website is “under the key links section below” etc throughout this eguide. What we
mean by this is if we are talking about something and we know of a website that is
helpful we will link it below under whatever we mention. It will be under the key links
section at the back of the book just copy and paste the link into a search bar and the
website will come up or tap on the link. Just wanted to make that clear. Lets begin.

A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

CHAPTER 1
THE BASICS

WHAT IS FIFO?
Fifo stands for fly in fly out essentially this is a job in a regional environment where
the employer will transport you to your location of work and back on your days off.
Employees are provided with accommodation, hospitality and recreation during their
time away. So essentially food, gym, accommodation during the weeks they are
working. Shifts typically are 12 hours long.

FIFO ROSTERS EXPLAINED

The most popular roster cycles are 1/1, 2/1, 4/1, and 8/6, though these may vary
depending on the nature of the work, the project, and the demands of the employer.
Below we will explain them in more detail.

4
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

1/1 (7 days on 7 days off): The 1/1 roster cycle consists of one week spent "on" at the
mining site and one week spent "off" at home. Long daily shifts up to 10 - 12 hours a
day, including weekends that add up to 70–84 hours a week are typical during the
"on" week. The "off" week offers a full seven days of relaxation and personal activities,
free of any job obligations, after the demanding work week. You will be in your own
place of residency for the off week.

2/1: A worker who is on a 2/1 roster cycle works two weeks at the mining site and one
week at home. The worker usually works 10 - 12 hour shifts every day, including
weekends, for a total of 70 - 84 hours per week during the "on" weeks. The worker
can recuperate from the intense "on" phase during the "off" week at home.

4/1: Four weeks of "on" work are followed by one week of "off" work in the 4/1 roster
cycle. This cycle is far more taxing because it requires employees to labour nonstop
for nearly a month before a break. This cycle is usually saved for times when there is
a lot of demand or for certain tasks that require a longer on-site presence. Candidates
who are interested in taking on this roster cycle should be mindful of the possible
drawbacks of having little downtime, as these effects may worsen over time.

8/6: Another variation of Fifo work schedules is the 8/6 roster cycle, in which
employees work eight days at the mining site and then take six days off at home.
During the "on" time, workers usually put in long days up to 10 to 12 hours a day,
including weekends for a total of 80- 96 hours spread over eight days. After this work
time, the 'off' phase offers six full days free of job obligations for relaxation, recovery,
and personal pursuits. The 8/6 cycle provides a good mix between work and rest days,
but people should be aware of the drawbacks, which include a shorter rest period
than other FIFO roster cycles. Personal preferences, lifestyle choices, and family
obligations should all be considered, just like with roster cycles in general.

LOCATION
Before we go any further let’s look at where the mines are located. In total there is
over 350 mines across all of Australia. They are located in western Australia,
Queensland, and new south Wales. Below we will highlight the best areas for fifo
work in Australia. So first off most of the mines are surrounding Perth there is also a
few surrounding Brisbane (opposite side of the country). The mines are a flight out of
Perth/Brisbane or whatever city your mine is near usually around 1-3 hour flight from
Perth airport.

5
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

WEST AUSTRALIA

The core of Australian mining and an important player in the global mining sector is
Western Australia (WA). It is home to some of the biggest mines in the nation as well
as an enormous quantity of high grade materials. More than 126,000+ people are
employed here in this sector. West Australia (wa) is Australia largest state it is also
home to most of the mining projects. Perth is a central hub for people working out in
the mines they will typically fly back here for your rest week.

REGISTERED EMPLOYERS
Make sure your potential employer is registered to hire working holidaymakers (more
on this later) when you apply for a job in Australia. This will have a significant impact
on your Australian working holiday taxes. Employers who have registered will be
required to charge working holidaymakers 15% of their revenue up to $45,000.

On income up to $45,000, non-registered employers must withhold tax at the higher

non-resident rate of 32.5%. Therefore, it is in your best interest to ensure that you only
work for companies that have granted permission to employ employed vacationers.

Employers can recruit working vacationers at any time, which is particularly helpful if
they require a worker or employee for a brief period of time.

