1. Overview of the Smart Group Control (HRGC-5000)

1.1 System Overview

Based on the existing HRGC-1000 hardware, the smart group control system(HRGC-5000) is the
most advanced group control system that applies various features reflecting customer needs and
improved dispatch technology. HRGC-5000 has features that can respond to all specifications of
group control system of Hyundai Elevator Co., Ltd., regardless of MR/MRL type, single/double deck,
single/double side, high-speed/ultra-high-speed model.

The characteristics of the smart group control system are as follows.

1) On-board type group control system
2) LAN is used as a communication interface for the control panel and the DSS 1 input devices
(HTS and HTK).
3) Powered with Linux (Ubuntu 16.04)
4) Diversification of specification settings
A. Provide a program that supports the HHT (using RS232 port)
B. Provide a ‘Spec Editor’ program for setting various features and parameters easily
5) Two types of HRGC-5000 according to the elevator model
A. HRGC-5000C : WB/GT model
(control panel communication : using a CAN to LAN converter)
B. HRGC-5000K : SU model
(control panel communication : using a iGC3 Interface Bd.)

1.2 System components

The smart group control system is composed of the following components(refer to Fig. 1).
1) Group control PC
A. MAIN (main group control PC)
B. AUX2 (auxiliary group control PC)
2) CAN-to-LAN converter board
A. It converts CAN signals received from the control panel or DSS input device into LAN
signals.
B. LAN is set as the standard interface for the smart group control system.

4) UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
A. It provides stable power to devices that require power connection, including group
control PCs.

1.3 Group control PC
In the smart group control system, the same as HRGC-1000, a LAN interface is introduced for the
group control PC to allow communication with other devices (control panel or DSS input device).
Therefore, the inputs required to run the group control PC are the power and LAN cables. (The
wiring of the relevant cables is described in detail in Chapter 2.)

In addition, CLI was applied to the group control PC instead of the existing GUI using a mouse. As
shown in Figure 1, it does not include a separate monitor. In other words, it is impossible to input
the data using a mouse. Due to this, a RS232 port that can connect to the HHT is installed for
system maintenance (refer to Figure 2.). Also, a program update function using a USB memory is
provided. (See Appendix. HHT Operation Manual.)

Figure 2. Connection Ports of MAIN and AUX Group Control PC

As shown in Figure 2, there are two LAN ports in a group control PC. The role of each LAN port is
as follows.
1) MAIN PC
A. LAN port close to the center of PC : It is connected to the 16-port network hub in a
rack of group control system with Ethernet cable. (For Ethernet Communication

2) AUX PC
A. LAN port close to the center of PC : It is connected to the 5-port network hub in a

1.4 CAN-to-LAN Converter

The CAN-to-LAN converter (hereinafter "CAN converter") installed in the HRGC-5000 ASSY is used
for the DSS input device. It may be excluded from the general group control system.

As shown in Figure 1, the number of CAN converters is determined by the number of CAN banks
supported by the system, with two CAN converters being installed per CAN bank (up to four CAN
banks are supported).

Figure 3. CAN-to-LAN Converter Port

In addition, if multiple CAN converters are installed, a DIP switch is configured that can set the
IP address and CAN bank to distinguish the network phase for each CAN converter (refer to
Figure 4 and 5). The values are as follows:

1.5 Network HUB

The network hub installed in a smart(or standard) group control system (hereinafter “network hub")
plays a role of exchanging information between all devices connected to the network. As you can
see in Figure 1, the network hub used in this system is for 16 ports and up to four network hubs
can be mounted.

1.6 UPS
The UPS installed in the smart group control system consists of 8 ports and is divided into the 4
upper ports that provide battery backup and surge protection and the 4 lower ports that are
dedicated to server protection (refer to Figure 6).

2.6 Wiring DSS Input Device
The DSS input devices supported by the HRGC-5000 are classified into HTS and HTK. A CAN
communication line is connected to a CAN-to-LAN converter corresponding to each CAN bank
(from each input device to the group control system). In addition, the converter is connected to the
network hub via a LAN communication line. (Refer to the DSS Installation Wiring Manual for the
detailed wiring of each input device)

2.9 Wiring for the Group Control PC – Supervisory Panel Network

If the supervisory panel collects status(information) of the group control PC or transmits a specific
group control function directly, additional wirings are required to communicate networks between
HRGC-5000 and supervisory panel.

1) A TCP communication line configured through the building's Ethernet communication line.
As shown below, connect the hub port of the machine room‘s TPS and the LAN port of the
MAIN/AUX PC in the group control system using the previously installed TCP communication
line through building’s Ethernet. (ask the building for IP address and port)

Depending on the type of group control PC, the wiring is divided into MAIN and AUX and is connected based on

the sticker attached to the cable.
