1.1 Overview
This document provides instructions for installing the Somaris/10 software after replacing
a computer (ICS/IRS), or in case of a software crash or failure where reinstallation may be
helpful.
The document describes Somaris/10 VA30. The following table provides an overview of
when to use the various installation procedures.
All partitions are deleted during ICS/IRS installation, patient data and raw data, respec‐
tively, will be deleted.
Do not install the software on both computers at the same time, because you will loose
all the content of the service partition (configuration data, service packs, etc.).
If this rather unusual workflow happens, be sure to sync back the content of the service
partition onto the newly installed computer prior to starting the installation on the other
computer.
For details, please see section ( Manual procedure to sync the content of the service
partitions / Page 67).
We recommend using the English-language version of the admin portal. Select it via the
cogwheel menu > Administration Portal [EN]. One reason for this recommendation is
that the configuration export/import task does not work with the Spanish UI.
WARNING
Unauthorized or incorrect operation or changes to software may lead to malfunc‐
tions in your system. The results may be injuries or system defects.
For this reason, the use or installation of software not approved by Siemens is
strictly prohibited.
The customer needs to archive all images and raw data prior to installing the SW if possi‐
ble.
Use this function to install the software after ICS replacement and when reinstalling soft‐
ware on the same ICS computer.
Please be aware that the installation procedure for the ICS-1d tower differs from the pro‐
2.1 Prerequisites
P/n 110 61 682 contains the SD card with the VA30A Clone Image.
If the computer is still working, please perform the following steps. If not, continue with
the installation.
2.1.2.1 Configuration Export (backup of configuration data) and synchronize files to service
partition
The system saves configuration changes automatically during system startup or during
the night using a scheduled task, with the exception of the following two workflows.
n CT Workflow: TuneUp Data (includes all data for restoring IRS computer)
n CT Workflow: User Groups and Roles (configures windows user groups and roles - lo‐
cal and domain users)
Procedure
n Select within admin portal service work space Installation > Configuration Export/
Import
n Perform the configuration export of cluster item CT Workflow: TuneUp Data
- Select data for export: CT Workflow: TuneUp Data (includes all data for restoring IRS
computer)
- Select export scope: All configuration data
- Select target for export: Service Partition
- Press button Export and check for successful completion
n Perform the export of cluster item CT Workflow: User Groups and Roles with the
same settings as described above.
- Open a command prompt with admin rights (runas ...) and enter the following
command:
C:\somaris\bin\CT.Infrastructure.CustomerSupport.SyncWi
thIRS.exe -backup
The message “IRS is not idle..” indicates that the sync to the IRS service partition
does not work. Power OFF/ON the system and retry.
Siemens remote access is disabled if the “User groups - Siemens Remote Access” check‐
box is unchecked.
Select the recovery image from the admin portal, if possible. Otherwise, you need to
boot WinPE to select the recovery image. Both procedures are described below, one after
another.
2.2.1 Select and install the recovery image from the admin portal
If the admin portal is no longer accessible, continue with section ( Boot WinPE to select
and install the recovery images / Page 12).
n Go to the Administration Portal
n Select service work space Installation
n Select service task System Recovery
n Select Restore Image on the ICS component
n Under Select Image for Restore, enable the checkbox of the desired image
n Ensure that the checkbox Restore D Partition is enabled
n Click the Go button to start the SW installation procedure.
The system will shut down immediately and boot WinPE. WinPE displays the
following full-screen progress bar.
Fig. 1: WinPE progress window
The following dialog will be displayed on top of the progress window prior to
restoring the Acronis image.
This dialog was initially introduced to stop the automatic rollback in case of a failed serv‐
ice pack installation. The same script is used to restore the recovery image. Ignore the
message text.
n Click the No button to continue with the installation. The Acronis installation starts
automatically if there is no user input after 60 seconds.
The Acronis progress is hidden behind the progress window. You may use the
<Alt> + <Tab> combination to check the Acronis installation.
n The system displays the Field Updater automatically during system startup indicating
that the recovery image installation is completed.
Continue with the Field Updater description under ( Continue the installation
within the Field Updater / Page 16).
If the Field Updater does not start automatically, most likely the disks were re-partitioned
and the drive letters were set incorrectly. Follow the procedure:
n Disable kiosk mode.
Open a command prompt with admin rights and execute the following command:
n
2. Set WinPE as the boot device in the boot manager during system startup. Of course,
the software needs to be able to start the boot manager during startup.
!!!!! Important:
New ICS-1a and ICS-1b towers may contain a dual boot BIOS as shown in the figure be‐
low. At these towers, the software automatically boots WinPE in the SAFE mode from
the SD card (UEFI: Genesys ...), which is not yet supported in VA30A.
Therefore, always use F11 to enter the boot menu and then select:
n ICS-1a and ICS-1b: Genesys SD USB3 Reader
If UEFI: Genesys SD USB3 Reader was selected by mistake. You can correct this later on
by selecting type MBR. The pop-up window appears after completion of the recovery in‐
stallation.
n Select the corresponding boot device depending on the ICS tower type and press En‐
ter.
The system boots the WinPE OS on the SD card. A progress window is dis‐
played.
The available sources to restore the software are displayed after some time.
Fig. 6: Select the recovery image of partition C
The dialog shown above is displayed only if recovery images are available. Otherwise,
the clone image is installed automatically.
n Select the desired Recovery image of partition C (C_full.tibx) as shown in the figure
above.
n Click the OK button to start the SW installation procedure.
The Restore Recovery pop-up window ( Fig. 2 Page 12) will be displayed.
n Click the No button to continue with the installation. The Acronis installation starts
automatically if there is no user input after 60 seconds.
Removing the SD card is no longer necessary due to the new Acronis version implemen‐
ted in VA30.
n Once installation of the recovery image is complete, Somaris tries to start up as shown
in the figure below.
Fig. 7: Startup screen after recovery installation
The Field Updater does not automatically start in this workflow. Please start it manually
as described under ( Starting the Field Updater / Page 16).
2.2.2.2 Alternative: Set WinPE as the boot device in the boot manager
If the boot manager is still accessible during startup, use the arrow button on the key‐
board while the boot manager is displayed. This will allow you to set the boot device to
Windows PE Recovery.
The boot manager is displayed for less than 2 seconds, right after the BIOS setup.
Follow the procedure above, starting with the selection of the recovery image for instal‐
lation.
The Field Updater UI is displayed and continues automatically with the soft‐
ware installation
FU Step 1 A Check and copy the ProductInfo file. The content is required by the fol‐
lowing scripts.
FU Step 2 A Disable Error Escalation. Suppresses pop-up messages during installation.
FU Step 3 A/M Obtain user credentials with admin rights. Input is required if the default
admin password for the user syadmin was changed by the clinical user.
FU Step 4 A Create Directories. Creates the required directories and links.
FU Step 5 A Reboot System
FU Step 6 A Waiting for Reboot and next Startup
FU Step 7 A Synchronize ICS/IRS service partitions. Copies the content of the IRS serv‐
ice partition back to the ICS service partition.
FU Step 8 A/M Check and restore DataBase.
Important information: If more then one recovery image of the D partition
is stored on the service partition, the user has to select the desired image.
Press the key combination <Tab> + <Del> + <+> to display the following
menu for selection.
Fig. 10: Select recovery image of Partition D for restore
Note: VA30A stores only one recovery image on the service partition.
Therefore, the script will automatically restore the database.
FU Step 9 A Final installation steps for Service Database and Reference Images. The
script creates the logging_DB and copies the Reference images.
FU Step A Automatic configuration import. If the configuration import fails, import
10 the failed clusters manually (as described under ( Import the latest config‐
uration changes (on demand only). / Page 20)).
FU Step A Reboot System
11
FU Step A Check the consistency of the installed service packs of the restored re‐
12 covery.
If successful, all expected xPacks are installed. If this step fails, complete
the fieldupdater workflow and then follow the section ( Check/Install
Missing Service Packs (on demand only) / Page 18).
FU Step A Enable Error Escalation. Reactivate error escalation handling.
13
FU Step M Check/Setting the system time. See the software installation document
14 for details.
FU Step M Field update is finished! Click "OK" to reboot the computer.