GENERAL LICENSES TO WORK IN THE MINS (TICKETS)

WHITE CARDS

You have probably heard of white cards when researching fifo in Australia essentially
this is similar to a safe pass here in Ireland a white card in Australia is a “general
construction card” which is required for people who want to carry out construction
work. Keep in mind some websites sell cheap introductory white cards however to
actually work over there you need a full white card. You need a White Card in order
to work on a construction site, even if you are just temporarily visiting Australia on a
working holiday visa.

6
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

PEOPLE WHO NEED A WHITE CARD INCLUDE

Construction labourers
Tradespeople
Site managers
Supervisors
Surveyors
People who access operational construction zones unaccompanied or
unsupervised
Workers who routinely enter operational construction zones

You're probably asking yourself How to get a white card from abroad can I obtain one
online ? The answer is yes although more challenging it can be done.

Nowadays, a White Card that is accepted in all states and territories can be obtained
online in a number of states. This implies that you can do the White Card Course at
your own pace and from home. It is fully accredited, easy to use, affordable compared
to in-person training, and convenient.

The course will take around 5 hr 30 mins to complete so you will need a day off to do
it.

You can find the website in the key links section at the back of the book under “white
card Australia”. please do your own research as you may find it cheaper however this
is the one I’ve researched.

A Lot of people also go over to Australia and do the face 2 face classes however some
people want to have everything planned before they go or as much as possible.

MANUAL C CLASS DRIVER’S LICENSE :

The majority of sites will demand that you have a valid Australian manual C class
driver's licence; some positions may also call for a Heavy Rigid (HR) licence. You may
drive in Western Australia for up to three months if you are an Australian citizen or
permanent resident and you have a current, valid foreign driver's licence. You have to
apply to have your foreign driver's licence converted to a WA driver's licence within
these three months.

7
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

Even if your foreign driver's licence is up to date and legitimate, you are not allowed
to drive after this three-month period. The website is in the key links section at the
back of the book under “driver’s license Australia” . It is the official government of
western Australia department of transport (if you’re in a different state they have the
same set up) this gives you a step by step guide on how to transfer your licence.

MEDICAL SCREENING:

In order to make sure they can handle the physical and psychological demands of the
job, FIFO workers are usually obliged to go through medical evaluations. Drug and
alcohol tests, fitness assessments, hearing tests, and general health examinations are
a few examples of these evaluations (your company will organise all of this for you).
We will touch more on this at a later stage.

Improve your chances of getting into mining with these tickets on your resume.

CONFINED SPACES

Ensures that you know how to work safely in these restricted environments where
risks may include dangerous atmospheres or limited access. Great for your resume to
help stand out.

WORKING AT HEIGHT

Ensures that you understand the necessary safety measures to prevent falls, including
the proper use of harnesses and protective equipment to help stand out from the
crowd.

GAS TESTING

Teaches you the skills needed to test and assess gas levels, ensuring a safe working
environment by minimizing risks associated with hazardous exposures. Also will help
you stand out as long as it’s in some way related to your job.

8
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

CHAPTER 2
VISAS

*Note: New Zealand citizens do not need a whv (work holiday visa) to work in
Australia.

A work holiday visa is sufficient for working in fifo over in Australia. You can't be in
Australia when you apply for your visa, so if you go over on a three-month tourist visa
you're not able to change it to a working holiday visa without leaving the country. A
typical work holiday visa lasts up to 12 months and you can renew them once they
are over. Depending on what country your from you can see what visa agreement
your country has with Australia. If you’re from Ireland for example you will need a 417
visa with this you can stay for up to 12 months and work however it cost around 635
aud to obtain. In order to be eligible for a work holiday visa you will need Identity
documents like your passport and financial proof that you have the money to stay in
Australia typically AUD $5,000 or €3000 are required for the Working Holiday visa
application just proof you have this amount.

9
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

In addition to meeting specific character and health standards, you can be required to
present a police certificate. All paperwork needs to be in English, and any photos or
scans of the paperwork need to be crisp and colourful.

You will also typically need to be between the age of 18 and 35 (you can still apply if
you’re in the final year of age eligibility). Australia is constantly seeking experienced
tradespeople who meet the requirements for general skilled migration in order to
become permanent residents. The Department of Home Affairs has set aside a sizable
number of spots for skilled migration for numerous skilled trade occupations due to
the continuous shortages in Australia, particularly for trade professionals. Heavy
vehicle mechanics, fitters and turners, carpenters, bricklayers, chefs and pastry cooks,
and Painting crafts workers are among the professions that Australia is seeking
candidates for. We will also be touching on this below. Remember visas and foreign
policy are always changing so its best to double check online first obviously.

