SUPERCOMPUTERS (MONSTERS)
A supercomputer is the largest, fastest, most powerful and expensive computer
that is designed to carry out extreme, complex computing task such as climate
research, weather forecasting, defence, scientific research, nuclear energy
research and space exploration. Examples: Cray, Sierra, Titan, IBM
Roadrunner, Mira.
MAINFRAME
A mainframe is a very powerful, large capacity, multiprocessing computer
with several CPUs, capable of supporting hundreds or even thousands of users
simultaneously. Example: IBM zEnterprise. They are found in large
organizations such as banks, airlines, government agencies, utilities companies
and insurance companies.
MINICOMPUTERS
A minicomputer is a midrange server or workstation that supports a handful to
up to about 200 users at the same time. They have become outdated and rarely
used today. They were mainly used in manufacturing, research labs and small
businesses. Examples PDP-8, DECPDP-11
DESKTOP COMPUTERS
Desktop computers also called personal computers (PC) are microcomputers that
contain a very small silicon chip processor called a microprocessor or CPU.
They are small and powerful but not portable. They are found in homes, offices,
computer labs, schools, Internet cafes and small and medium-sized organisations.
MOBILE DEVICES
Mobile devices are small, portable microprocessors. They have powerful
processors, a lot of memory and storage capacity.

Examples: laptops, notebooks, netbooks, Chromebooks, tablets, eReaders,

smartphones, games consoles.
EMBEDDED COMPUTERS
Embedded Computers are special purpose computers that are used
inside a device and is usually dedicated to specific functions.
They are mainly used in washing machines, cameras, cars, motors,
sewing machines, clocks and microwaves.
