functional protection module for E1
link breaks over a thin line multi-
hop network having alternate E1
link in the backup media. It can be
used with DI Mux of any make and
gives protection even against
multiple link breaks when used with

Switch Settings and Connector Details
In the actual connector module, P1TX refers to Transmit (output) port of P1 and
P1RX refers to Receive (input) port of P1. In figure 1 and figure 4, only P1
instead of P1TX and P1RX has been shown to avoid complicacy in the drawing.
Similarly P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7 and P8 shown actually consist of transmit and
receive ports viz. P2TX, P2RX, P3TX, P3RX etc. It is very important to
remember that, in general, the odd numbered ports i.e. P1, P3, P5 and P7 are for
east side and the even numbered ports i.e. P2, P4, P6 and P8 are for west side.

Two 2-Pin
Pin potential free contacts EF (East Fail) and WF (West Fail) are provided
on the connector module for integration with NMS for indication of link breaks.

adjacent stations should be of alternate types.

Alarms and Indications

Port P1 and Port P2 in the connector module are two primary 2Mbps link between
two stations. It should be mentioned that Port P1 corresponds to East side and
Port P2 corresponds to West side. Two LED’s for alarm indications “East
“ Fail”
& “West Fail”” are there on the front facia. The different alarms and fault
conditions are given below:

Alarm Fault Condition

East Fail - blinking Only Tx port of East Side fails
East Fail - steady Only Rx port or both Tx & Rx ports of East side fail
West Fail - blinking Only Tx port of West Side fails
West Fail - steady Only Rx port or both Tx & Rx ports of West side fail