417 VISA
If you hold a valid passport from Ireland, England or the United Kingdom, Netherlands,
Denmark and many more countries you are eligible for a 417 work holiday visa. The
process of applying for WHV 417 is simple. Go online, register, and complete the
ImmiAccount form. We have this linked at the key links section at the back of the book
under “immiAccount”. Then fill out the details. This allows you to manage your visa
application. Those holding a 417 visa are eligible to apply for a second year long
working holiday visa if they complete three months of specified work in regional
Australia. Specified work includes farm work, fruit picking, mining, bushfire recovery,
construction in rural areas and more at the moment of writing this.

WHAT THIS VISA (417) LETS YOU DO:

Stay in Australia for up to 12 month’s work in Australia, generally for up to six months
with each employer studying for up to four months leave and re-enter Australia any
number of times while the visa is valid.

10
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

CAN I APPLY FOR A 2ND WORK HOLIDAY VISA?

The good news is that if you complete three months of "specified work" in regional
Australia while on your first visa, you can apply for a second working holiday visa.
Among the specified jobs are construction projects in rural areas, mining, fruit picking,
farming, recovering from wildfires, and more. Fifo actually counts as your 88 days
regional work !

The second most common visa is a subclass 462 visa. If you hold a valid passport
from the USA, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Austria and many more countries you are
eligible for this visa. Essentially it’s the same as the 417 visa, just different country
requirements.

There are also many other visas in Australia like a general skilled migration visa. To
see more on visas have a look at the key links section under “visas” for the official
website. We will also elaborate more below.

SKILLED AUSTRALIAN VISA

There are multiple methods to apply for a skilled migrant visa. The one you choose
will rely on your credentials and work history. Before submitting an application, you
might have to submit an expression of interest, complete a point test, and wait for an
invitation from the state or territory. While searching for visas for permanent
residency, there are multiple options. You can submit your expression of interest on
the official Australian government website through the key links section below under
“expression of interest”.

You can apply whether you're in Australia or abroad. You will be granted a bridging
visa while your application for a skilled visa from Australia is being reviewed.

This is known as a 482 visa. If you match the following conditions and have an
Australian employer who is willing to sponsor you, you may be able to apply for the
TSS (temporary skills shortage) Visa. TSS Visa applicants must be qualified or have
sufficient experience in an occupation listed on the relevant skilled occupation list. A
Standard Business Sponsor or a company that has applied for a Standard Business
Sponsorship must nominate you. A nomination application must also be submitted by
your employer. Too few people on the skilled occupation list check the key links under
“skilled occupation list”.

11
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

Candidates must have worked in the nominated position or another relevant role for
at least two years. Before applying, candidates must have acquired this expertise
during the preceding five years. Part time work will be looked at. Before submitting an
application for a TSS visa, a skill evaluation can be necessary, depending on the
specified occupation and the applicant's place of origin. To finish the examination,
some evaluating bodies demand more than two years of expertise.

For more information on a skilled Australia visa check out the key links page under
“skilled visa”.

12
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

CHAPTER 3
WHAT WORKING FIFO IS
ACTUALLY LIKE

Circumstances at work can be really harsh, particularly in the mines of Western

Australia. In the centre of the desert, temperatures can range from 40°C to 55°C
depending on the season, and there is no shade (most of the time). It's made much
more difficult by the fact that you have to carry 10 to 15 kg of gear and wear protective
gear like gaiters, long sleeves, and leather hiking shoes to avoid getting bitten by
snakes and spiders.

However, the pay makes up for the difficult working conditions, and it's regarded as
extremely comfortable. Depending on where you work, you can be paid anywhere
from $300 to $800+ per day. For those who are willing to work in the mining industry,
it is undoubtedly a rewarding option.

In terms of days its typically 12 hour days and most commonly rosters will be 2/1 2
weeks on 1 week off. For more roster schedules we talked about this above already.
Of course mine sites also do have excellent facilities including gyms, swimming pools,
bars and an all you can eat buffet which you can avail of. Keep in mind every mine
site in Australia will differ slightly.

