Basic Architectural Design I
Competency and Course Objectives
Introduction to Basic Architectural Designs: It gives students
✓ Ability to think three dimensionally, compose small research on Architectural issues,
communicate through drawings, engage imagination, think creatively, read spaces.
✓ The skills on Architectural notation (writing)
✓ The skills of small-scale model making as a tool to study spatial qualities.
Course Contents Introduction
➢ Abstraction
➢ Basic of Form & shape, Transformation
➢ Scale and proportion
➢ Composition: Type of Composition, Ordering principles, spatial organization Study on
spaces, programs, technology in Architectural space production.
• Techniques of creating space.
• Reading Spatial qualities,
• Architectural notation programs (analysis of activities),
• Understanding the impact of technology
❖ 12 units of exercises (on 3 categories of 4 exercises each)
o Space (day dream space, space in between and spatial assemble (urban assemble &
melt down).
– On understanding qualities, creation process of spaces
o Program (program notation, multidimensional zoning, a motion machine and layered
plan).
– On analysis & process of program
o Technology (structure vs structure, envelops).

✓ Experimenting on Architectural project.
✓ Ability to analyze activities & translate them in to Architectural space.
✓ Ability to analyses simple buildings in to their formal, functional & contextual aspects.
✓ Ability to gather information, define problems & negotiate about basic urban issues in
relation to the basic of Architectural space form.
