MARKING SCHEME

Section A:

1. A) 8x−28x - 28x−2

Simplification: 3x+5x−2= 8x−2

2. A) 14

Calculation: 12÷3+4×2=4+8=14

3. B) x=4x = 4x=4
Solution: 4x−3=94x - 3 = 94x−3=9, 4x=124x = 124x=12, x=4x = 4x=4.

4. Conversion: 0.75=75/100=3/4

5. A) 30 cm²
Area: 1/2×10×6=30

Section B:

6. Factorize x2−9
Solution: x2−9=(x−3)(x+3)

7. Find the cost price of the shirt:

Profit = 25%, Selling Price = Ksh 1,500.
Cost Price=Selling Price/(1+Profit Percentage)=1,500/1.25=1,200

8. 17/12 OR 1 1/12

9. Solve 3(x+2)=123(x + 2) = 123(x+2)=12:

3x+6=123x + 6 = 123x+6=12, 3x=63x = 63x=6, x=2x = 2x=2.
10. Calculate the perimeter of the rectangle:
Perimeter=2(L+W)=2(12+8)=40CM
Section C:

11. Calculate the mean and range of the scores:

Marks: 68, 75, 82, 90, 65.

a) Mean: 76.
b) Range: 25.

12. Area of the trapezium:

60 cm².
13. Calculate average speed and time:
a) 80 km/h.
b) 5 hours.
14. Sum of interior angles of a polygon:
a) Sum of angles=10.
b) For a regular polygon, One angle=144∘.
