of the new lesson the frequency and wavelength ranges of each of the forms of
electromagnetic waves. Enter your data in the activity sheet provided and
answer the guided questions. Points will be rewarded to the group that can
perfect the activity.
Materials: Activity Sheet and Pen

Guided Question:
1) Describe the relationship between the following properties of the wave:
a. Wavelength and frequency - Inversely proportional (Nacita)
b. Frequency and energy - Directly proportional (Tutor)
c. Wavelength and energy - Inversely proportional (Jorolan)
2) The Sun is a yellow star. It can warm our skin and give us light so we can see.
However, the Sun can also burn us. How do we explain these daily phenomena
in terms of EM spectrum and wavelength?
 UV rays are harmful to the skin because it has a higher energy level
than visible light. (Lorenzana)
3) Compare the frequency and energy carried by UV waves to that of visible light
 UV rays have a higher frequency and energy than visible light.
(Siga)
5. Discussing new Now class, I will show you a video clip about electromagnetic spectrum, I want you to
concepts and take down notes and practice your listening skills because after this I will ask questions
practicing new skills regarding to the video.

Now let’s check what you’ve understand in the video. Raise your right hand if you
have an answer.
1. What are the waves in the Electromagnetic Spectrum?
 Possible Answer: radio waves, infrared radiation, visible light,
ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays. (Pelaez)
2. What type of EM waves has the longest wavelength and lowest energy
frequency?
 Possible Answer: The waves in the electromagnetic spectrum that have
the longest wavelengths and lowest frequency are called radio waves.
(Bevo)
Our main topic is about Electromagnetic Spectrum.

What are the important concepts to remember:

 Always remember that the largest amplitude = least powerful wave and the
smallest amplitude = most powerful wave.
 From the radio waves to visible light are called non-ionizing and from
ultraviolet to gamma ray are called ionizing waves.
 When we talk about ionizing waves, these are the waves that is having high
frequency and dangerous to our cells when absorbed.
Also, when we talk about electromagnetic spectrum it is the entire frequency range of
electromagnetic waves. So, what are the different types of electromagnetic waves?
6. Discussing new Activity 3: Drag and Drop!
concepts and
practicing new skills Instructions: Students will be group into 6. Label the different types of waves in the
#2 Electromagnetic spectrum by dragging the names below then answer the
guide questions. They will be given 5 minutes to do the task, and after that
post in on the board. Select two representatives to justify the answer.

Possible Answers:
1) RADIOWAVE
2) MICROWAVE
3) INFRARED
4) VISIBLE LIGHT
5) ULTRAVIOLET
6) X-RAY
7) GAMMA RAY

Guide Questions:
1) Are all wavelengths and frequencies the same?
 Possible Answer: The waves are classified by their frequency or
wavelength, going from high to low frequency (short to long
wavelength). For a wave with a high frequency, it has more energy -
like gamma ray or x-ray. If it has low frequency, it has less energy like
a radio wave. (Esttillore)

2) Are there different types of waves in the spectrum?

 Possible Answer: The different types of waves are defined by the
amount of energy found in the photons. Radio waves have photons with
low energies, microwave photons have a little more energy than radio
waves, infrared photons have still more, then visible, ultraviolet, X-
rays, and, the most energetic of all, gamma-rays. (Yuro)
3) Are they in a specific order? How is that order determined?
 Possible Answer: No, from longest to shortest wavelengths, the
spectrum is usually divided into the following sections: radio,
microwave, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, x-ray, and gamma-ray
radiation. (Dela Cruz)
4) Which electromagnetic wave has the longest wavelength? Which
electromagnetic wave has the shortest?
 Possible Answer: So, we have: radio waves, which have the longest
wavelengths; microwaves; infrared; visible light; ultraviolet; x-rays;
and finally, gamma rays, which have the shortest wavelengths. (Rico)
7. Developing mastery PROPERTIES AND USES OF ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM
(Leads to Formative
Assessment) We are going to find out where we can use electromagnetic waves.

First are Radio Waves

Second is Microwaves
Third is Infrared Radiation

Fourth is Visible Light

Fifth is Ultra Violet

Sixth is X-ray

And lastly, Gamma Rays

8. Finding practical Activity 4: Chekahi Ko!

applications of
concepts and skills Instructions: In the same group, choose one component of electromagnetic spectrum and
in daily living explain it how does it affect our daily lives. They will be given 5 minutes
to do the task, and after that post in on the board. Select one representative
to justify the answer.

In quantifying your presentation, rubrics will be used. Below is rubric for the activity.

9. Making Okay now let’s summarize what you’ve learned. Again, raise your right hand if your
generalizations and wish to answer a question.
abstractions about 1) What are the 7 types of electromagnetic waves?
the lesson  Possible Answer: The seven types of electromagnetic waves are radio
waves, microwaves, infrared light, visible light, ultraviolet light, X-
rays, and gamma rays. (Libanon)
2) Does long exposure to electromagnetic waves affect you?
 Possible Answer: Exposure to low frequency fields that are strong
enough can lead to dizziness, seeing light flashes and feeling tingling
or pain through stimulation of nerves. Exposure to radiofrequency
fields that are strong enough can lead to heating of body tissue, and
result in damage to tissues and organs. (Victorio)
3) How can we use electromagnetic waves in our daily lives?
 Possible Answer: Electromagnetic waves have a vast range of practical
everyday applications that includes such diverse uses as
communication by cell phone and radio broadcasting, Wi-Fi, cooking,
vision, medical imaging, and treating cancer. (Bastonero)
