Software update with B&R Software Manager Tool

1 Preparation
1.1 Install the new release on the PC
Start the selfextracting file C7x_Sxxx.EXE
C7 _Sxxx.EXE (double click the name of the file). The given
destination directory must not be changed, because the Software Manager is only adding new
releases in the given directory structure.
 Windows 7 and earlier: Use at least B&R Software Manager Version 1.1.7 !
 Windows 10: Use at least B&R Software Manager Version 1.3.6 !
1.2 Save the configuration and the settings
There are PC-Tools
Tools provided to save the configuration and the settings, so the writing down of
them is no longer neccesary.
We recommend, to write down the configuration and the settings of the first machine. see
Merkblatt „C7x_Instruction_replacing_software.doc
C7x_Instruction_replacing_software.doc“.
 See also instruction.

1.3 Connection between the PC and the control panel

Connect the serial interface COM1 or COM2 to the Rieter Panel serial interface RS232 with a
serial data cable (identical to SCU).
If the Ethernet interface of the panel is not used the communication can also be don
done over
ethernet.

Windows 10 PCs: The connection

conn to the serial interface RS232 of the PLC is made with an
USB adapter. If COM1 or COM2 don’t work, please verify the correct COM port in Windows
Settings / Devices / Other devices (the adapter has to be plugged in order to see the COM
port).

2 Software update procedure

2.1 Saving of configuration and settings

 Start the Software Manager Tool.

 C 75, C72 and C70 with Manager Version 1.3.6 and later choose PVI version 3.0.2
PviTransfer_2
 C 80 with Manager Version 1.3.6 and later choose PVI version 4.5.3

 Choose the connection COMx with 57’600 Baud.

 Wait until the Connection Staus is shown “ONLINE:…” in the colour blue.

 Start the menu “BU-A -> C70-> Tools -> SW exchange -> Read data from card
before”.

The process follows this steps :

 Checks the panel against NO coldstart

 Upload the data modul containing the memory map of the stored data.
 Upload the data moduls containing the configuration, the settings, the maintenance
data, the shift data and the maintenance log book.

2.2 Copy the new Software to the CF-Card

The following has to be done in advance :

 Start the Software Manager Tool.
 Have the CF-Card ready in a apropriate card reader.

Now the copying can be started :

 Start the menu “BU-A -> C70 -> Generate CF-Card -> SX.YY.N.

 Choose the disk where your CF-Card is pluged in, in the window called „Select disk“.
Attention : The selected disk is deleted without any further notice !

 First the CF-card will be erased and the entire project is copied to the CF-Card. The
progress of the process can be monitored in the following window:

 After that the copy process of the system modul for activating the verification of the
program modules during boot process is prepared:

 Choose a second time the disk where your CF-Card is pluged in, in the window called
„Select disk“:

2.3 Restore the configuration and the settings.

The following has to be done in advance :

 Start the Software Manager Tool.
 Choose the connection COMx with 57’600 Baud.
 Wait until the Connection Staus is shown “ONLINE:…” in the colour blue.

Now the restore process can be started :

 Start the menu “Tools -> SW exchange -> Write data to card afterwards”.

The process follows this steps :

 Check if the old memory map, the old configuration, settings, maintenance data,
shift data and maintenance log book are present.
 Checks the panel against coldstart.
 Upload the data modul with memory map of the new software.
 Upload the new data moduls containing the configuration, settings, maintenance
data, shift data and maintenance log book.
 Copy the old configuration and settings into the new daten moduls, the so called
migration.
 Download the migriated data moduls to the panel.
 Finish the cold start procedure on the panel and reboot the it.

3 Read data with the Software Manager Tool

There are following possibilities to upload data from the cards control panel to the PC :

The data is read in a binary format and is converted to a so called csv file. The names of the
values are given in the selected language ( german or english) and if possible are the same
like the ones on the panel the are referring to.
Optional there is the possibility to save the read data to subdirectory of
D:\BuR\SWman\Data\C70\ :

If „Yes“ is selected the following dialogbox appears:

Here the name fo the desitination directory can be entered. Only the csv-files are copied.

