Terror from 1793 to 1794 i.e for a
period of ten months
➢ The enemies of the revolution were executed.
➢ Enemies included- Clergy, ex-nobles, members of
other party and members of their own party who
did not agree their methods
➢ Egalitarian principles- the rationing of food grains,
ending all aristocratic privileges and abolition of
slavery
