expose the academy's dark sides and plans rebellion from the hostility of their mistress, Miss
Brixil. They finally managed to rescue themselves and other girls from the evil plans of the
academy’s managers.
There are cold interactions between the main characters in this film, especially between the
management of the clinic (Miss Brixil and Dr. Miro) and the rebellious stars (Sophia and
Vivien). However, there are warm interactions between Rita and the management as she tries to
bully other girls into conforming to the repression to get a good family.
The main issue presented in this film is institutional oppression. The institution oppresses the
adopted girls to satisfy the interests of selfish rich women who are only interested in the girl's
youthful skin. Second, the film presents the limitations of a patriarchal society that imposes
8. Who was the victim(s) of the story? How were they, victims?
The victims in Level 16 are Vivien, Sophia, and Rita. Vivien and Sophia became victims after
discovering the dark side of the academy and exercising their rebellion by leading other girls out
of the academy. Rita became a victim after Sophia stole the key card from the guard, Alex. The
girls are taken in turns for punishment downstairs, and Rita is the first.
Vivien cuts her face in front of Dr. Miro to destroy her youthful appearance since she knows
Miro is only interested in her youthful skin. Sophia injured herself as they tried to get out of the
academy. Rita was found dead after missing, and her skin was cut off.
The psychology used in this movie is that young girls were manipulated to believe and think that
the adoption of conventional feminine virtues is part of the social norms in the outside world.
The girls' minds are also manipulated to think that the head of the institution, Dr. Miro, was
really protecting the girls and hence acted according to his directions.
The theory of social exclusion was used as the storyline portrays the life of girls socially
excluded from society to serve the selfish interests of the rich women. The girls are adopted and
brought up in a prison-like academy whose interest lies in the girl's appearance and not their
precious lives.
12. Talk about some of today’s occupations where this type of psychology may occur?
Occupations like mechanics and engineering still practice this type of psychology where women
are excluded and barred from achieving their dreams. The psychology used in these occupations
is based on social constructs of the patriarchal society about the capabilities and values of
13. Using your own imagination, give a brief overview of what the girls may have felt upon
I believe they must have encountered the biggest shock of their lives. The girls believed the
academy's management was protecting them and preparing them for their future families turned
out opposite. The girls must have been shocked to realize the academy was indeed was preparing
them for the evil buyers of their youthful skin and ultimately their death.
14. What other facets of behavior currently happening (in society) that this movie alluded to?
Negative social experiences are another facet of current societal behavior alluded to by the
movie. Individuals' negative experiences promote rebellion and search for liberty and freedom.
For instance, Vivien receives unjust punishment for not obeying the academy's rules, which
helps her gather the courage to rebel and seek freedom. Second, social constructs are current
societal behavior alluded to by the movie. Women and girls are expected to behave according to
certain social constructs laid by the patriarchal societies upholding virtues such as patience,
15. Do you understand why I chose this movie? Why or why not?
Yes, I understand. The movie was chosen because it provides a sufficient reflection of modern
society and how marginalized people such as women and girls are hindered from achieving their
dreams. It reflects a society with unfair social constructs that tends to favor patriarchal society
16. What do you think was the purpose (or point) of this movie assignment?
I think the primary purpose of this movie assignment is to help us delve deeper and understand
the forces behind an individual's action in society, such as Vestalis Academy. The assignment is
to help enjoy the movie and evaluate the motive behind an individual's behavior.
