1. A sinusoidal signal is transmitted using PCM scheme.
The target o/p SNR should be greater than
13 dB. Find the minimum no of representation levels(L) and the min no of bits required to represent each sample to achieve the above performance. 2. Consider a sinusoidal signal given by S(t) = 3 sin(1000*pi*t) i) Find the o/p SNR when the signal is quantized using 9-bit PCM ii) Also find min no of bits needed to achieve o/p SNR of at least 40 dB 3. A TV signal with a max fr of 42 MHz is transmitted using binary PCM. The no of quantization level is 1024. Calculate i) Codeword length ii) Transmission BW iii) Average o/p SNR iv) Bit Rate 4. An i/p signal applied to PCM has a max fr of 4 kHz and the i/p range varies from -4.8 to 4.8 V. The average power of i/p signal is 30 mW. The target o/p SNR is 20 dB. Assume uniform quantization and PCM produces binary o/p. i) Calculate the no of bits required to represent each sample. ii) Identify the transmission BW 5. A compact disc CD records audio signal digitally by using PCM. Assume the audio signal has 15 kHz frequency. Calculate i) Nyquist rate ii) If the Nyquist samples are quantized into 16384 levels, identify the no of binary digits to encode a sample. iii) Determine the signaling rate iv) For practical reason, the signals are sampled at a rate above Nyquist rate at 40100 samples per second. If L= 16384, determine the no of bits per sec received to encode the signal. Also find the transmission BW of encoded signal. 6. Consider a PCM system with an accuracy of +/- 0.1 %. The analog signal has a max fr of 100 Hz and amplitude of -5V to +5V i) Determine the max required sampling rate ii) Determine the max no of bits required to represent each PCM word iii) Determine the min bit rate required for PCM signal iv) Determine the min absolute BW required for the transmission of PCM signal 7. A PCM system uses a uniform quantizer followed by a 6-bit encoder. The bit rate of the system is 50 Mbps i) Identify the message BW for which the system represents satisfactorily ii) Determine the o/p SNR when a sinusoidal signal of 1 MHz frequency is applied as o/p. 8. The signal x(t) = 2 sin (2000*pi*t) – 4 sin (4000*pi*t) is quantized using a 12bit quantizer. What is the RMS quantization error and quantized SNR.