 If Excel is showing all the data in a single column, try the following :
1. Mark the whole column by clicking the column header.
2. Start the menu "Data -> Text to columns“ which opens the assistent for the converting.
3. Select "seperated“ and then "continue“,
4. Select the semicolon “;“ in the following dialog as seperator and
5. close with "finish”.

3.1 Upload the logbooks

The exception logbook , the event history logbook, the maintenance logbook und the B&R-
system logbook are uploaded and displayed. The following table shows an excample of the
event history logbook.

 The numbres in the first column tEvData don’t have an importance.

3.3 Upload the configuration and settings

The following table shows an excample of the production set values. There are five production
value groups for each coiler type and another 5 for the web card (NONE / CBA / SB / RSB /
C70-WEB) in total 25 groups.

 The numbre in the brackets after tDMG_SET_XXX has the following meaning :
tDMG_SET_XXX [1] .. [5] value group 1 bis 5 for without coiler
tDMG_SET_XXX [6] .. [10] value group 1 bis 5 for coiler CBA
tDMG_SET_XXX [11] .. [15] value group 1 bis 5 for coiler SB
tDMG_SET_XXX [16] .. [20] value group 1 bis 5 for coiler RSB
tDMG_SET_XXX [21] .. [25] value group 1 bis 5 for Web-card.

3.4 Upload the maintenance data

The following table shows an excample of the maintenance data.

 The production counter is updated after 1000 Kg, 1000 lb or with IGS option after 100 Kg.

3.5 Upload the shift data

The following table shows an excample of the shift data. There will be displayed the maximum
numbre of shifts even if there are only used three or four of them. The „nineth“ shift represents
the curently running shift.

 The numbre in the brackets after tDMG_SHF_GEN equals the shift numbre.
 The numbres in the first column tStoppEreignisSchicht don’t have an importance.

and the oldest value is last left.

3.8 Save all csv-files to folder

The menu “Save all to Folder” saves all last uploaded data ( only the csv-files ) in subdirectory
of D:\BuR\SWman\Data\C70\. The use of this menu is, to save „off-linie“ all data recently
uploaded.

Enter the name of the destination subdirectory in the following dialogbox :

Only the csv-files are copied.

4 Trouble shooting
4.1 PVI error codes
The following is only a short extract of error codes which may appear when the PVI function is
used. For further information refer to the PVI documentation (by B&R).

Error code Description

4069 BR-module install error (_Download modules)
4071 Insufficient free target memory (_Download modules)
4808 No connection to RPS available
12040 Connection was terminated
12050 PVI manager not started
13076 Unable to establish communication

4.2 PVI Error # 4069

The module could not be installed in the control panel.
This error code can occur as a sequence error if there was an interruption during loading of
the operating system.

To quit the window, click on the "Schliessen" button. The function was not carried out success-
fully. Rectify the error, afterwards repeat the update.

4.3 PVI Error # 4071

The module cannot be loaded to the target memory indicated, as insufficient memory is avail-
able for it.
In the following example, this error message has occurred as a sequence error because there
was an interruption during loading of the operating system. As a result of this, the operating
system which administers the memory is not present in the correct form, and therefore insuffi-
cient memory is available for the module.

Stop the procedure by pressing the "Stop" and "Abbrechen..." buttons. Then fix the connection
error and start the tool anew.

4.4 PVI error # 4808

The PVI monitor cannot establish a connection to the control system (RPS). Frequently, this is
caused by a deficiency in the connection line (e.g. connector contacts not OK, loose; faulty
cable).
The connectors should be screwed.
This error message can also result from an incorrect position of the node-number switches (to
the side of the control system; e.g. with position '0’ '0’).
For example, the following window may appear when the update is performed:

Stop the procedure by pressing the "Stop" and "Abbrechen..." buttons. Then fix the connection
error and start the tool anew.

4.5 PVI Error # 12040

The connection to the control system was terminated.

Possible causes of termination:

1) The PVI Manager was stopped.
2) The trial period has expired.

4.6 PVI Error # 12050

The error code "12050" can result from the PVI being locked (see 5.2 PVI the security key).
When the PVI is locked, no connection can be established.
Possibly the PVI was stopped.

In addition, the following message can be displayed:

Close the message window by clicking OK.