The following pop-up may appear at the end of the Field Updater workflow. Ignore it
and execute step 15 to restart the system.
Perform this step only if the FU Step “Check the consistency of the installed service packs
of the restored recovery” has failed.
n Open the CT Version Info window by selecting the ? at the upper right corner.
n Open Windows Explorer (disable Kiosk mode) and check for existing service pack fold‐
ers under S:\Service\sd_store.
Restore the latest service pack that is displayed under the SD_Store folder but
not listed under CT Version Info.
Fig. 12: Version info Fig. 13: Service pack folder under S:\service\sd_store
The screenshot is an example created with Somaris VA20. The procedure is identical in
VA30.
Service packs are cumulative. So install only the latest service pack.
After completion, check the ICS software version in the CT Version Info dialog to verify
that the update completed successfully. You may also check the log file c:\somaris\log
\install\XPackInstaller<date_time>_installation.log
Scroll down to the very end and check for message “XPackInstaller finished with Exit‐
Code:0 -> Installation successful.”
Perform this step only if the FU Step “Automatic configuration import” has failed.
You may import the latest restore point of all clusters (except “Backup All” and “TuneUp
Data”) or to check the logfile(s) for failed imports.
n Restart the system from the Home menu after all required clusters are imported suc‐
cessfully.
There are two different installation procedures: one applies when the ICS is being re‐
placed, and the other when the software is being reinstalled on the same tower.
1. When the ICS is still working, and the software can be restored via the admin portal:
Use the same procedure as the one for the ICS-1a and ICS-1b towers. Use the
procedure in the section ( Select and install the recovery image from the ad‐
min portal / Page 11).
2. When the ICS is no longer working, or it is being replaced:
First install the clone image, and then restore the recovery image as described
below.
Access to the BIOS is protected by password (contact the RSC if necessary).
ICS tower ICS-1d will only boot via secure boot BIOS (UEFI).
n Select UEFI: Genesys SD USB3 Reader as boot device and then press Enter.
The system boots from the WinPE OS on the SD card. A progress window is dis‐
played.
The program checks the contents of the SD card and the ICS/IRS service partitions for ex‐
isting recovery images. This takes a few minutes.
The available sources from which to restore the software are displayed.
Fig. 17: Sources for Software Installation
The dialog shown above is displayed only if recovery images are found. Otherwise, the
clone image is installed automatically.
It is no longer necessary to remove the SD card. The new Acronis version implemented in
VA30 no longer requires such removal.
n After the finalizing steps have been completed, the Initial Configuration window
( Fig. 18 Page 23) is displayed.
Do not perform the Initial Configuration, but immediately start restoring the re‐
covery image.
Fig. 19: Boot Manager Somaris/X
Alternatively, insert the SD card and press F11 to select UEFI: Genesys SD USB3 Reader.
After a short time, the available sources from which to restore the software are
displayed.

