NAND NOR Implementation

The document discusses the implementation of NAND and NOR gates within digital electronic circuits, highlighting their importance as universal gates capable of performing any logic function. It covers the characteristics of NMOS and PMOS transistors, the advantages of using NAND and NOR gates over traditional AND and OR gates, and provides examples of multilevel circuits. Additionally, it explains the graphical symbols for these gates and their applications in simplifying Boolean functions.

EE276 – Digital Electronic Circuits

NAND & NOR

Implementation

1
ICs Family
Digital ICs belong to specific circuit technology – digital logic family

Each logic family – its own basic electronic circuits.

Basic circuits are NAND, NOR inverter gates.

Most popular logic families:

CMOS – dominant logic family.

Fan-in, Fan-out, power dissipation, propagation delay and noise margin

– most important distinguishing parameters of logic families.
2
NMOS and PMOS

• NMOS is a transistor that is good at passing

logic 1 from its drain to its source.

• PMOS is a transistor that is good at passing

logic 0 from its source to its drain

CMOS NOR

Use NAND and NOR as opposed to AND and OR in order to reduce the
number of transistors used to implement logic functions.
5
NAND Gate
Universal gate – possible to implement any logic circuit with NAND gate.

Logical operations – AND, OR, Complement – can be implemented with

NAND alone.

NAND and NOR gates easier to fabricate with electronic components.
