1. Three coils each of 5 Ω resistance and 6 Ω inductive reactance are connected in closed
delta and supplied from a three phase 440 volt. Calculate the line and phase currents,
power factor of the system and intake power in watts.
Write down the expressions for the current flowing when this voltage is applied across:
[ANS: iL = 97.58 A; iph = 56.33 A; p.f. = 0.64 (lagging); P=47.61 KW]

2. A balanced star-connected load with (6+j8) Ω per phase is connected to a three-phase 440
Volts supply. Find the line current, power factor, active power, reactive power and
apparent power. [ANS: 25.404 A; 0.6 (lagging); 11.616 KW; 15.488 KVAR; 19.360 KVA]

3. Three coils each having a resistance of 10 Ω and inductance of 0.02 H are connected in (i)
star and (ii) delta to a three-phase 50 Hz ac supply, the line voltage being 500 Volts.
Calculate for each case the line current and the total power taken from the supply.
[ANS: (a) Star: 24.46 A; 17.94 KW and
(b) Delta: 73.39 A; 53.83 KW]

4. A choke coil of 10 Ω resistance and 0.1 H inductance is connected in series with a


capacitor of 200 µF capacitance across a supply voltage of 230 volts, 50 Hz ac supply.
Find the following w.r.t. the resonant circuit.

i. Neat and clean circuit diagram indicating all the relevant parameters.

iii. Value of reactance at resonance condition.
iv. Impedance of the coil at resonance condition.
v. Voltage across the coil and voltage across the capacitor.
vi. Half power frequencies f1 and f2.
vii. Q factor of the circuit.

5. Three coils, each having a resistance of 20 Ω and an inductive reactance of 15 Ω are


connected in star to a 400 Volt, 3-phase 50 Hz ac supply. Calculate the line current, power
factor and power supplied. [ANS: 9.24 A; p.f. 0.8 (lagging); 5121 Watt]

6. Three similar coils connected in star, take a total power of 1.5 Kw at a p.f. of 0.2 lagging
from a 3-phase, 400 V, 50 Hz ac supply. Calculate the resistance and inductance of each
coil. [ANS: 4.27 Ω; 0.0665 H]

7. Three similar coils each having a resistance of 5 Ω and an inductance of 0.02 H are
connected in delta to a 440 V, 3-phase 50 Hz ac supply. Calculate the line current and total
power absorbed. [ANS: 94.90 A; 44.98 KW]

8. Three identical coils connected in delt across 400 V, 50 Hz ac supply, take a line current of
17.32 A at a p.f. of 0.8 lagging. Calculate: [ANS: 10 A; 32 Ω; 76.3943 mH; 3200 watt]

9. Derive the relationship of voltage and current in star connected load.