13
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

CHAPTER 4
HOW TO APPLY/GET
INTO ROLES

Getting into the mines may be the hardest part in all of this you can use apps like seek
(linked in key links section) and Facebook is also useful for getting in with different
groups. When looking to apply for mines you may find it easier to get into newly
established mines or mines that are currently getting built as they will be looking for
a large number of new staff. The best place to find new job offers is on websites like
Wolf recruitment (linked below) and Seek (linked below) are probably the best. They
have an array of job opportunities and many different types. Keep in mind when
applying for a specific job in the mines make sure you have your CV catered to this job
and the correct tickets highlighted in your cv towards this job. For instance if you are
looking to be a dump truck operator make sure you have your heavy rigid hr licence
highlighted in your cv with your experience listed.

Below we will highlight some entry level mining jobs which you can get into with
having 0 experience in the mining industry. Even with years of experience as a
tradesperson, machine operator, etc, you are considered entry-level or new to the
business world if you have never worked in the mining industry. Jobs you can get with
0 experience include

14
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

Entry level positions include. Nipper, Apprenticeships & Traineeships, Drillers Offsider,
Sample Preparation Assistant, Trade Assistant, Labourer, Sentry, Floorhand, Cleaner/
Housekeeper/ Utility Worker, Dewatering Crew, Security, Chef/ Cook, Gym Instructor,
Laundry, Attendant, Hospitality All Rounder, Grounds Person, Bus Driver. To see more
details on how to get an entry level job with no experience check out the key links
section under “mining job with no experience”. Just look these roles up on job websites
and many will come up.

In the key links section below we will link some other recruitment companies that not
as many people know about to increase your chances of getting hired for your desired
role in the key links section under “under the radar recruitment agencies”. Remember
Turnover is high in fifo jobs due to the high amount of hours worked so there is always
positions going especially if you have experience in the skilled

SHUTDOWNS
Mining production pauses for maintenance and repairs during shutdowns, which
generates opportunities for temporary and specialised positions. Since shutdown
roles are easier to access than standard rosters, a lot of individuals start with them. A
smart move is to begin working in construction or hospitality in the city while waiting
for a mining job. Mining gigs might take some time to come by, but city work not only
brings in money but also valuable experience. So keep applying and make slight
changes to your cv if you aren’t getting responses after a couple of weeks.

DEDICATE YOUR CV/RESUME TO FIFO/MINING AUSTRALIA

Customising your resume for the mining, oil, or gas industries is crucial, regardless of
your level of expertise. In addition to emphasising relevant experience, credentials,
skills, and targeted keywords. These industries are on the lookout for credentials and
transferrable skills that demonstrate your capacity to function in the fifo work place.
Your resume also needs to be optimised to get through the system via applicant
tracking systems (ATS). An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is software used by
employers and recruiters to streamline the hiring process. So your resume must have
the key words and required tickets to meet the systems requirements further
increasing your chances in securing your role.

CHAPTER 5
TRADES MEN/WOMEN

This chapter will be for trades men and women in the trade sector for example
electricians, plumbers, carpenters, mechanics etc. We will have a look into each trade
normally the process is similar in each trade in terms of the steps needed to be
recognized in Australia if you are qualified. We will highlight this down below.

ELECTRICIANS
In Australia, you can't operate as an electrician without a licence. An Offshore
Technical Skills Record (OTSR) will be issued upon receiving a positive skills
assessment. There is many skill assessment companies so you will have to do your
research just make sure they are TRA approved. You can apply for a provisional
electrical licence after you have an OTSR. Essentially To work in Australia, you'll need
to become licensed.

16
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

You will receive an OTSR if you complete a skills assessment through a TRA approved
RTO. Once you receive your OTSR take this to any Australian Electrical State
Regulator and you will receive your electrical provisional registration.

The assessment of electrician skills is a two-step process. You receive your skills
assessment result and Offshore Technical Skills Record after completing the test.

1. Documentary Assessment for Electrician skills assessment Australia

2. Technical Interview & Practical Assessment for Electrician skills assessment
Australia

To research this more we have copied 2 key links with in depth information below
under (otsr electrician) in the key links section.

