1 Getting Started
What you got:
Installation media (DVD) for:
○ Compass 6000 Central Vibration Monitor v10 (CVMv10)
including Compass 6000 OPC UA Server
 Installation media (CD) for:
○ Compass 6000 Monitoring Workstation Type 7123 (MWS Type 7123)
○ Compass 6000 Condition Monitoring Module Type 3160 (CMM Type 3160)
 CVMv10 license:
○ Printed license for documentary purpose
○ .lic-file in electronic format for the actual licensing (separately send via e-mail)
The following table will illustrate the installation procedures of each individual software application
comprising the entire Compass 6000 Condition Monitoring base package. Please note that the order
of installation - except MS SQL Server and CVMv10 – is not important and free. In addition to this
please be informed that the individual software parts of Compass 6000 can run on one physical
computer hardware or distributed in several computer which are connected in a network.

CVMv10 installation
Note:
It is a prerequisite to install a Microsoft SQL Server instance
(Standard or Express Edition) before you can install the CVMv10.
In case any of the prerequisites are not fulfilled, the installation will
display a warning showing what prerequisites are missing.
The installation will exit (see BUM0131 for SQL Server Standard
and BUM0132 for SQL Server Express)
1) Install CVMv10 (see BUM0129)
a) Restart system after installation!
2) Login as user bkvservice respectively as user who installed
SQL Server. Run Compass Commander v10 and import the
CVMv10 license (see BUM0138).
Compass 6000 OPC UA Server installation

1) Install CVMv10 (see BUM0129)

a) Restart system after installation!

2) Follow the installation instruction (BUM0129) to start the

Control Panel, configure the Configurator and start the
Service.

MWS Type 7123 installation

1) Install MWS Type 7123 (see BUM0082)

NOTE: Consider/Remember to apply User

2) Run MWS Type 7123 and connect to CVMv10

CMM Type 3160 installation

1) Install CMM Type 3160 (see BUM0082)

2) Run CMM Control Panel and provide/enter
a) CVM IP-Address or host name
b) Database Name
c) CMM Server Name

OPC DA Server Type 7131 (supporting VIBROCONTROL 6000)

Note:
The OPC DA Server Type 7131 is named in the Computer start menu
as “SIMS OPC DA Server”
1) Install OPC DA Server Type 7131(see BUM0082)
2) Configure the OPC Server (Start the Configurator) and run the
OPC Server Service via the OPC Control Panel (see BUM0081).

1.1 Important Notes and Hints for Installation and Configuration

1.1.1 MS SQL Server and CVMv10 installation

Use CVM for “Named instance”

Remember the user you define as SQL Server administrator.

Normally this field is auto-filled with the user who installs SQL
Server.

You can add multiple other users.

This will be the user you have to use when installing CVMv10

Set Maximum Server Memory in SQL Server

(not required in Express Edition)

See BUM0131 for correct settings.

1.1.2 OPC DA Server Type 7131 installation

HINT!
The OPC Server Configurator and the System Tray applications must be started with “Run as
administrator”.

1.1.3 Compass 6000 Monitoring Workstation (MWS) Type 7123 installation

HINT!
To check the communication between MWS and CVMv10 you can use a browser. Connect to http://<IP
of the CVMv10 system>/xplorer
It must return a string like this “TimeStamp: <date><time>”.

2 Software Installation Requirements

2.1 Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard or Express Edition installation1

 .NET3.5 respectively .NET3.5 SP1 must be installed and has to be active

 .NET4 (or higher) must be installed

Note:
.NET 4 will be installed automatically during SQL Server 2014 installation, if missing.

Server 2016 NO YES (4.6.2) .NET 4.6.2 is installed by default in all OS Editions

It also includes the .NET Framework 3.5SP1 as an OS

component that is not installed by default. The .NET
Framework 3.5SP1 can be added or removed via the
Server Manager.

Note:
Pre-requisites for MS SQL Server Express fulfilled but if the user wants to install CVMv10
afterwards, .NET4.5.2 is required. So the user can install .NET4.5.2 at this point in time.

Please also note that an upgrade to the SQL Server Standard Edition of an existing Compass 6000
Condition Monitoring version 10 system running MS SQL Server 2014 Express Edition requires
support from B&K Vibro means it is mandatory that a B&K Vibro Service technician executes this
SQL Server instance upgrade from Express Edition to Standard Edition. B&K Vibro recommendation
is to install (use) the SQL Server 2014 Express Edtion only for temporary test systems.

2.2 Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Standard Edition installation

.NET 4.6.1 (or higher) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable will be installed
automatically during SQL Server 2017 installation, if missing.

2.3 Compass 6000 Central Vibration Monitor version 10 installation (CVMv10)

The table below is for information only as the installer will check pre-requisites and inform the user about
missing components.

3 Computer Hardware Requirements

3.1 MWS Type 7123, CMM Type 3160, OPC DA Server Type 7131 and

All Operating Systems are required as x64 (64bit) versions!

EMB stands for “Microsoft Windows for Embedded Systems”

3.1.2 Processor
 e.g. Intel x86, AMD 64, ... 2 Cores minimum
 CMM Type 3160 Analyzer requires Intel CPU, 4 Cores recommended
 CPU Speed 1,7 GHz minimum for Windows 7/10; 2 GHz or higher recommended
 CPU Speed 2 GHz minimum for Windows Server 2008R2/2012R2/2016

All requirements match the ones listed above except requirements listed in 3.2.1