clone image is installed automatically.
n Select the desired Recovery image of partition C (C_full.tibx) as shown in the figure
above.
n Click OK to start the SW installation procedure.
The Restore Recovery pop-up window will be displayed.
Fig. 21: Restore Recovery window
n Click No to continue with the installation. If there is no user input after 60 seconds,
the Acronis installation will start automatically.
n Once installation of the recovery image is complete, Somaris tries to start up as shown
in the figure below.
Fig. 22: Startup screen after recovery installation
The Field Updater opens, and performs the rest of the software installation
process automatically.
n Complete the installation within the Field Updater as described in the section ( Con‐
tinue the installation within the Field Updater / Page 16).
The installation will last approx. 2 hours without the Service Pack (such as VA30A_SP1)
installation.
The software procedure deletes all partitions on the ICS. All patient data are deleted.
The latest installed xPack is required. It can be copied from the IRS during software in‐
stallation.
A new OTP (OneTimePassword) is required if the Somatom go. is connected via IBC (In‐
ternetBasedConnectivity) with the cRSP (commonRemoteSoftwarePlatform).
The password for the IRS remote console and the IRS admin account may be required
during installation. Please contact the RSC/HSC if necessary.
The date and time check/setting is performed at the very end of the software reinstalla‐
tion.
Adjust the time correctly before executing the first scan (e.g. when executing checkup to
prove for correct system operation)
Please be aware that the time is set to GMT + 8h at a new delivered ICS tower.

