Class 9 Mathematics - Important Formulas

1. Number Systems

- sqrt(a * b) = sqrt(a) * sqrt(b)

- sqrt(a / b) = sqrt(a) / sqrt(b)

- (sqrt(a) + sqrt(b))^2 = a + b + 2 * sqrt(a * b)

2. Polynomials

- (a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

- (a - b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2

- a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b)

- (x + a)(x + b) = x^2 + (a + b)x + ab

3. Coordinate Geometry

- Distance Formula: d = sqrt((x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2)

- Midpoint Formula: M = ((x1 + x2)/2, (y1 + y2)/2)

- Section Formula: P = ((mx2 + nx1)/(m + n), (my2 + ny1)/(m + n))

4. Linear Equations in Two Variables

- General form: ax + by + c = 0

5. Introduction to Euclid's Geometry

- Definitions, axioms, and postulates (no specific formula).

6. Lines and Angles

- Sum of angles on a straight line = 180 degrees

- Sum of angles around a point = 360 degrees

- Vertically opposite angles are equal.

- Complementary angles: A + B = 90 degrees

- Supplementary angles: A + B = 180 degrees

7. Triangles

- Pythagoras Theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2 (in a right-angled triangle)

- Area of Triangle (Heron's Formula): Area = sqrt(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)), where s = (a+b+c)/2

8. Quadrilaterals

- Sum of interior angles of a quadrilateral = 360 degrees

9. Circles

- Circumference: C = 2 * pi * r

- Area: A = pi * r^2

- Length of an arc: Arc length = (theta/360) * 2 * pi * r

- Area of sector: Sector Area = (theta/360) * pi * r^2

10. Heron's Formula

- Same as mentioned in the Triangles section.

11. Surface Areas and Volumes

- Surface Area Formulas:

- Sphere: 4 * pi * r^2

- Hemisphere: 3 * pi * r^2 (curved + base)

- Cylinder: 2 * pi * r * (h + r)

- Cone: pi * r * (l + r), where l = sqrt(r^2 + h^2)

- Volume Formulas:

- Sphere: (4/3) * pi * r^3

- Hemisphere: (2/3) * pi * r^3

- Cylinder: pi * r^2 * h

- Cone: (1/3) * pi * r^2 * h

12. Statistics

- Mean: Mean = Sum(f_i * x_i) / Sum(f_i)

- Median: Median = l + [(N/2 - cf) / f] * h

- Mode: Mode = l + [(f_m - f_1) / (2f_m - f_1 - f_2)] * h
