EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As technology usage increases, so does the energy demand. In the current difficult circumstances,
saving costs on energy consumption has become crucial. Our product aims to help by regulating the
timing of energy usage for household devices to take advantage of lower tariffs. It can also determine
the power consumption of each device and its impact on electricity bills. The device is compatible
with renewable energy sources and can operate in two modes: direct power delivery or multi-tariff
mode. The user interface and application make it user-friendly. The product will be available in three
months.

INTRODUCTION

Technology has been an integral part of our lives since ancient times, with innovations such as the
telephone and television revolutionizing communication. However, with the global economy
expanding and rising costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to save costs on electricity
consumption at home has become crucial. This initiative offers a solution by allowing users to select
the usage hours of their electrical devices via an app. The system provides two options: users can choose
to directly power their devices with renewable energy or select the period when electricity costs are the
lowest. The device measures energy usage from both the main line and renewable energy sources and
provides the user with estimated cost and percentage of renewable energy usage.
SOLUTION

The main purpose of this project is to increase the efficiency of electricity usage for both home
and workshop appliances. The system uses a multi-tariff electricity distribution algorithm to
control the usage of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels or wind turbines. If enough
renewable energy is produced, it will be used to power the appliances. If not, the appliances will
be programmed to work during periods when electricity prices are lower. In cases where
appliances are not needed, the system checks for renewable energy production and will sell any
excess energy produced to energy distributors. The system calculates energy usage from both the
main supply and renewable energy sources and provides estimates for the energy usage of each
appliance through a phone app, which can be used to control the system. This product can also be
adapted for use with machines working w3-phase has power with small changes to the relay set
part.

SUB-SYSTEMS
The main system can be described as three main sub-systems as follows:

 MCU-based control system with analog/digital sensor processing.

 Telecommunication via Bluetooth and user interface system.
 Main power distribution and converter system.

MCU-Based Control System:

Microcontroller-based control systems use microcontrollers to perform control tasks. The

microcontroller receives input from sensors, processes it, and sends output to actuators. These
systems are used in automation, robotics, and other control systems.

The MCU will use signals from voltage and current sensors to decide whether to use renewable
energy or city electricity, considering multi-tariffs. The MCU's code will toggle pins assigned to it
between 5V low or high values, which will activate relays to supply electricity to homes

Telecommunication System:

Bluetooth technology is a wireless communication system that uses radio frequency

signals to transmit and receive data. It operates in the 2.45 GHz range and is widely used
in a variety of electronic devices, including phones and computers.

"MIT Mobile app inventor is used for Android app development due to its user-friendly
design and block-based coding, simplifying the development process. The app displays our
logo and name, and users can connect to the Bluetooth module by selecting the address
"00:18:E4:35:19:6E HC-06". The connection status label indicates if the device and phone
are connected. The "Turn On and Turn Off" buttons allow remote control of the device,
and "Watt" provides sensor information through the app.

Power Systems:

The power distribution system in this project uses relays controlled by a 5V DC signal from the
microcontroller to connect power lines and loads. Each relay has a MOSFET attached to its coil pin
to provide enough current to activate the relay. The relays can be set as normally open or normally
closed, and there are 10 relays for 3 power outputs and 2 inputs. A 220-230AC/5VDC rectifier is
used to supply power to the microcontroller and relay coils. For simulation purposes, a 5V DC supply
is used.

Figure 2: Power distribution Circuit

As can be seen from the circuit diagram drawn in the Proteus simulation environment, there are
a set of relays that are controlled by microcontroller signal outputs. At the left top, signal inputs
of the power circuit are shown. Simulations of subsystems are conducted on different platforms
because of inconsistencies. To simulate the signal received from the microcontroller, a constant
5V DC supply, and 4 switches are used. To simulate a home appliance, a 60W regular lamp is
used.

CONCLUSION

As a result, the increased energy demand caused by advancing technology and the rising
population has an economic impact on bills. People are increasingly aware of the need of
checking their bills, particularly at home.

METE created this product in response to these issues, with the goal of controlling costs,
converting household expenditure into efficiency, and preventing excessive power usage. At
the same time, it intends to be a nature and environment-friendly initiative using renewable
energy technologies that people may choose from.

Furthermore, we have incorporated a three-dimensional model of our product into our report,
not only enhancing its visual appeal but also making it easier for viewers to retain information.
Additionally, we have updated the cost analysis section of our report, which includes a revised
calculation of the product's total cost.