You may use another user (e.g. alocal) with admin rights.
The built-in admin user “administrator” was changed in VA30 as per a regulatory request.
Instead use the admin accounts “alocal” or “syadmin”. Syadmin has a different default
password. For details, please contact the RSC.
If the customer has changed the default passwords, please be aware that they have to
reconfigure the passwords after software reinstallation. Therefore they need, at mini‐
mum, the syadmin user password. We recommend creating a new syadmin password
that you can give to the customer. The default password (adm$...) should not be com‐
municated to the customer.
If the customer has created new Windows users or user groups, check and reconfigure
them if necessary. For details, see ( Check user and role administration / Page 29).
Do not change the preconfigured windows users like meduser, syadmin, DoseAlertUser,
etc. passwords via the Windows menu - Set Password but follow the description below, if
needed.
Procedure for all preconfigured Windows users delivered within the Clone Image
VA30
n Within the examination UI, select the pull-down menu next to meduser. It is located
on the upper right screen.
n Select Other User
n On the login page, select User Name e.g. meduser
n Select Change Password
The login page outputs a message to login with an admin user account to
change the password
n Enter an admin user account under User Name and Password
The system proposes a new randomly generated password, which can be over‐
written by the user.
If needed, perform the date&time setting before executing the first scan (e.g. Checkup).
If you perform a scan and then change the time backwards, the system will refuse to
scan until the system time is later than the time of the previous scan.
Enable the checkbox for Daylight Savings Time only if used in your country.
Both, the IRS Clone and the Recovery image installation is performed via the admin por‐
tal in Somaris/10 VA30. The IRS installation using the FieldUpdater is a fallback solution
only.
The following procedure is valid for IRS Replacement and for installing the software on
the same hardware.
Use the SD card included in kit p/n 110 61 682. The kit was delivered with the system or
is part of the VA30A update kit.
In Somaris/10 VA30, the admin portal opens an Internet Explorer window to start the Re‐
mote Console, which is very reliable. There is no need for work-arounds as in Somaris/10
VA10 and VA20.

b) Restart the IRS and ensure that the IRS boots on the network in order to boot
WinPE from the SD card.
If the IRS can still boot on c:\partition, press & release (tap) F12 on the virtual
keyboard within the IRS Remote Console (IRC) to force a net boot.
An IRS restart is either triggered via the IRC (windows system restart) or by us‐
ing the reset button on the IRS hardware.
The IRS boots automatically on LAN if the c:\partition is no longer bootable (e.g., new
tower). You may use the key combination <ctrl> + <alt> + <del> to trigger a restart
via the IRC.
Fig. 38: Reboot IRS and ensure that the IRS boots on the (LAN) network
n The software will finalize all IRS relevant work steps automatically. If the function is
interrupted, you may complete the workflow manually. For details, see section
( Manual procedure if the installation aborts within the admin portal / Page 61).
A Fast Contact window or the Power OFF/ON request may appear during the installation
workflow. Please ignore it. You may restart the system after completion to remove the
escalation icon (flash) from the status bar.
n Perform Checkup
The AirCal and DefChannel tables are NOT exported/imported within the import cluster
“CT Workflow: TuneUp Data”. The tables have to be re-created using the Checkup func‐
tion.
4.3 Fallback: Perform the IRS installation within the Field Up‐
dater
n Open a Windows Explorer window and move to folder c:\somaris\deploy\utils
\install\fieldupdater
n Double-click on script H.Infrastructure.CustomerSupport.FieldUpdat
er.exe
n In the pop-up window select IRS_exchange_FieldUpdaterConfig.xml
Fig. 39: Field Updater configuration for IRS exchange
The IRS software installation workflow within the Field Updater starts automat‐
ically.
Follow the Field Updater workflow step-by-step. If a Field Updater step fails,
correct it prior to repeating the function.
Fig. 40: IRS SW Installation workflow
The above screenshot is from VA10A. The content and the naming of the IRS workflow
was slightly changed in VA30.
If the clinical user has changed the syadmin password (Adm$...), use the following cre‐
dentials alternatively:
n
n
User name: alocal
Password: the password starts with M... and contains the last 10 characters of the
service key. If you need assistance, contact the RSC/HSC.
4.3.3 FU Step 3: Prepare ICS for IRS installation and then execute the IRS in‐
stallation
n Press the Execute button and wait for successful completion.
n Restart the IRS to start the IRS installation. For details see step a) or b):
a) For newly installed IRS tower restart the IRS by using the Reset button on the IRS
tower. For details see ( Fig. 41 Page 57)
The IRS will automatically perform the netboot (set in BIOS) to boot WinPE
from the SD card and then start the IRS installation.
b) If the old IRS is still running, force the IRS to perform a netboot to start the IRS in‐
stallation.
- Open the virtual keyboard in the IRS remote console window (select the keyboard
symbol at the bottom)
- Restart the IRS via the windows start menu at the IRS or by using the Reset but‐
ton on the IRS tower.
- Immediately afterwards, press & release (tapping) the F12 button on the virtual
keyboard to enable the netboot in the IRS BIOS.
If successful, the IRS boots WinPE from the SD card prior to starting the IRS in‐
stallation
n Press the Execute button on FU Step 3 as soon as the IRS installation has been star‐
ted.
If the netboot fails, the IRS outputs the message “NTLDR is missing”. In this case repeat
the IRS installation as described below under IRS fallback installation.
This check will fail because the ICS is unable to configure the IRS after installation. There‐
fore click the Execution button at Step 3 immediately after the IRS installation has been
started, because the installation typically finishes before the 35 minutes have expired.
Corrective measure
n In the IRS Remote Console, check whether the IRS software installation is still running.
Wait for completion and use the Repeat button in the Field Updater.
n If the IRS installation is completed but the IRS status is NONCFG, perform a system re‐
start to configure the IRS. The status ICS + GSV indicates successful completion.
Fig. 42: IRS_Status_RemoteConsole
If the IRS hangs or the installation seems to be incomplete, repeat the IRS installation fol‐
lowing the above procedure “IRS fallback installation”.
n Restart the system and repeat this step. You may call up this script from the command
line. Disable the Kiosk mode and open a command prompt with admin rights.
C:\somaris\bin\CT.Infrastructure.CustomerSupport.SyncWi
thIRS.exe -xpack -backup -initialconfig -recovery
n If it fails again, ask for assistance from RSC/HSC.
Procedure
n Execute Checkup from the Settings menu or from the Home menu > System Check
After completion, the system should be ready for scanning and image recon‐
struction.
After completing the last step within the Field Updater, two pop-up windows appear in‐
forming the user that the workflow is completed and a report is created.
Afterwards a system restart is executed.
Service Packs are cumulative. Install only the latest Service Pack.
The customer is able to create a recovery image of the ICS during system shutdown. This
“run-once mechanism” is triggered by a previously installed xPack.
The ideal workflow is that the customer installs the xPack in the morning and initiates
the recovery image at shutdown in the evening.
The above-mentioned customer workflow does not create a IRS recovery image because
the installation of the IRS Clone image during IRS replacement, for example, does not
take significantly longer.
Ensure that the communication to the IRS is working before starting the image creation.
The IRS communication is established if the Position Control shows the correct table po‐
sition as shown in the figure below/pos. 1 (entries must not be dimmed).
If you use the File Explorer command \\192.168.184.2\g$ to check the content of the IRS
service partition, restart the system before creating the recovery image.