PLUMBERS
There are three steps in the plumber skills assessment process. Employers in Australia
will require you to have your Australian Plumbing Qualification for registration and
insurance requirements because plumbing is a licenced trade. It's also crucial to be
aware that every Australian state and territory has its own set of rules, and if you
need a licence, you'll need to get a Certificate III (A certificate III is a qualification that
indicates skills and knowledge in a particular field) before requesting one. A practical
exam is required of plumbers for their skill evaluations. Throughout the Practical
Assessment, you will complete a number of tasks that are designed to show off your
abilities as a plumber. These hands-on activities are finished with an accredited
assessor present. To see more on skill assessments for plumbers look under the key
links section under “skill assessment plumbers” for more information. Three key steps
are highlighted below.

1. Documentary Assessment Plumber skills assessment Australia

2. Technical Interview Plumber skills assessment Australia
3. Practical Assessment Plumber skills assessment Australia

17
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

MECHANICS
For a qualified mechanic abroad to be recognized for their skills/qualifications. The
mandatory Motor Mechanic skills evaluation must be finished if you are a Motor
Mechanic moving to Australia. You will receive your Australian Certificate III in Light
Vehicle Mechanical Technology after passing the skills assessment.

Although becoming a motor mechanic does not require a licence, many workplaces
require that you have your Australian Motor Mechanic Qualification in order to be
registered and have insurance.

It's also crucial to be aware that every Australian state and territory has its own set
of rules, and if you need a builders licence, you'll need to get a Certificate III in Motor
Mechanics before you can apply. Steps to get your Australian Motor Mechanic
Qualification.

1. Documentary Assessment for Motor Mechanic skills assessment Australia

2. Technical Interview for Motor Mechanic skills assessment Australia

To see more on the mechanic details for moving to Australia look in the research
section for key links under mechanics.

CARPENTERS
Carpenters who are relocating to Australia must pass Trades Recognition Australia's
Carpentry Skills Assessment (TRA). Much like the steps above for mechanics,
plumbers electricians. To demonstrate that you have had formal training, you must
present your qualification certificates. Additionally, you must have proof of
employment for at least 12 months out of the previous three years. Documents
including pay slips, bank statements, job references, and tax returns can be used as
evidence. You will obtain your Australian Certificate 111 in Carpentry upon passing
the carpentry skills assessment, allowing you to proceed with your skilled visa
application. A key website for this is touched on in the paragraph below.

CHAPTER 6
ONBOARDING

Whatever company you get into the mines with will usually book you into a medical
around 1 week before you fly out it’s just a general health check as well as a fitness
and drink/drug test. Once you pass this screening your company will book your flight
out to which ever mine you’re going to you will stay out there for 2-3 weeks at a time
depending on your swing they then fly you home to your airport (perth/Brisbane etc)
then a week later your back to it.

Your company will sort your accommodation out in the mines (you will need to find
your own in the city when you are off) so you don’t need to worry about
accommodation while in work. You will most likely be staying in basic pre fabs in camp
with a single bed and your own toilet. Most likely you will then get a bus from here
(camp) to the mine then they drop you back in the evening. On the camp you should
have restaurants, pubs, swimming pools, gyms and all of that good stuff obviously
different camps will differ slightly.

20
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

CHAPTER 7
TAXES

In this section we must clarify nothing should be deemed as or seen as financial advice
as we are not financial advisors. We are just highlighting how the tax scenario works
in Australia for those on a work holiday visa. Let’s get into it.

First off let’s talk about the Australian tax file number. Anyone planning to work in
Australia will need a TFN. You will require your Australian TFN to open a bank
account, enrol in a superannuation fund (pension), file a tax return, and other activities.
Additionally, you may guarantee that you pay the appropriate amount of tax on your
income and maintain a spotless record with the Australian Tax Office (ATO) by
obtaining a TFN. A current passport and an Australian address where your TFN can
be mailed are required in order to apply for a TFN. Typically, your TFN will be sent to
you 28 days after your application is finished. To apply for a TFN we have linked it
below under “Apply for a TFN”.

21
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

Let’s talk about the tax rates in Australia for residents.

$0-$18,200 is taxed at 0%
$18,201- $45,000 is taxed at 19%
$45,001- $120,000 is taxed at 32.50%
$120,001-$180,000 is taxed at 37%
$180,001 and over is taxed at 45%

For people over in Australia on a work holiday visa which is most likely you reading
this the following will be your tax rates. If you are employed in Australia, taxes will be
deducted from your salary, and you will need to file an annual tax return. For tax
purposes, all Australians on working vacation visas are regarded as non-residents,
regardless of the type of visa they hold.

$0-45,000 taxed at 15%

$45,000 - $120,000 taxed at 32.5%
$120,000 - $180,000 taxed at 37.5%
$180,000 taxed at 45%

Now we do have a little tip if you actually start work at the tax year end which is at
the 30th of June so whatever amount you earn up to this date after it goes back to $0
earned for the new accounting year so if you time it right and let’s say start work at
the start of march and you earn up to $40,000 before the 30th of June your taxable
income will restart after the tax year end allowing you to make another 45k at the
lower rate instead of going into the higher tax bracket ! now of course I am not an
accountant and this shouldn’t be deemed as financial advice however I do hear of
people using this method in the mines. Check the key links section under “tax tips” for
more details.

SUPERANNUATION
This is your pension plan when working in Australia. Your employer is required to
contribute 10% of the value of your regular time earnings into a super fund on your
behalf. If you are over 18 and make more than $450 per month before taxes. So this
can be a substantial amount. However there is just one catch what if you don’t plan
on being retired in Australia how do you get this money back ?

22
A ROADMAP TO GETTING SET UP IN FIFO

Your payslip will have the details of the amount being paid into your super and the
dates. Super funds are frequently established by businesses on behalf of their staff
members. However, you also have the choice to establish your own fund. When you
open a bank account with any of Australia's major banks, you can do this.

Establishing your own super fund is definitely an excellent idea if you are a working
holidaymaker. This is particularly valid if you want to work many jobs and travel. If
you have multiple accounts, it can be quite difficult and confusing to try to keep track
of your super payments. So it’s best to create your own.

You may keep all of your money in one location and make it simpler for yourself to get
it back when you go with a single super account.

For more details on super funds and the different types check out the key links section
under “superannuation funds”

HOW TO CLAIM BACK YOUR SUPERANNUATION WHEN YOU LEAVE

AUSTRALIA
You can request the return of your superannuation if you are or were on a temporary
visa in Australia (except from subclasses 405 and 410) and you do not wish to retire
there. The refund is known as a “Departing Australia Superannuation Payment”
(Dasp). Normally a Superannuation fund is a huge sum of money. It's also crucial to
remember that even if you collect your superannuation, you will still have full rights to
return to Australia on a different visa. In regards to your DASP tax back if you are on
a working holiday visa 417 or 462 your refund will be taxed at 65% with any other
visa it is 35%. I know it’s not ideal.

CHAPTER 8
KEY STEPS
Key steps to remember when searching for FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) in Australia, there are
several steps and considerations to keep in mind:

Eligibility and Visa: First things first: make sure you have the
right visa to work in Australia. You could need a particular visa,
1 like a Working Holiday or Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa,
depending on your nationality and the kind of work you'll be
doing.

Qualifications and Experience: Numerous FIFO positions have

specialised requirements, especially in sectors like mining,
2 construction, and agriculture. Verify that you possess the
required licences or certifications and that you meet the job
requirements. licenses include.

Research and Apply: Look for companies in your area of interest

that provide FIFO opportunities, then apply for positions that fit
3 you personally. Employers frequently post job openings with
FIFO terms on their websites, on job boards, or through
recruitment firms.

Medical and Fitness: Pre-employment medical exams are

typically required for FIFO positions in order to verify your
4 suitability for the position. Testing for drugs and alcohol as well
as certain medical issues related to the workplace may be part
of this evaluation.

Roster and Rotation: Recognise the rotation schedule and roster

for FIFO work. This usually entails working a predetermined
5 number of days on the job site, followed by a break. When
applying for jobs, take your wants and preferences into account
as rosters can differ greatly.

Accommodation and Logistics: Meals and housing are usually

provided for FIFO personnel while they are on the job. Learn
6 about the housing arrangements and other practical
information, such how to get to and from the workplace.

Safety and Compliance: Put safety first at all times. Learn the
safety measures unique to the location and make sure that all
7
applicable rules and guidelines are followed.

Adjustment and Support: Recognise that FIFO labour can be

emotionally and physically taxing, particularly given how
remote and isolated many workplaces are. Be ready to adapt
to the way of life and, if necessary, seek out help from friends,
8 co-workers, and mental health resources. You can have an
enjoyable and rewarding career in Australia's remote regions
by following these guidelines and taking into account the
