1. Gather the necessary supplies. Stand in front
of the sink. Do not allow your clothing to
touch the sink during the washing procedure.
2. Remove jewelry, if possible, and secure in a
safe place.
3. Turn on faucet. Regulate the flow of water and
set to room temperature.
4. Wet the hands and wrist area. Keep hands
lower than elbow to allow water to flow
toward fingertips
5. Use about 5 ml or 1 teaspoon liquid soap from
dispenser and lather thoroughly. Cover all
areas of hands with soap product.
6. With firm rubbing and circular motion,
a. Rub the palms together
b. Rub the back of each hand
c. Rub both hands while interlacing the
fingers.
d. Rub the fingers
e. Rub the thumb
f. Rub the tips of fingers
g. Rotational rub the wrist and forearm
7. Continue friction motion for at least 15
seconds each arm.
8. Use orangewood stick to clean under
fingernails.
9. Rinse thoroughly with water flowing toward
fingertips.
10. Pat hands dry with hand towel, beginning with
the fingers and moving upward toward
forearms and discard it immediately. Use
disposable tissue to turn off the faucet.
Discard immediately.
11. Use oil-free lotion on hands if desired.
III. ATTITUDE (30%)
1. Report to the skills laboratory on time.
2. Perform the procedure within the allotted
time.
3. Accept criticism well and shows effort to
improve performance.
4. Answers question politely and tactfully.
5. Observe proper decorum and behaves as a
mature student nurse.
6. Should be well groomed and neat, wears
complete prescribed uniform.
