Sample Questions:
You are Aman/Amita. You have been given the following graph that
shows the cases of violence and social unrest. Analyse the graph and write
a paragraph in about 100-120 words.
Cases of Violence and Social unrest
The given line graph represents the number of cases of violence and social unrest
in the country. It gives us a clear picture of the alarming situation. The data depicts
changing situation over period of ten years starting from 2001 till 2010. Here, we see
the slope of the line going upwards which shows that the cases of violence and
social unrest have risen with time which is the opposite of what the ideal situation
should have been. The rise in the number of cases is more or less constant and
increase by 10 each year except in 2002. After 2002, cases have increased rapidly.
After the analysis of the graph, it can be said that the country is facing a social crisis
and such cases tells us that people are not satisfied with what is happening in the
country as a whole and have used violence to show their disappointment. Violence
was a measure used to solve problems in historical times back when people did not
have much space to voice their opinion but it is not the case now. In democracy,
everyone has freedom of speech as their fundamental right and should stick to
words to show dissatisfaction. Violence only takes countries backward and is not a
long term solution for anything and will hamper the growth of the country.
Response to Setbacks
Setbacks often leave us with a feeling of disappointment and may even
lead to acute depression. There are two ways to handle any setback-one
for the better, i.e. healthy and the other for the worse, i.e. unhealthy. When
we take the setback in a healthy way, we learn from it and let go of the
emotions inside. The optimistic approach provides us an ability to feel,
reflect and align. In other words, we observe the pattern of the setback,
especially assess the difficulty of work and possibility of future success by
doing the work. In particular, the person reaches a healing state to
transform anxiety, shunning away bitter life experiences that are the
results of not meeting some particular expectations.
On the contrary, a negative approach to setback gives rise to a feeling of
inadequacy and incompetency and the affected person is unable to
accept the situation. It leads to a vicious cycle of undesirable feelings and
the person becomes a victim to self-criticism and self-doubt as opposed
to a person with a positive response to setbacks. The victim even resorts
to blaming others and sees everything as a danger and threat So, it is
imperative to channelize the thoughts in the right direction and avoid
anger, anxiety and depression. A healthy response to setbacks must be
seen as a learning opportunity, though, it may require some time and
efforts.
2. You are a teacher at a reputed school in
the city. The following bar graph shows
a comparative analysis of students'
performance in different subjects in the
terminal exam. Write an analytical paragraph
on the variation in the performances of
students in about 120 words to be presented
at the Annual teachers meet.
The chart below gives the percentage of social media users by age in India in 2020. Write a
paragraph analysing the given information in 100-120 words.
In 2020, during lockdown, almost everyone was inclined towards social media since it was the only way to get
connected with the dear and near ones. The given chart gives us age-wise details of various purposes people use
the internet for. Teenagers use the internet mostly to play online games whereas others use the internet
predominantly for product research. It is not surprising to see that the teenagers have no interest in product
research when it comes to surfing the internet and only 5% of them surf the internet to search for people. In
general, the internet sees people mostly looking for news and products. Among all age groups people in their 60s
and above use the internet rarely when it comes to downloading content. The most even distribution of people
searching the internet for all the use cases is seen in the age groups of 20s and 30s.
term. There was marginal improvement in the second-term marks in
English and Social science. However, efforts must be made to
ensure that the overall scores improve in the next academic session,
hence, teachers must plan accordingly in order to help students
score higher marks. Students must be given additional practice so
that more students score 100 marks in Maths and Science, This will
help improve the school's performance in the board examination.
An excerpt-based or cue-based analytical paragraph
requires a student to read a short excerpt published
in a newspaper or magazine and write about the
same in his or her own words. It is also required of the
student to provide a proper introduction, surrounding
arguments, and an appropriate conclusion to the
paragraph.
The BDO of the Kanpur region conducted a survey in the government and
private schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas to see the preferred language. Students
of classes X —X" were a part of the survey. The following excerpt was taken from
the analysis report that appeared in o local daily newspaper:
"It is quite clear from the data collected that in government schools English language is
not spoken by them at all. Only a few students are speaking English in government
schools which is below average but Hindi is spoken by maximum of the students. In
private schools English is spoken by maximum number of the students. Only few
students speak Hindi as compared to government schools. In the KVs (Kendriya
Vidyalayas) there are approximately equal speakers of English and Hindi."
Write a paragraph to analyse the given argument. You could think about what
alternative explanations might weaken the given conclusion and include
rationale / evidence that would strengthen / counter the given argument making
comparison wherever necessary in 120 words.
Language Not a Barrier

Language not only enhances our personality but also makes us confident.
The BDO of Kanpur conducted a survey in the government and private
schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas to understand the preferred language of
the students of classes X-XII. The survey also highlighted the need to pay
more attention in developing English-speaking skills in government schools
as most students preferred Hindi to English. Though choice of language is
personal but the world demands a better grasp of English. Students of
Kendriya Vidyalayas showed inclination towards English but here the gap
between the two languages was remarkably less. Whereas, private school
students preferred English to Hindi.
Efforts must be made to ensure that students of government
schools also have the same access to quality education as private
schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas. Efforts must be made to ensure
that all schools give equal importance to both languages to build
confidence in students.
SWOT Analysis

SWOT analysis means to achieve success by utilizing

one’s own strength to minimize the effect of weakness
and turning the threats into opportunities upto some
extent.
GURMEET KAUR IS AN ASPIRING CANDIDATE FOR A PUBLIC-FUNDED ENGINEERING
COLLEGE IN THE SUBURBS. SHE BELONGS TO A NEARBY VILLAGE, HAS MINIMAL
TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPOSURE, HAS THE REQUIRED CUT-OFF PERCENTAGE AND
IS LOOKING FOR A COMPLETE OR PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

WRITE A PARAGRAPH IN ABOUT 100-120 WORDS, ANALYSING HER SWOT NOTES TO

SUPPORT YOUR STAND ON WHETHER SHE SHOULD JOIN/NOT JOIN THE COLLEGE.

(ENGLISH SQP 2022)

In support of decision
The given information illustrates the options Gurmeet would weigh in order to take the
right decision about her admission to a public-funded engineering college. With the
availability of a strong curriculum, quality faculty and vibrant Activity Clubs, she will
be assured of an enriching educational journey. Though the hostel facility is
unavailable, she may take up accommodation in the suburbs or travel daily from her
village. Good opportunities for practice-based research, partnership with professional
companies and international student exchange programs will enhance her professional
and interpersonal skills. Hard work, responsible behaviour and prudent
decision-making could help Gurmeet thrive in the college even though it has a rigid
and conventional culture. The strengths and opportunities work in favour of Gurmeet.
Taking this opportunity will allow her to mend the incorrect public perception of
public-funded colleges and students’ outlook toward technical subjects.
The given information indicates Gurmeet’s dilemma about seeking admission to a
public-funded college.Though equipped with a strong curriculum, engaging
activity clubs and an able faculty, the college lacks diversity and good conduct
among the students, giving rise to concerns about a safe environment for a novice
like Gurmeet. Underutilization of IT services will further affect the progress of
Gurmeet’s educational journey and add to extra costs related to research work. If
she does not qualify for a complete or partial scholarship, the arrangement of her
own accommodation and additional expenses of the student exchange programme
will increase her expenditure, too. Such a college environment may dampen her
endeavouring spirit. The weakness and threats outweigh the strengths, in the case
of Gurmeet. So, it is recommended that Gurmeet does not apply for admission to
the said college.
