AWS WINDOWS EC2 Instance Steps

Step 1: Login into AWS Console, Select the Region in which you want to work

Step 2: Navigate to Services, click on it, Select Compute section in it, Navigate to EC2 in it and click
on it
Step 3: You will re-directed to EC2 Dashboard, you can see launch instance button on the
dashboard, click on it

Step 4: Give a name to your instance (ex: “Windows Instance”)


Step 5: Select AMI (Amazon Machine Image) as Windows OS, choose default OS version if you are
using a free tier account or else go for your desired option

Step 6: Choose Instance Type as default if you are using a free tier account or else go for your
desired option
Step 7: Create a new key pair or choose already existing key pair
• To create a new key pair
o Click on create new key pair
o Give a new to your key pair (ex: “Windows1”)
o Click on create key pair
o The key pair will be downloaded to your local system
Step 8: In Network settings section, choose a security group or create a new security group with
desired permissions such as
• Allow RDP traffic
• Allow http or https, etc
Step 9: Configure Storage, minimum storage for windows EC2 instance is 30gb you cannot go lower
than that

Step 10: Choose no. of instances either 1 or 2 or more, click on launch instance
Step 11: Wait for you instance to be created, wait until your instance is in running stage
Step 12: Now click on “connect” at top of the instances, it will take you to EC2 instance connection
section

Step 13: click on RDP client


• Download RDP file (remote desktop file)
• Now we require password to login into the windows instance we have created, click on get
password
• Upload your .pem file into the “get windows password” prompt, your .pem file details will be
extracted by it
• Click on decrypt password, your password will be regenerated, copy that password, open RDP
file which you have downloaded, it will directly open as administrator you just need to enter
the generated password
• It will ask for permission click on yes, wait for some time until the whole instance loads
Step 14: Your windows instance has been successfully created
Step 15: You can also disconnect to your instance by click on the ‘x’ mark at the top middle section,
this is how you create a Windows EC2 Instance and Access it.
