Cause and Prerequisites


You want to create the OPS$ user on the Oracle database for the SAP <SAPSID>ADM user or you want to change the passwords of the database users.

Solution SAP BASIS <= Release 4.6D:


Use the SAP CHDBPASS tool with the OS ora<SID> user. The CHDBPASS tool is available on the kernel CD under /UNIX/COMMON/INSTALL and a newer one can be found also on sapservX /general/R3server/patches/rel46D/UNIX/COMMON. The menu option (a) Initialize OPS-connect and change for CHDBPASS creates the OPS$<SAPSID>ADM the SAPUSER table, which is required for the SAPR3 user is stored there. You must then grant authorization to the database user for the sapdba role.

SAP BASIS >= Release 6.10:


Use the oradbusr.sql script. This script is attached to the note 50088. The script is valid for Oracle and Unix. Use the following syntax sqlplus /NOLOG @oradbusr.sql SCHEMAOWNER UNIX SAP_SID x The SCHEMAOWNER is either SAPR3 or has to start with SAP followed by the three digit schema id (example: SAPPRD). On Unix x is a dummy parameter and may e. g. be set to X. To change the password for the SAPR3 or SAP<SID> user you have to use the following command:
