METHOD TO CONVERT NON-TERMINATING DECIMAL TO FORM
𝒒

Mixed recurring decimal: It is a decimal representation in which

there are one or more digits present before the repeating digits after
decimal point.

 Denote mixed recurring decimal as x.

 Count he number of digits after the decimal point which do not have
bar on them. Let it be n.
 Multiply both sides of x by 10𝑛 to get only repeating decimal
numbers on the right side of the decimal point.
 Further use the method of converting pure recurring decimal to the
𝑝
form of and get the value of x.

METHOD TO CONVERT NON-TERMINATING DECIMAL TO FORM

Short-cut Method:
p
Recurring decimal =
q
Where,
 p = (The whole number obtained by writing the digits in their order)
− (the whole number made by the non-recurring digits in order)

 q = [(10)the number of digits after the decimal part ] -

[(10)the number of digits after the decimal point do not occur ]
QUESTION 4
Express each of the following pure recurring decimals in the form
p
by shortcut method.

FINDING RATIONAL NUMBERS BETWEEN TWO
RATIONAL NUMBERS
CASE I: (If denominators are same)
 If denominators are same, check the value of numerators.
 If the numerators differ by a large value, then rational numbers
between two rational numbers can be written in increment of one
for the numerator, without changing the denominator.
 If the values of the numerators differ by small value than the
number of rational numbers to be found, then both numerators and
denominators multiplied by some greater value ( like 10 or 100)
depending on the conditions.

NOTE: Multiplication of numerator and denominator can be done by

any number but we take 10 or 100 so that calculation become little bit
easier.

FINDING RATIONAL NUMBERS BETWEEN TWO
RATIONAL NUMBERS
CASE II: (If denominators are not same)
 If denominators are not same, firstly make denominator same. It
can be done by finding their LCM or multiplying the denominators
of one to both the numerator and denominator of other.
 After denominators become same, check the value of numerators.

NOTE: Multiplication of numerator and denominator can be done by any

number but we take 10 or 100 so that calculation become little bit easier.
