INTERIOR DESIGN

The Interior Design program at AUD is modeled on best practices as put forth
by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation and the National Association of
Schools of Art and Design.
CHALLENGING
AND REWARDING
PROFESSION
INVOLVING
CREATIVITY
A Message from the Chair
A professional Interior Designer’s responsibilities extend far beyond creating
the aesthetics of an interior space. With education, training, and in some cases,
examination, a professional Interior Designer performs a variety of tasks and roles, all
the while ensuring that the safety, health and wellbeing of the public is intact.

It is a challenging and rewarding profession involving creativity, collaboration, and

coordination with consultants. It is also a profession where there are many tangents
that one could pursue; it is a solid foundation for many careers within the building
and construction industry.

At AUD, we are educating students to become highly qualified career-oriented

Interior Design graduates able to integrate art, design, technology and business
practice, with the skills and knowledge to produce highly functional and aesthetically
appealing interior environments. In addition, the program enforces ethical values in
regards to the profession and ethnic and cultural diversity,
as well as environmental considerations.

The Interior Design program at AUD is modeled on best practices as put forth by
the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association
of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Course work specific to the BFA degree
includes Foundation courses (studio), Design Core lectures, and Professional
Elective courses. Coursework builds upon itself as students gain an understanding of
all the responsibilities that can fall to an Interior Designer, as well as understanding
current best practices within the profession. There is an internship requirement
for graduation, to ensure that students begin to practice what they have learned
at AUD.

The Interior Design program at AUD is taught by a diverse group of faculty. They
bring with them many years of practical professional experiences, as well as cultural
diversity. Faculty maintain connections with the design industry in Dubai, and students
are the beneficiaries of guest lectures and field trips. Faculty are frequently asked to
present at regional design conferences or to moderate panels; this develops new
connections and networking opportunities that benefit students.

Dubai is an ideal place to study design, as the building and construction growth
here is unprecedented. Students have access to a plethora of design consultancies,
suppliers and manufacturers, and local trade shows and conferences.

So why Interior Design at AUD? Because we offer students a CIDA and NASAD
accredited program, taught by experienced faculty, in a great location.

I was then an eager student who always wanted to learn more. It is true
that ‘you get what you ask for’ and that is what I did! All thanks to the
supportive faculty of AUD, I was able to nurture my learning and develop
my potential. They have been so supportive even after I graduated 6 years
ago. From being tutors to being industry colleagues and mentors when-
ever I need assistance, I do not hesitate to reach out to them.

Knowing that this was always a career that was meant for me, I did not
have the right tools and critical thinking methods as well as the references
to express myself as a creative. My professors at the American University
in Dubai not only fed my creative energy and taught me all that I need to
know to become the designer I always wanted to be, but also gave me the
confidence to understand what kind of creative I am able to be, and what
I can offer to the market as well as the world. The ID program at AUD
truly was enriching, competitive and diverse. Working closely with people
from all over the world, and learning directly from professionals in the
design industry were experiences that truly set the bar very high for me
post-graduation. I am very thankful for the experience I had at the Interior
Design Department, it was a life changing journey.

Studying my BFA in Interior Design at AUD has been a rewarding experi-
ence. As a student growing to become active in the creative field, the dy-
namic and multicultural environment at AUD has been extremely valuable.
Being educated by trained professors providing an insightful program with
great dedication, students are mentored in a mind-opening and interac-
tive way.The involvement and exposure to the Dubai design industry that
AUD puts forward is a big learning school for anyone passionate about b
ecoming a designer while truly grasping the practicalities that come with
the field. I believe one of the strongest key elements AUD offers is a col-
laborative framework with professors and students from so many differ-
ent backgrounds; It goes without saying that such environment gives many
new perspectives of interpreting and solving any design exercise.

Interior design is a journey of exploration and passion. AUD allows you
to immerse yourself in the field by introducing many aspects of inte-
rior design that open a world of new possibilities and fuel your passion
through the experience. While working in the professional world, I have
realized that you have to have the quality to not just think out of the
box but act out of it, and the professors encourage you with that. They
challenge you to achieve more and surpass your limits. My experience
at AUD made me love design and enjoy my work through an innovative
lens.

known designers, then creating a piece of furniture according to
a very specific and strict brief, and finally building the winning
