Patterns in Addition of Numbers
Numbers
See the pattern in addition of consecutive numbers starting with 1
1 + 2 =3 =(2 x 3) ÷ 2
1 + 2 + 3 = (3 x 4) ÷ 2
1+2+3+4=(4x5)÷2
1+2+3+4+5=(5x6)÷2
∴ the sum of consecutive numbers starting from 1 =
( last number x next number ) ÷ 2
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = …………….
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 + 10 + 11 + 12 = …………….
Patterns in Addition of Numbers
See the pattern in addition of consecutive odd numbers starting with 1
1+3=4=(2x2)
1+3+5=9=(3x3)
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 16 = ( 4 x 4 )
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 = 25 = ( 5 x 5 )
∴ the sum of consecutive odd numbers starting from 1 =
( number of terms X number of terms )
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 11 + 13 = …………….
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 11 + 13 + 15 + 17 + 19 = …………….
Patterns in Difference of Numbers
(2x2)–(1x1)=3=2+1
(3x3)–(2x2)=5=3+2
(4x4)–(3x3)=7=4+3
