11th program..

The document outlines procedures for creating Histogram, Motion Charts, and Waterfall Charts using Global-superstore data. It details steps for generating simple and dimension-based histograms, as well as how to set up motion charts with data points and trailing lines. Additionally, it explains the process of creating waterfall charts to visualize profit changes across sub-categories, including the use of dual axes for differentiating positive and negative values.

Program to demonstrate the Histogram, Motion Charts,

Waterfall Charts.

Histogram:

• Simple Histogram
• Histogram with Dimensions
Simple Histogram (1 measure):

• To apply histogram, connect to Global-superstore data.

• Now drag Quantity to rows shelf, then open Show Me and select the Histogram
chart.
• It shows the quantities automatically bucketed into values ranging from 0 to 4811 and
divided into 12 bins.

Histogram with Dimensions:

• You can create histogram with dimensions by using a dimension field in colors shelf.
• For the above graph drag Region to the color Shelf under Marks Card.
• This creates a stacked histogram where each bar also includes the visualization for
different regions.
Motion Charts:

• To apply motion charts, connect to Global-Superstore data.

• Now drag Order Date to the Columns Shelf and again to the Pages Shelf.
• For both Order Date in columns shelf and Pages shelf, right-click on the Order
Date and choose Month.

• Then drag the Sales to the Rows Shelf. The following chart appears.
• As soon as we add Order Date to the Pages section, play box appears on the right.
• Now, we select Circle as the mark type from the Marks list. This will show
individual data points on the plot.

• Now check the Show history and click on it. Then select All, and Both options
• We select the option Both so that our motion chart has both data points and trailing
line when it moves from a start point to an endpoint.
• Now, clicking on the play button as shown in the screenshot below, our motion chart
starts from one point, moves towards the right following the trail of every data point
and then finally terminates on the last data point on the plot.
Waterfall Chart:

• To apply waterfall charts, connect to Global-Superstore data.

• Now drag Sub-Category to columns shelf and Profit to Rows shelf.
• Now we need to change our mark type to Gantt Bar. Select the Gantt Bar option
from the drop-down list in Marks card

• The following Gantt chart appears

• Next, right-click on the Profit value and select Running total from the Quick table
calculation option.

• Create a calculated field named -Profit and mention the formula as –[Profit] in the
calculation editor, then click ok.

• Drag the newly created calculated field (-Profit) to the size shelf under Marks Card.
The chart above now changes to produce the following chart which is a Waterfall
chart.
• Next, give different color shades to the bars in the chart by dragging the Profit to the
Color shelf under the Marks Card. You get the following waterfall chart with color

Additional information to show negative and positive values in waterfall charts:

• In the next step, we duplicate Profit (add Profit again to the rows shelf and perform
the same operations as above to the Profit Field i.e., up to Running Totals). This will
give us two separate water fall charts as shown in the screenshot below.
• Now remove Profit from colour and size shelves only for the duplicate Profit i.e.,
Sum (Profit) (2). You can see it in the above picture.
• Then you get the Gantt chart for the second one. (You can even change the colour of it
by clicking on color and select black.)

• Now right-click on second Profit under Columns shelf and select Dual Axis.
• You get the final waterfall chart where the line differentiates the positive and negative
values of Profit. From this, we can understand which Sub-Category managed to incur
most profits and which underwent loss. In this way, waterfall charts prove to be
extremely useful in analysis.
