Pre Calc Reviewer

This document serves as a pre-calculus reviewer covering key concepts such as angles, the unit circle, circular functions, and trigonometric identities. It explains reference angles, coterminal angles, and provides formulas for arc length, central angle, and velocity. Additionally, it includes methods for graphing circular functions and calculating areas of circular sectors, along with a reminder to supplement learning with online lectures.

LESSON 1-6 (Angles, Unit Circle, Circular

Function, Trigonometric Identities) @lukexrd

ANGLES REFERENCE ANGLE

The reference angle for any angle
An angle in a rectangular
in standard position is the positive
coordinate system is said to be in
acute angle between the terminal
standard position if its vertex is
side of the angle and the x-axis.
at the origin and the initial side is
along the positive x-axis.

QUADRANTAL ANGLE
A quadrantal Q1 - The reference angle is the angle itself.
angle is an angle in Q2/Q3 - Subtract the angle from 180
degrees.
standard position
Q4 - Subtract the angle from 360 degrees.
with terminal side
Negative angle - Add 360 degrees to make
on the x-axis or y- it positive angle, then follow the rules for
axis. the corresponding quadrant.

DEGREES TO RADIANS
COTERMINAL ANGLE
Two angles in standard position
are coterminal if their sides
coincide.

RADIANS TO DEGREES
ARC LENGTH, CENTRAL
ANGLE, RADIUS OF A CIRCLE
UNIT CIRCLE
Arc length - is the measure of
the distance along the curved
line making up the arc.
Central angle - is the angle
subtended at the center of a
circle by two given points on the
circle.
Radius is the distance from the
center of a circle to any point on
the circle.

FORMULAS: TERMS:
s=θr s - arc length
θ - central angle
θ=s/r
r - radius
r=s/θ
CIRCULAR FUNCTIONS
VELOCITY
LINEAR VELOCITY ( V )
v=s/t
ANGULAR VELOCITY ( W)
ω=θ/t
EXAMPLE PROBLEM:
A boy rotates a stone in a 3-ft-long sling at
a rate of 15 revolutions every 10 seconds.
Find the angular and linear velocity of the
stone. Solution:
In 10 seconds, the angle θ changes by
15(2π)=30π rad. The angular velocity of the
stone is

The distance travelled by the stone in 10

seconds is
To find the value of X, use the
pythagorean theorem.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
GRAPHING OF CIRCULAR RECIPROCAL IDENTITY
FUNCTIONS
Sketch the graph of a given
circular function
Determine the period: p=2π/b
Divide the intervals into 4. QUOTIENT IDENTITY

AREA OF A CIRCULAR
PYTHAGOREAN IDENTITY
SECTOR
A sector of a circle is the part of
the interior of the circle cut by a
central angle whose area is
given by the formula:
