The University of Minnesota Twin Cities admissions committee has completed a very careful, individual review of
your application for Fall 2024. Based on an individualized, overall assessment of your application, including your
coursework, grades, and the additional information you provided, I sincerely regret that we are unable to offer you a
place in the University’s Fall 2024 freshman class.
Admission to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities is highly competitive. The competitiveness of admission each
year is determined by the number of applications received, the academic qualifications of the applicant pool, and the
number of spaces available in the freshman class.
For example, for Fall 2023 admission, we received more than 39,000 applications for a freshman class of
approximately 6,700 students. While we were very grateful for the strong interest in the University of Minnesota, the
number of applications submitted and the strength of the applicant pool has created a competitive admissions
situation.

If you would like to be considered for another University of Minnesota campus if you have not done so already, the
Share My App program allows students to apply for admission at one or more additional campuses of the University
of Minnesota system with no additional application, and no additional application fee. The University is proud of the
educational opportunities offered on all of our campuses: Crookston, Duluth, Morris, or Rochester. To learn more

Many students transfer to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities after beginning their studies at other institutions.
You may wish to consider an alternative college or university where you can complete coursework and possibly
transfer later to the University of Minnesota. Transfer admission is also competitive, so it is very important that you
earn a strong grade point average in your college coursework. Additional information about transfer admission can
be found at z.umn.edu/transferUofM.
If you have any questions about transferring to the University and how to prepare, please contact the Office of
Admissions at 1-800-752-1000 to speak with a Transfer Admissions Counselor.
