Assignment
Class: XI Sc Sub: Maths

1. A letter is chosen at random from the word „ASSASSINATION‟.

Find the probability that letter is (i) a vowel (ii) a consonant (iii)
Letter S

2. In Class XI of a school 40% of the students study Mathematics and

30% study Biology. 10% of the class study both Mathematics and
Biology. If a student is selected at random from the class, find the
probability that he will be studying Mathematics or Biology

3. Out of 100 students, two sections of 40 and 60 are formed. If you

and your friend are among the 100 students, what is the probability
that (a) you both enter the same section? (b) you both enter the
different sections?

4. Three letters are dictated to three persons and an envelope is

addressed to each of them, the letters are inserted into the
envelopes at random so that each envelope contains exactly one
letter. Find the probability that at least one letter is in its proper
envelope.

5. A bag contains 9 discs of which 4 are red, 3 are blue and 2 are
yellow. The discs are similar in shape and size. A disc is drawn at
random from the bag.Calculate the probability that it will be (i) red,
(ii) yellow, (iii) blue, (iv) not blue,(v) either red or blue.

6. A fair coin is tossed four times, and a person win Re 1 for each
head and loseRs 1.50 for each tail that turns up. From the sample
space calculate how many different amounts of money you can
have after four tosses and the probability of having each of these
amounts.
7. Find the mean and variance of the frequency distribution given
below:

x 1≤x<3 3≤x<5 5≤x<7 7 ≤ x < 10

f 6 4 5 1

8. If mean and standard deviation of 100 items are 50 and 4

respectively, then find the sum of all the item and the sum of the
squares of item

9. Find the mean deviation about the mean for the following data:

Marks 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70 70-80

obtained
Number of 2 3 8 14 8 3 2
students

10. The mean and standard deviation of 100 observations were

calculated as 40 and 5.1, respectively by a student who mistakenly
took 50 instead of 40 for one observation. What are the correct
mean and standard deviation?

11. The mean and standard deviation of six observations are 8

and 4, respectively. If each observation is multiplied by 3, find the
new mean and new standard deviation of the resulting
observations.

12. Calculate the mean deviation about the mean for the
following frequency distribution:

Class 0-4 4-8 8-12 12-16 16-204

Interval
Freq. 4 6 8 5 2
13. The scores of a batsman in 10 innings are 48, 80, 58, 44, 52,
65, 73, 56, 64, 54, then find the mean deviation from the median.

14. Find the mean deviation about the median for the following
data:

xi 3 6 9 12 13 15 21 22
fi 3 4 5 2 4 5 4 3

15. Differentiate the equation: x³ eˣ sin(x)

16. Differentiate x⁵ eˣ + x⁶ log x with respect to x.

17. Differentiate (x sin x + cos x) (eˣ + x² log x) with respect to x.

18. Differentiate 1+ sin x with respect to x.

19. Differentiate √❑❑ with respect to x.