n An existing image is automatically selected for deletion [4]. The mouse-over function
allows the user to display the stored comment text.
Somaris/10 VA30 stores only one ICS and one IRS recovery image. An existing image is
always enabled by default for deletion.
n Click the Go button to create the recovery images of partition C and D (pos. 5)
The backup procedure executes all required steps, one after another. The sum‐
mary page is displayed after successful completion
In case of error, the following dialog is displayed. Repeat the procedure once. If
it still fails, check the root cause

always enabled by default for deletion.
The System Monitor popup message “Communication lost to Gantry/IRS” indicates that
the IRS is starting the image creation. After successful completion, the pop-up message
indicates that the connection is reestablished.

In Somaris VA30A, the IRS works reliably within the admin portal. No workaround, like
calling the IRC from Windows desktop, is needed.
Fig. 46: Login to IRS Remote Console with user IRS Fig. 47: Select iKVM/HTML5
You may close the following admin portal window after the IRC connection is establish‐
ed.
If you use the File Explorer command \\192.168.184.2\g$ to check the content of the IRS
service partition, restart the system before executing the above sync command. Other‐
wise the script will fail due to the existing IRS network share. You may use the command
“net use” in a command prompt to check for open network shares to the IRS.
This problem does not appear if you use the IRS Remote Console to check the IRS con‐
tent.

n Log onto Windows with an administrator account. Use the syadmin account or alter‐
natively the Siemens alocal account.
n Open a command shell and execute the following script to stop the Somaris processes
c:\somaris\deploy\utils\install\XPackInstaller\StopSomar
isProcesses.cmd
The script needs a few minutes to complete.
n Execute the following script to start the Initial Configuration
c:\somaris\deploy\utils\install\initialconfig\InitialCon
fig.cmd
n In the menu that is displayed (Fig. 1), change the host name and then click in the out‐
put window (white box above the buttons) to enable the Configure button.

You may change the IP address at the same time. Enter the IP address and the related
network parameters.
The software displays the Fast Contact dialog after system startup.
Reason: With the host name change the Windows Time Server Startup setting is also
changed from manual to automatic. The SEEM component detects this mismatch and
triggers the Fast Contact dialog.
Ignore the error message ... Failed 87:
The parameter is incorrect.
If you use the File Explorer command \\192.168.184.2\g$ to check the content of the IRS
service partition, restart the system before executing the above sync command. Other‐
wise the script will fail due to the existing IRS network share.
