Homework 06 IntroCtrlSys Fall2012

The homework assignment for the Introduction to Control Systems course requires students to use Matlab to find equivalent transfer functions and state-space equations for given systems. Additionally, students must calculate and plot the step response of the systems G1(s), G2(s), and G3(s), and explain the observed responses. The report is to be submitted as a group, with evaluations based on teamwork and understanding of the solutions.

Homework 06

Course: Introduction to Control Systems

Class: CT09TIEN
Due date: 14/09/2012
Given the transfer functions:
3
G1 ( s ) 
s 1
5
G2 ( s )  2
s  4 s  20
s 1
G4 ( s )  2
s  2s  2

1. Use Matlab to find the equivalent transfer function and state-space equations of the following systems:

G1(s) + G3(s)

G2(s)

G1(s) + G2(s)

G3(s)

2. Calculate the step response of the system G1 ( s ) , G2 ( s ) , G3 ( s ) ,

3. Use Matlab to plot the step response of the systems: G1 ( s ) , G2 ( s ) , G3 ( s ) . Based on the calculation
in question 2, explain the response of the systems (why the response has oscilation or increase to
infinity,...)

Remember to work in group and submit your report on the due date at the beginning of the class (1
report per group). Make sure that all your group members understand the solutions. I will evaluate your
teamwork by asking random students to present your solutions in front of the class.
