FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS DURING CONDUCT OF E-ASSESSMENTS

1. Why am I not to able login to Identify the trainees/learners?

(a) The e-assessment system necessitates a deployed center manager within the Contracted
Professional system (cp2.knec.ac.ke) and must have the most up-to-date password. In case
you cannot recall the password, you reset it by clicking on the "forgot password" button
available on cp2.knec.ac.ke.
(b) In case you don’t not have correct login details or not deployed for the assessment cycle get
the following message when you try to log in.
“You are not a centre manager. Please contact the SCDE for deployment as a centre manager”
(c) Make sure you are properly deployed, and you have the correct username and password. The
username should always be the center manager's mobile number preceded by the country
code 254.
2. Why can’t I see my list of trainees for Identification?
(a) The e-assessment system utilizes the CBATE system (cbate.knec.ac.ke) registration of
trainees for specific learning areas or subjects.
(b) It is essential to ensure that the trainees are appropriately registered for the courses offered
in the e-assessment system.
(c) If there is an individual case for a trainee, ensure that the trainee is registered for the learning
area or subject in question.
3. Why is my trainee getting No Paper available for assessment.
(a) The trainee might not have been registered for learning area/subject. The manager should
login to CBATE portal and add relevant learning areas and save.
(b) The trainee was identified in the wrong category in case there is an adapted paper. Identify
trainee for the correct category and respective adaptations.
(c) The trainees have been identified however the paper has not started.
4. Why is may trainee get there is no paper for undertaking?
See explanation above in 3.
5. Why can’t my trainee (s) able to login to e-assessment system?
(a) The trainee might have entered an incorrect password or username. Please verify if the trainee
has entered the correct login details, making sure there is no space between "TA" and the
other numbers.
(b) The trainee doesn’t exist in the list of Bonafede trainees. Consult KNEC for assistance.
6. Why is my trainee getting “Logged in multiple devices”?
(a) If a trainee logs in on one device and then switches to another device during the assessment,
they should consult KNEC for activation. To avoid issues, ensure that trainees do not change
devices during an active paper session.
7. Why is my countdown continuous?
(a) When there is insufficient internet bandwidth, the countdown occurs four times for 60 seconds
each. However, when there is sufficient internet bandwidth, the countdown happens only once.
(b) To avoid a continuous countdown, ensure that the device is connected to the internet with
adequate bandwidth. Also, ensure that the device is not obstructed by walls and is positioned
reasonably close to the internet access point. If you encounter internet connection issues, you
can troubleshoot by either disconnecting and reconnecting the Wi-Fi connection or resetting
the router. To reset the router, turn it off and on within a span of 5 seconds.
(c) Remember that internet speed can vary throughout the day due to network congestion and
other factors. It's a good idea to perform multiple tests at different times to get a more accurate
picture of your Wi-Fi connection's performance.
8. How can I test my Wi-Fi connection bandwidth?
(a) Choose a speed testing website: There are several websites that allow you to test your internet
speed. Some popular options include Speedtest by Ookla (www.speedtest.net), Fast.com
(fast.com), and Google's speed test (just search "internet speed test" on Google).
(b) Disconnect other devices: For a more accurate measurement, disconnect other devices
connected to your Wi-Fi network. This ensures that the entire bandwidth is available for the
test.
(c) Connect to your Wi-Fi network: Make sure your device is connected to the Wi-Fi network you
want to test.
(d) Close other applications: Close any running applications or background processes on your
device that may use internet bandwidth. This ensures that the speed test results are not
affected by other activities.
(e) Run the speed test: Open your chosen speed testing website in your web browser or use the
speed test application. Click on the "Go" or "Start" button to begin the test.
(f) Wait for the results: The test will measure your download speed (how fast data is received)
and upload speed (how fast data is sent). The results will be displayed on the screen once the
test is complete.
(g) Note the results: Take note of the download and upload speeds in Mbps (megabits per second).
This will indicate the current bandwidth of your Wi-Fi connection.
(h) Compare with your internet plan: Compare the results with the internet plan you are subscribed
to. If the measured speed is significantly lower than what you are paying for, there might be
an issue that needs to be addressed with your internet service provider.
9. How can I increase my internet bandwidth?
Increasing your internet bandwidth usually involves upgrading your internet plan with your internet
service provider (ISP). Here are some steps you can take to increase your internet bandwidth:

(a) Contact your ISP: Get in touch with your internet service provider to inquire about higher
bandwidth plans. They can inform you about the available options and help you choose a plan
that suits your needs.
(b) Consider a fiber optic connection: If fiber optic internet is available in your area, consider
switching to this technology. Fiber optic connections offer faster, and more reliable speeds
compared to traditional DSL or cable connections.
(c) Upgrade your modem/router: An outdated modem or router might not be capable of handling
higher internet speeds. Upgrading to a newer and more advanced modem/router can improve
your connection and allow you to take full advantage of higher bandwidth.
(d) Optimize your Wi-Fi network: Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is properly set up and optimized
for maximum performance. Place the router in a central location, away from obstructions, and
consider using Wi-Fi extenders if you have a large area to cover.
(e) Limit connected devices: If you have multiple devices connected to your Wi-Fi network,
consider reducing the number of connected devices during activities that require high
bandwidth. This can help ensure that more bandwidth is available for specific tasks.
(f) Close unnecessary applications: Make sure to close any applications or devices that are using
the internet unnecessarily. Background processes and automatic updates can consume
bandwidth, so it's best to close them during important activities.
(g) Check for interference: Check if there are any other electronic devices or appliances in your
college that might be causing interference with your Wi-Fi signal. Minimize interference to
improve your internet connection.
(h) Optimize your network settings: Adjust your device's network settings to prioritize internet
speed. Disable any bandwidth-hogging applications or features that you don't need during
critical tasks.
Remember that the maximum bandwidth you can achieve depends on your ISP's infrastructure
and the type of connection available in your area. If you have already upgraded your plan and
optimized your network but are still experiencing slow speeds, consider contacting your ISP to
troubleshoot any potential issues.
10. What is an acceptable bandwidth for my institutions?
The acceptable bandwidth for a training institution depends on various factors, including the
number of trainees, the types of online activities being conducted, and the overall internet usage
requirements. Generally, a higher bandwidth is preferred to ensure a smooth and efficient online
learning experience. However, the specific bandwidth requirement can vary based on the
institution's needs.

(a) For small training institutions or classrooms with a limited number of trainees (up to 10-15
trainees), a minimum internet speed of around 25-50 Mbps (megabits per second) should be
sufficient for basic online tasks, such as web browsing, video conferencing, and accessing
learning resources.
(b) For medium-sized training institutions with more trainees (around 30-50 trainees), a higher
bandwidth of 50-100 Mbps may be needed to handle the increased demand for simultaneous
online activities, such as video streaming, file downloads, and online assessments.
(c) For larger training institutions with hundreds of trainees, such as colleges or universities, the
bandwidth requirements can go up significantly. In such cases, an internet speed of 100 Mbps
or more may be necessary to accommodate the high volume of trainees accessing online
learning platforms, video lectures, collaborative tools, and other resources simultaneously.
(d) It's essential to consider both download and upload speeds when determining the bandwidth
requirements, as upload speed is crucial for tasks like video conferencing, uploading content,
and online collaboration.

Keep in mind that these are general guidelines, and the actual bandwidth requirement for a training
institution should be assessed based on the specific online learning activities and the number of
trainees present. Additionally, as technology evolves and more interactive and data-intensive
learning methods are adopted, the bandwidth requirements for training institutions may increase
in the future. Therefore, it's essential for institutions to regularly assess and upgrade their internet
infrastructure to meet the growing demands of online education.

11. Why are my questions not turning green?

(a) See explanation in 7 and 8 above.
(b) Wait for questions’ ribbons to turn green without disturbing the e-assessment system,
logging out or the device as the system will automatically synchronize to remote servers.
(c) Don’t switch off or logout if the questions have a red ribbon.
12. Why are my trainees not able to see diagrams?
(a) See explanation in 7 and 8 above.
13. What can I do if a trainee is logged out in the middle of assessment?
(a) This situation presents two distinct scenarios: responses that were not synchronized to the
remote server and responses that were synchronized. If the responses were not synchronized,
they cannot be recovered. However, if the responses were synchronized to the remote server,
they will be recovered upon the next login.
(b) To prevent this issue, it is crucial to sensitize trainees about the consequences of logging out
during assessments. Additionally, make sure you verify and adhere to all assessment best
practice parameters, such as restarting devices after the assessment, ensuring that devices
are adequately charged before starting the assessment, and using up-to-date browsers like
Chrome, Mozilla, or Edge. These measures will help to minimize the risk of data loss and ensure
a smoother assessment experience.
14. How do I ascertain that the trainees’ responses were synchronized to remote server?
(a) When responses are not synchronized, a red ribbon will appear below the question number. In
such cases, make sure the device remains connected to the internet until all the questions
ribbons have their indicators turned green. This will ensure that all the responses are properly
saved and there is no risk of losing any data.
(b) Saved responses are indicated by a green ribbon below the question number.
