Objectives:

Procedure:
Following procedure is adopted while performing experiment:
1. Measure the length of beam with the help of measuring scale.
2. Apply load at the center of the beam.
3. Note dial gauge reading at the end of beam (∆𝐵 ) after applying load after removing support B.
4. Take three readings from dial gauge against applied load and take average of these readings.
5. Now remove the first load and apply unit load on beam after removing the roller support.
6. Note readings from dial gauge at the end of beam after applying unit load.
7. Take three readings from dial gauge against unit load and take average of three readings.
8. Use compatibility equation for the beam and calculate reaction at point B (By).

10. Compare theoretical and experimental values by calculating percentage difference.

Following procedure is adopted while performing experiment:
1. Measure the length of beam with the help of measuring scale.
2. Apply UDL on the beam which is 0.011 N/mm.
3. Note reading from dial gauge at the middle of the beam after applying UDL.
4. Take three readings from dial gauge against UDL and take average of these readings.
5. Now remove the UDL and apply unit load on beam at point B.
6. Note reading from dial gauge after applying unit load at point B.
7. Take three readings from dial gauge against unit load and take average of these readings.
8. Use compatibility equation for the beam and calculate reaction at point B.

Objectives:
To determine vertical reactions By and Cy on roller
supports by using method of consistent deformation.
Apparatus:
1. Load and Hangers

3. Measuring Scale

Procedure:
Following procedure is adopted while performing experiment:
1. Measure the length and cross section of the beam with the help of measuring scale.
2. Apply two hangers on beam at the distance of L/4 from fixed and roller supports.
3. Place two dial gauges at point B and C set dial gauge readings to zero.
4. Apply UDL on the beam and note readings of deflection from both dial gauges. They will be ΔB
and ΔC.
5. Now remove the loads and apply unit loads on beam at point B and C.
6. Note both dial gauge readings.
7. Use compatibility equations to calculate reactions.
ΔB + By (fBB) + Cy (fBC) = 0
ΔC + By (fCB) + Cy (fCC) = 0
8. Use method of consistent deformation to calculate theoretical values of reactions By and Cy.
9. Compare theoretical and experimental values and calculate percentage difference.

Procedure:
Following procedure is adopted in lab to perform this experiment:
1. Take a square frame and measure its dimensions using measuring scale.
2. Attach the dial gauge at point D, slightly above the roller support and set it to zero.
3. Apply load at a distance of L/3 from the fixed support as shown in figure.
4. Note the value of deflection from the dial gauge in millimeters.
5. Now remove the previous load and apply redundant load of 1N horizontally on the frame near
roller support using pulley mechanism.
6. Keeping dial gauge at the same location, note the value of deflection from the dial gauge in
millimeter.
7. Now using compatibility equation, calculate the value of horizontal thrust.

4. Note the value of deflection from the dial gauge in millimeters.
5. Keeping dial gauge at the same location, apply load horizontally on the frame near roller support
using pulley mechanism.
6. This applied load will be horizontal thrust.
7. Use method of least work to calculate the theoretical values of horizontal thrust.
8. Compare experimental values of horizontal thrust with theoretical values and find percentage
difference.

square frame under point load by using slope-deflection method.

scale.
2. Attach the dial gauge at point D, slightly above the roller support
and set it to zero.
3. Apply point load (P) of known value at a distance of L/3 from the
fixed support.
4. Note the value of deflection from the dial gauge in millimeter, it
must be equal to zero.
